I mainly railfan in the San Diego area, although I do go out to various spots throughout Southern California pretty often, so you can see a pretty wide variety of trains from me including Amtrak, Coaster, Metrolink, BNSF, Union Pacific, and a little foreign power mixed in every now and then.
I haven't been able to railfan as much as I was able to back from 2009-2012 due to school and other interests getting in the way, but when I do have time, I'll hopefully be able to get more railfanning time in. There's no way I'm gonna forget about my favorite hobby! :D
In addition to trains, I'm also interested in video games, history (preferably American history), and music, which is probably my biggest interest after trains!
Union pacific, Iowa interstate, Bn, Bnsf, Santa Fe, Conrail, Nrex, Illinois Central/Illinois Central Gulf, Hlmx, Furx, TTI, Csx, Rlox?, Southern Pacific, Railnet. I don't know the one with the split word on its side at 1:08. But that's every railway I spotted
@SD40-2 All I know about the El Cajon train is that it leaves the downtown yard at around 12:15-12:30 right after the last Orange Line trolley comes in. Unfortunately, I don't know which days they run.
The threads in my camera's tripod mount were stripped during my visit to Kansas City. Nothing much I can do about it ATM. And that shaking isn't THAT bad. 🙄
OMG! I always used to hear it near Massachusetts Ave. station but I dont hear it anymore. Ive recently been wondering why, do you know anything abt it?
The trains in these clips were running between SD and TJ on the Blue Line. The Massachusetts Ave station is on the Orange Line, and SDIV's operations there are switching out businesses in La Mesa and El Cajon, which can be infrequent. I'm not very familiar with their Orange Line operations, but if you haven't heard them in a while, then that likely means that their customers probably just have not had anything to switch out.
Great compilation Patrick ! It was great hearing those horns blasting and echoing thru horn alley again; even though it was only for a few days. ..... January 23rd was my Birthday so it was even more enjoyable to watch this video ! - Larry
Great footage of this local and a chase scene as well ! Nice coverage of the Midnight Rider because, until now, I've never heard of this local or it's busy activities. Awesome video I appreciate your efforts Patrick ! Regards From Orange County; - Larry
Thank you for watching Larry! Operating in the dead of night has certainly made the SDIV one of Southern California's more obscure railroads. It's a really interesting operation to witness, provided you're able to sleep in the next morning. LOL
The funny thing is that I totally forgot about a lot of these catches until I started going through them again just a few days ago! Thanks for watching Larry!
great catches and video agin of these Amtrak surfliners and coaster day and night shots nice catch catching that meet with a pecial picnic surfliner unit meeting a coaster as it was pulling in
great catches and video of these amtrak and caster in this town nice catch too catching that meet with a pacific surfliner meeting a coaster as it was polling out
good video agin sorry you couldn't get any horn action when you were in San Diego the town didn't want trains to whistle close to the the station because the town didn't want trains to whstle in this town much because of people who live in this town are badly complaining because they don't like haw trains can disturb them from what ever there doing and they don't like haw the trains can wake them up in San Diego like the polar express I Hurd the horns have returned to san Diego but old people re complaining agin about the horn shows hopefully some day there understand because they have to understand railman's like us are trying to get some horn shows nice catch too as well catching that race with a caster and a picnic surfliner leaving San Diego as well
Well, it was fun while it lasted. LOL! Shame they reinstated the quiet zone, but we all knew it would happen. The echoes of K5LAs in downtown SDG brings back great memories of the 2000s. Thanks for documenting the return of horn alley.
There is still a good horn alley in Portland Oregon that has over a dozen crossings supper close and buildings lined up on both sides and bridges over top. It’s loud enough that you’ll need ear plugs
Wow Patrick, great to see you make a post. Loved the heritage catch and Amtrak, but the horn on 8445 is a force to be reckoned with. But then again, how can you not love seeing an ACe in place? LOL! Hope you're doing well. Bless ya, Bro!
Thanks Travis! Yeah, the railfanning bug bit me again, as well as the urge to upload some the stuff I've stocked up. Haha! I'm doing very well, hope you are too!
Wrong, the NCTD Sprinter up in North county has a freight yard at the end of the track, and since the cars are narrow, there are platforms to get across to them. And when a freight is approaching, the platforms rise and let it pass. It usually passes on Sundays. And yes, the sprinter is classified a trolley even though it has no wires.
There was an accident at this crossing back in 2011 where the Eastbound Southwest Chief crashed into a vehicle that was attempting to beat the train at this crossing. There were four occupants in this vehicle - it was a family from Oklahoma with two kids. Both parents and one of the kids died, while a teenage girl (miraculously) survived, but was airlifted to the nearest trauma center (UMC in Las Vegas) and to this day, she’s paralyzed from the neck down 😭😭
