Inspiring you to create & serve with excellence. Hey I'm Sam! I've been playing guitar for nearly 2 decades and a solid chunk of that time has been spent serving in worship bands. I remember how difficult it was when I first started playing at church, but I also remember how inspiring it was to learn from the incredible musicians around me. Which leads me to this channel! I created this with the goal of ministry. Just like I was (and continue to be) so inspired and moved by the musicians around me, I want to inspire you to create more, and ultimately use your gifting to serve your church to see more people come to know Jesus. This channel will be a resource for song tutorials and lessons, education around the guitar and gear, as well as gear reviews and demos, all centered around the worship context. So feel free to Subscribe and say hey!
Literally have pedal playground up rn playing around with how I can fit two tonex ones on the board 😂 I'm not in too much of a rush bc I like the extra features on the big boys. But most likely will be changing to the Ones down the road
You got good videos man it’s appreciated! Question..what is your opinion on the Boss ME 90? It’s pretty much all the fx you need on one board without all the individual pedals. Do you think that could work in a worship setting?
Thanks so much! 🙏🏻I haven't tried one personally but I'm sure it would work just fine! I'm a big fan of using individual pedals so it's a bit of a personal preference thing. But there's a ton of really solid multi-fx pedals that can get the job done!
I built a “generic” worship board for our church on a budget. Just swap out the boutique pedals for Joyo and Nux, and you can literally do everything you need for under $500. If you need an amp, you can get a used AC15 for $500 all day. Remember…you’re playing 3-4 songs a week, not a four hour cover gig at a bar or festival.
Hey sam, love the new gear and set up! This may have been answered in a different video but if i can ask what church you play for? Would love to hear you play with the team! Also would love to hear some new in ear mixes
Thanks so much man! 🙏🏻 I’d prob go with the Cloud bank, Cloud 1 for more rhythm stuff and Cloud 2 for lead. You can mix and match though if you’re finding Cloud 1 too washy. I’d probably use Bloom 1 in that case for a more dry rhythm tone. You can always make your own tweaks as needed too. Hope that helps!
@@SamWittek I have literally been hunting that tone forever. I’ve tried so many chorus effects, and they come close but this IS the tone! (For me atleast) thanks for the reply on the comment ❤️❤️
@@SamWittek Don’t be sorry. You’re too young to be a part of worship teams that when we played the physical glory of God would appear and our services. People got saved. Don’t be sorry, young man. I feel sorry for you.
lol he’s definitely a big inspiration for me. I’d say we have pretty different boards for the most part though, besides I think just the tone press and pitch fork?
@@SamWittek Sorry that I sounded a bit cynical .. I totally love your videos, especially the use of Chroma console! DH's octave lead lines have definitely become an iconic sound in modern worship songs, especially with Kilt-style OD and the AC30 and Prosonic pair. Whenever I see those combinations, I think of DH's inspiration.
Well part of my approach to using the Chroma Console is FOR the effect, so it's intentional that it'd be more present. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts my friend!
Wow Sam, this is some huge and great upgrades right there. Amazing, your tone still so amazing. Very inspiring my friend, thank you for sharing. You inspire us all. God bless.
I like this because preset and it has more grit as an option. I feel like most od pedals are wayyyy too clean for my taste . I am searching for an od pedal to replace my mxr prime distortion as with all the distortion rolled off its still too much for my M.D. I recently purchased a tube amp too so my tone is changing drastically.
EXACTLY what I needed! I have never seen this before. Thank you tor sharing! First I have seen your channel. I am interested to see more of your content so I subb’d . Thanks again!
Hey! So...does running your board in stereo matter when playing live at church? I have a board run all in mono, but looking at doing the dual Iridium. Sounds amazing when you demo it, but struggling to see how it would make a difference live at a large-ish church.
Yeah good question! It really comes down to your church setup. I asked my sound guys a lot of questions about how they run the guitars and how they have them panned before I decided to go for the stereo setup. They are BIG stereo fans and it sounds a lot wider compared to mono, so for me it's made a pretty huge difference
So I'm new to this big sky..so if I purchase the patches then do you download them? or does it have like all the knobs written down where you manually put them in?
Yep! If you have a MIDI > USB cable then you can connect your strymon to your computer, and then download the presets directly to your pedal. I also include screenshots with all of the knob locations though in case that's more convenient
The location of the mc6 pro on your pedal board is stressing me out. You'll need to step over the entire board to reach the pedal that you will use the most. This is unacceptable! Excellent video though, thank you!
Thanks Clayton! So glad you're enjoying them 🙌🏻 Pretty sure I used Float1 and the Med Tape .8th presets for the lead part on this one. That's been my go-to lately
They are HOT lol. Definitely the most gain on tap compared to the others, I had to dial it back a bit on both captures. They're awesome though, they feel really amp-like
Inspired me to try and dial in some patches for my Tele more. I’ve always struggled for some reason to get my Tele pushed enough for lead tones. Gonna grab your tonex presets you and tone shepard collaborated on they sound great 🤙
Genuine question from curiosity, not antagonistic: Why do most modern worship guitarists seem to always run time based effects, such as delay, in line rather than using an effects loop? When run this way, combined with any sort of drive, it is extremely fatiguing to the ear due to delays and such also having repeats overdriven. Especially when factored with there are typically droning melodies/voicings happening quite often. In a church setting, I just don't see this being conducive to a great experience for the audience. Is it an ease of use scenario or a preference? Thanks, and keep up the great work!
Of course! Great question, and honestly I'm sure you'll probably hear a lot of different opinions from different people. I think it's mainly a preference thing though. For me personally, I actually much prefer the feel and sound of the wet effects going into the front of the amp. I love the way it distorts and breaks up, and it feels a lot more natural to me. From a practical point of view though, I think running wet effects this way helps cut through the mix in a useful way. With so much competing synths and auxiliary sounds added to the mix in contemporary worship, it's a lot easier for you and your wet effects to get overpowered and disappear if they're too clean in a band mix. Just my opinion though!
Would you be able to tell me if the larger volume knob affects the L/R out or just the headphones out? I’d like to run this on my board but don’t want to have to constantly worry what volume I’m giving FOH from this and an amp sim.
Yeah good question! It just goes to the headphones out. It actually creates a pretty cool way for you to route your in ear mix. You can go Aux In with your IEM mix, and then monitor directly out of the headphone out, that way you can use the big knob to control how hot your own guitar is in the mix. pretty cool feature!
