In July 2017 we bought a 44 foot sailboat and traveled over 300 nautical miles in the open Atlantic Ocean to our home in Halifax, Nova Scotia where we now live aboard, cruise and document our adventures. Following in the footsteps of other great sailing channels, join us and our crew as we share our alternative lifestyle living aboard a sailboat full-time and plan our next step to untie the lines for Caribbean waters and beyond! Please help us out with your generous donations as none of this would be possible without RU-vid and the support of viewers like yourself! Please leave us feedback, your likes, and please be sure to subscribe to the channel so you don't miss out on upcoming videos. Thanks guys!
Nice job! Except for the expanding foam, as far as I understand using anything expanding in deck repairs is another big no-no... Also, why add the barrier if you could have injected epoxy further in to prevent the empty holes?
This is my second video on Cuba. I'm from South America but I live in the US. I am blown away by how beautiful Cuba is. Wow. I need to go to Cuba. Thank you for sharing. I Liked and Subscribed just because of this one video.
Well Done! This was on my watch later playlist for about 5 years and I am now just watching lol I was admit about buying a sailboat back then but life got in the way and now I may get one
I hope you have learned the words "conformal coating" for waterproofing the electronics. Raspis are not particularly rugged and i can imagine they'll fail eventually.
I have a much, much better solution and rule of thumb in answer to the question posed in this video: "If you can fly it, float it or fu&k it, rent it." Anything else is a foolish choice.
I am retiring soon and I am looking at buying a Mexican registered boat that I will store in summer. Probably a 30ft cruiser. Is insurance for a Mexican registered boat cheaper? How are the winter storage options in the Caribbean?
Most folks plan to buy a boat, cross oceans, and cruise extensively and indefinitely. Most folks and most boats never will, but instead, will spend their days and nights in marinas with occasional trips up and down the coast. Even dedicated cruisers are really only "at sea" for about 10% of the time. Therefore, buying a "true blue water vessel" is a colossal waste of money and only pandering to unrealistic sailing fantasies. It also will adversley affect comfort at the dock as well as wrangling "the ship" in and out of the slip. Do you really need that big bowsprit spear or huge fuel tanks? What about built-jn ice boxes in the galley instead of a working refrigerator? Wake up, you're dreaming.
The greenish color is a soft corrosion that becomes a protective layer. If you remove it the protection goes away and further corrosion will recreate the layer. I suggest googling "bronze patina" or something like that. If you really want the bronze look, you need to apply some protective layer to prevent the greenish look.
Yeah, you always wonder in these situations, did they run into health issues or worse, did they break up, did they just decide it wasn't worth doing anymore..., anyway I don't plan on doing a sailing channel but looking at getting into sailing
I sail an Ericson 35-3 out of Marina del Rey. I am interested in sailing in the Carribean full time, and was wondering where to go and the most friendly islands to live aboard inexpensively while working remotely on the boat. Great video!
Thanks guys. I am trying to do my research about this as i orepare to hopefully do some crusing after i retire. That gives me about 10 years to get a boat payed off, get .ore experience, and figure out all these logistics! It is daunting but every video helps. Thank you.
Great video, I am playing around with Open CPN on a Pi 4 and notice the Pi is getting pretty warm with an Aluminum case any issues with your waterproof case containing the heat? Pi’s throttle their speed when hot, this will slow it down. Any updates on the size of waterproof enclosure your Pi is in?
Thanks for the info. BUT. We don’t live on a spinning water ball. You loose a lot of credibility when you use your religious belief to back up your arguments. There is no planet. Governments lie. Space is fake.
So when you knew that the owner gave up ownership you consider to board😏 but seeing a boat with mayby hurt people beneath deck you would not take any risks. Nice message to fellow sailors 😡
