I do like this album, but a lot of it didn't age well for me. It was so dependent on the open palm-muted note. AILD really found their sound on An Ocean Between Us.
It may be my age that is biasing me here, but I'm listening to the two and trying to figure out what is dragging the modern stuff down. Thought maybe the speed, maybe the incessant blast beats, maybe the guitar parts being rhythmically homogenous, less groove? Seems so at first, but these are dispelled as one continues to listen. So what is it? The dynamic range is pinched. All the instruments have been detuned and the cymbals are barely in the mix. It's like listening to AM radio. It makes the older stuff sound far more dynamic and musical.
I was born in 2005 so i more listened to the newest one, but the oldshool is interesting. i think i should listen to all of this genre, not only the new wave metalcore.
Tough choice for me, love both. I think that first main riff in The Silent Life (with double bass an the brass) would have been the better choice, its just perfect
Divine is definitely a new technical sound, but the new one they just released has more FFDP meets Disturbed vibes to it (fan of both those bands), but not for ATR
Early metalcore has more melodic and groovy elements, metalcore now has more technical riffs and complex beats and time signatures. I'm in my 30's I've been listening to subgenre of metal and I've embraced the changes, I loved it since the Killswitch Engage days till now, the ERRA days. I'd never choose or compare as long as they're metal 🤘🏽
