no you didn't they are all American and litle else . Where are the British ones
My favorites who best captured Belle in this scene are Susan Egan, Melissa Thomson, Dianne Pilkington, Megan McGinnis, Ashley Brown, Christina DeCicco, and Patricia Paisal.
Do you have the full recording of Melissa Lyons’ Eponine or at least On My Own? You have the best quality of her On My Own here in the internet but you only have bits of it. Thanks
Sorry to say, but personal opinion, at least half of those indicated were not really able to do justice to "Memories" as it was originally presented - they have changed inflection, they have held notes longer or shorter than in the original, their voices simply were not capable of singing such a very demanding song as intended by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Three of the more powerful women who recorded, sang at concerts or on television were not even mentioned - Celine D, Susan Boyle, Barbra Streisand and there were many other females who did perform "Memories" but not on stage, a cruise ship, in the streets of various cities and not on tv shows but made videos or recorded their versions of the original song. Barbra (and that is the correct spelling of her given name), Celine and Susan sang their version of "Memories" as it was intended by Andrew Lloyd Webber to be sung. Those males who performed "Memories" simply were not capable of the dynamic range intended by Webber. The differences many of the females shown made when singing "Memories" made a tremendous difference from what Mr Webber intended and they did not do good justice to Mr Webber's masterpiece.
Monique Wilson is the WEAKEST link among them all. Was surprised I thought she was good knowing she came from Repertory Phil like Lea. No wonder after her stint at West End, she’s nowhere to be found and faded into oblivion.
Madonna ugh. Even that much lower and with the help of an entire studio couldn't sound half as good as any of these other women. Patti and Elaine rule.
Lea Salonga, always. Both she and Isay left an indelible mark in my brain whenever the words "Miss Saigon" are mentioned. But I'm so glad to hear Caselyn Francisco's voice. I knew that she really wanted to be part of the musical and was happy for her when she joined the German production. This is the first time I heard her sing in German. Thank you! :)
Isay for me, hands down. To me, the rest of the actors were so hell bent on belting out the notes that they forgot to project the actual anguish Gigi felt while singing the song.
Thx, Love your videos! They take me back to my theatre days😊 One correction, your second Gigi from the German cast at the 5 minute mark is mislabeled. That's a video of Viven "Bhang" Nokes. Mia was first cast Gigi but that's video of an understudy🙏
Everyone basically had to recreate everything Patti Lupone did in the original production. Shows become frozen and everyone following has to follow the character the originator created Patti created the Fantine we all know. It's very hard to build a character from scratch. Very easy to add your flourishes to something that has already been built for you. Patti deserves credit from all.
