I've never experienced hostility or felt uncomfortable from shopping in the bazaar. I think it's best to avoid shops where salespeople are being aggressive/pushy, but I wouldn't say it's dangerous.

We have heard mixed responses to the new design. It actually was designed to reflect what the tower looked like in the past. "In the statement, the ministry mentioned that the elements added to the tower at a later stage, which did not match its original character, have been removed, restoring it to its authentic appearance." You can read more about the renovations here: kizkulesi.gov.tr/en/restoration-scope & www.masya.com/articles/news/maidens-tower-reopening
Nice overview. A common mistake outside Turkey is to serve rakı on the rocks. Yasaktır. Rakı plus ice shocks the anethole (anise oil), creating little crystals that harm both the flavor and the texture. Rakı > Water > Ice. Efe Gold gets its pale amber color from barrel aging. Efe is not the only brand that offers barrel-aged rakı. Göbek means "belly" or middle cut in the distillation process; the head and tail cuts in distillation have off flavors, and chemicals that cause hangovers. Unfortunately, Beylerbeyi and Efe Gold are difficult to find in the USA, so I have to settle for Yeni Rakı. I hope you brought some back with you on your return. Razzouk Lebanese Arak is somewhat easier to find in the USA. It's very similar to Turkish rakı (no added sugar, unlike ouzo), but at 100 proof it has a more intense flavor. My ranking would be about the same as Can's, with Razzouk #3. I haven't tasted Saki Rakı.
It's an easy and beautiful walk from the Üsküdar ferry terminal to Kız Kulesi. Is it not possible to purchase tickets outside the Üsküdar ferry terminal?
Currently it doesn't seem so. We saw there was a notice posted on the official site: muze.gen.tr/muze-detay/kizkulesi You can see the relevant text here: Official Announcements: The Maiden's Tower Restoration Project, Technical Report. Boat Transportation Will Be Provided Every Half Hour Between 09.30 And 17.00 From Karaköy Pier Due To Coastal Landscaping Works At Üsküdar-Salacak.

This is by far the easiest and best way to learn Turkish phrases for tourists. Thank you so much I wish I can learn more from you as I'm coming to Türkiye for 1 month end Sept
Glad it was helpful! We have some other pages here with common phrases: turkeytravelplanner.com/details/LanguageGuide/100words_lessons/100Words_01.html
It is a private transfer. A private transfer is booked in advance. You will meet your driver who will be holding a sign with your name and waiting for you to arrive. Another benefit of taking a private transfer is that you have already paid a fixed price.

That man, not only THE BEST salesman but also an amazing father!! He’s always been an amazing storyteller, i remember admiring his knowledge (& him in general) as a little girl. I wanted to be as cool as him. Also, he LOVES what he does, always giving us little anecdotes and stories about his passion. To this day, i am his #1 Fan! Love him to the moon and back ❤
Reading the Canadian Government page is very alarming. Is has really spooked me as I have a flight booked in May. Now I’m scared for something to happen to me :( I really appreciate your content though, it has made me a feel a little better!
I am Turkish who lived in Canada for six years and I can’t tell you that Canada was always like this towards Turkiye. Turkiye is very safe place. I would say even safer than most part of Europe and US. Bad people exist everywhere so of course, you shouldn’t be trusting everyone. however, it’s very well protected country I assure you.
Hello, yes, they have said that for many years. I think similar to California and waiting for "the big one". My advice would be to stay in a hotel or newer apartment that was built within the last ~20 years. The newer buildings have updated building codes for greater safety against earthquakes.
Yes, the travel advisories tend to be more conservative but I think you shouldn't worry about the airport. Both IST and SAW are some of the busiest airports in the world and many passengers pass through the airports each day without incident.
@@emilyann1122 Hey, yes I've flown through both airports many times and have never had any problems. They are both very safe, clean, and some of my favorite airports to fly through, especially IST. There's really nothing to worry about. As a woman I have never encountered anything that made me feel unsafe while traveling through these airports, and have traveled throughout a lot of Turkey, as well as have lived here for the past 5 years.
