The Mongol Army didn't count 200,000. The entire population of Mongolia was 800,000. The Army had much fewer warriors. They didn't destry every city. They spared the cities which surrendered peacefully. Genghis Khan strived to establish friendly relations with Khwarism and to set trade with it. But Khwarisn executed the Mongolian envoys. It treated the Mongols as inferior. Invasion of Khwarizm was the last resort.
I mention at the end of the video that Herat was initially spared, but only later destroyed after a rebelling population. The bits you talk about the execution of Mongol envoys, I mention in part 1 to this video about the Siege of Gurganj. The death numbers too are likely exaggerated massively.
There is a strong effort to excuse the Mongols as innocent victims of pressing circumstance. I do not understand this. They promised one thing and then did the opposite at every opportunity. They had no respect for those about to die. Yes, I have heard they saved 8 or 9 "craftsmen" and brought them home to mommy. This "craftsmen" story is always mentioned, while the slaughter of millions, the torture of the rich, and excessive destruction, is mentioned less and less each year. B. Penda the king killer, he probably having Welsh family connections. A wily and cunning commander and leader of men, along with the Welsh king Cadwallon himself a fearsome warrior burning with revenge of his people against the English, they made a deadly combination. Penda's retinue was a strange gathering of various warriors, both Christian and pagan, Welsh, Mercians, mercenaries from Wessex, and probably cavalrymen from Strathclyde seeing an opportunity to reduce Northumbria's sway over them. I do believe the Staffordshire hoard is Penda's plunder from the Northumbrians, possibly from one of their kings who Penda slew.
Before the Winwaed, Penda was abandoned by the Kings of Gwynedd and Deira during the invasion; perhaps it was because Penda refused the peace offer of treasure and peace from Oswiu? Despite Penda'a allies leaving him, Oswiu and the Northumbrians were apparently still outnumbered 3:1; however, it seems that Oswiu simply out-manoeuvred Penda's forces and the strategic choice of the Windwaed put the Mercian forces in a bad position backed against the river. Supposedly, more men drowned that day than were felled by sword.
If you could slow down your speech speed a little, that would be great! You might get more views, as remember that English is some people’s second language, and they can’t watch the videos where they talk fast, but the slower ones, they can, and do.
