Watch our equipment reviews and DIY as we take on homesteading initiatives on a beautiful 23 acres.

For those who want to read more...

We semi retired from the city and return to my wife's farm where she grew up. The property is a beautiful 23 acres that overlooks a harbour here in East Coast Canada. The property has great sentimental value but has not been farm for 40 years. We invite you watch as we transform this property.

The work could not be done without my kubota tractor and it's attachments. Attachments include rotor tiller, logging winch, logging trailer, backhoe attachment. In 2019 we started clearing the overgrown farm. Since then we built a green house, put in big gardens, and have plans for developments such as a cabin by the shore. We invite you to follow our journey.

Yep it could of been. I was noticing my tire chains would rub and I started looking. The tire didn’t seem to be aligned right. I was having a bit of trouble with the nuts backing off so I looked closely and could tell see the damage enough that the disk had a hair line crack. I knew it was no longer safe but didn’t realize just how bad it was. It’s fixed now but even with the new disk the bolts seem to be still backing off. There are 2 stud types and 4 bolt type. The studs seem to be damaged from the wheel working loose so nuts not tight. They will have to be replaced then hopefully I will be able to tighten it once and for all.

The orange felling bar is not a peeve it is a cant hook and is meant for smaller logs than you are using it on that is why you are having problems with it. A peeve has a point on the end like your wooden handled one. They were originally used when they floated logs to the mills. It was used as a pike poll and a cant while on the log floats. You could only hold one tool and that worked as two. I hope this helps a little bit.
@LostCaper
@LostCaper Год назад
It is a felling bar but the point is the hook is not designed to roll very much at all. The hook could of been bigger and a better angle to allow it to more effective. Nice concept but needs improvement.

Hey there Ray. Those log steps look super great. That stairway will really add to the natural look of things. Your daughter did a great job! When she's done, I've got a smaller staiway she can build, especially now that she's a certified stairway-to-Heaven technician (smile). Glad you made a water run-off to save your stairway. Thanks for the fun build. Hope you and the family have a great fall/winter this year. There's nothing like the snow storms you guys get up there. Any snow we get doesn't last long. If it snows through the night down here, we might be lucky to see an inch or less accumulated. Nothing like when I was a kid growing up in Pennsylvania where 6 to 8 inches was common then sometimes 10 to 13 inches would pile up. Man, I still remember all the shoveling snow and slush by hand with a heavy-azz coal shovel. My dad would send us out there and we'd keep shoveling until he was tired watching us work. Now that I think of it, I've never-ever seen my dad lift a shovel to remove snow. I guess that's why he had four boys. We were the free-for-hire labor force (mostly myself). My other brothers always seemed to be somewhere else when it came to those back-breaking chores. 😲 Alright my friend, stay well, enjoy the cool season, and have a great Christmas. Yes the property is beautiful with our own beach. It is my wife’s homestead. It was part of an original land grant so was in the family a long time. It was farmed until about 30 years ago. It kind of grew over so I am starting gardens, making roads, cutting trees. With the world like it is today you never know if you need to become self sufficient or not. My wife and I had careers in NewBrunswick but returned to our stomping grounds a few years ago. Little by little I am working on the property.

@LostCaper
@LostCaper 2 года назад
It would be well worth your time. It makes your backhoe that much better again. May I suggest that make sure you build it so it opens wide enough so it's out of the way when you are just digging. Mine is adjustable and I am glad that it is because when you dig and you curl the bucket, it pack the dirt and the dirt won't come outt. Also if the thumb is closed it stops the dirt from even going in the bucket and is very much a hindrance in certain situations. So my suggestion is make sure you can adjust it clear and free from the bucket. Mine does and I am glad it does because I heard of people making them before and didn't really like it because of that. Take care.

Hay Dave. Great to hear from you again. My god I don't know what I would do without my backhoe. Well I just could not do some of the task at all without seriously hurting my tractor like pulling stumps and moving big rocks. I even use my backhoe for logging especially when I am on my own property. I make a road right to the wood, cut the wood by picking the tree up with the hoe then blocking it when the tree is in the air. I then pile the brush with the hoe. I then drive the truck right to the wood and pick up the wood. When I am done not only do I have wood but I have a nice road and the brush is piled. My neighbours gets me doing a few jobs. I make a few bucks and they save a ton of money. Thanks for showing me alot of great tricks on how to use it and helping me pick the right bucket. I love my backhoe more all the time. I even found an easier way to take the 3 pt hitch off which saves me time installing it. I have years of projects plan including my cabin and post and beam green house. They were $1000 taxes in delivery in. I have about 400 hours on these chains and alot of pavement driving. They are about 1/2 wore. I am not getting paid to say this but I would surely buy another set. Take note that a link will break mostly when running up the payment. When a link breaks a chain length reaches my fenders and back lights. It beat the fenders badly and the back lights right off. That is not really the chains fault. In hine sight I would of welded metal guards of got snow tires for the tractor and ran up the road without chains and if I got to an icey steep driveway I would lift the front tires off the ground with the bucket and put on front chains while I did that driveway. Thanks for watching.
