I write in response to the Open Letter to Party Leaders published by 408 climate scientists on June 10th. "We call on you to pledge to an ambitious programme of climate policies that accelerate action, in the UK and across the world, both to cut greenhouse gas emissions and to increase resilience to those impacts of climate change that cannot now be avoided. Without such a programme, the UK will be shirking its international responsibilities and will be losing the opportunity to promote prosperity and peace in the UK and around the globe." Dear Scientists, Not disputing the science of climate change in general, I nonetheless presume to suggest you're wrong about how this issue might best be approached. I cite Nasa/Sandia Labs 1982, "Status of the Magma Energy Project" report which estimates a minimum of 50,000 quads of Magma Energy just from the US alone. (Current global energy demand is 600 quads.) Converted to endless base load electricity and clean burning hydrogen fuel; Magma Energy allows for a prosperous AND sustainable future. From a political theory perspective, Nasa/Sandia Labs 1982 Magma Energy research should have refuted Meadows and Meadows 1974 'Limits to Growth' thesis; and yet an assumption of Limits to Growth continues to inform 'the ambitious programme of climate policies' you insist are required. Might I suggest the measures you demand are the very opposite of ambitious.
