How can it mess up your board if it's built to do this with the firmware update? Seems like you would do more damage by panicking and forcing it to stop doing this.
For the calibration, there was no mention from Presonus that a re-calibration would be conducted. Though, a re-calibration of the faders can be conducted at any time manually.
Bob, I have a Furman PL-Plus C to be used with my Allen & Heath Qu-24 in the FOH. Is it the right unit to protect my gear against unstable voltage during concert with a lot of amps, lights, electric machines, etc?
For an unstable voltage environment, you should consider adding a voltage regulator. Then, connect your Furman PL-Plus to the voltage regulator. The PL-Plus should provide the RFI/EMI protection while the regulator provides consistent power.
There can be a wide variety of regulators available, depending on where you are located. Just make sure the regulator you decide on can provide an adequate amount of power for whatever gear you plan on connecting to it (do NOT connect amplifiers to regulators). One of our regulators (120V/15amp - USA power) can maintain our large Presonus console, the FOH rack, a charging station, a laptop computer, with power to spare.
@@stageleftaudio Thanks for your reply. Basically, I want to protect my console against peak voltage. I live in Colombia and we have a lot of small clubs or bar with poor electric infrastucture. Our main problem is with old houses used as live venues without a new electric system. Thanks, again. You are my teacher 👍
24:29 a little bit of an correction. Some UPS's have built in rectifiers for voltage and Hz whilst some dont. So usualy if your gonna be using and UPS anyways, id always recommend getting an UPS which has a rectifier / voltage regulator built in instead of having two separate pieces of equipment in the rack. A lot of Eaton and APC UPS's has this
You are absolutely correct. My references to the gear was only for the gear I use (what was shown in the video). I did not mention anything in the video, but made reference to it around the 19:44 time mark (in a text slide). There is some great UPS gear available... though, it is more on the expensive side. Thanks for your comment.
For the lights: (from B&H Photo) Auray DLED6-RM Rackmount Dual 6-LED Gooseneck Lights www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1395811-REG/auray_dled6_rm_rack_mount_dual_6.html The Furman lights do ok, but these goose-neck lights are much better.
I love your videos. I find them interesting. I do have a question, why don't you use covers o your speakers? I have covers for all mine and wouldn't go without them. I have never seen those rack lights, what a great idea, much better than the pull out cylinders that come in the PDU. Also, thank you for the info on the voltage regulator/UPS racks. I have a UPS and thought is was a voltage regulator also. I was under the impression it regulated the power also. Keep up the good work!
Regarding the speaker covers... I find them to be a problem. If I had speaker covers, they would only be used during storage (like our current RCF 8004 sub). I think covers are great, but having to pack our trailer/van with speakers that have covers becomes a management issue. Also, the cost of the covers can be somewhat expensive.
I realy enjoyed watching this video. It is informing an rich of details that I needed to satisfy my curiousity about how to manage audio in live parties. Thank you very much.
The faders should always be set to where the signal is good for the program being mixed. Any effects added to an input will be pre-fader, therefore, the fader location is irrelevant.
Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure if 3rd party plugins can be installed. You may want to try this Presonus support site: forums.presonus.com/index.php It's possible someone has posted a question covering your question; as well, you could try posting your question there. Hope this helps.
He jus made a list of 1.5 million $$$ ingear to connect a system that does not to be this complicated, is not like cows and horses will be running by the mixer, I always send my cat5 cable on top of the mixer above all the action, if possible on the roof never had any problems my cables basically land on my mixer, I get it we have excess and we love to exagerate everything, thats why we live this world of self made inflation, people goes crazy hiking up prices for no reason at all, this why gear is so freaking expensive
It's odd thar you don't use any digital stage boxes. That's a 32 channel mixer with 16 flex outs (plus stereo Mains), but you need a digital stage box to get the other chanbels.
We have a digital solution, but opted not to use it due to the space limitations. The video doesn't show it well, but there really is no room for much of a PA.
it might be interesting to hear how you mic'd (or DI'd) each instrument and vocalist in this small environment. What options did you have? What options did you choose? Since the band knows you well and v.v., was there anything that you did for them that might be different form someone you don't know yet? Thanks. Great stuff!
Good questions. All guitars and keys were direct (all amps had built-in DIs). This was to ensure more floor space for the band (no mic stands needed) and to reduce (or eliminate) feedback due to "open mics". The vocals were all using Sennheiser e835 and e935 with gain settings appropriate for small (tight) stage areas. Because I have worked with this band a lot, they actually did something for me... they brought in their own monitors! Beckwith and I talked about it due to the space issues. If I were to have brought my monitors, the whole stage area would have had to move out another 3ft. to accommodate the monitor speakers I use along with the monitor amp rack. From my side of the service, there is nothing I did any different for "beckwith" as I would have for another band I have never worked with. Though, I did record their gig at their request... Some bands I have done videos for (when mixing them on their gear). At the end of the event, I just give the SD card I used to record with. Thanks for your comment.
I stil love my alto speakers they may not be as good as JBL RCF QSC or what ever big brand out ther but they are in a nice price range and if you treat them well they wil last you long time
I have 4-RPA-16's from ROCKVILLE class H.. 1.4 K @ 4-ohms. per-side... I can do 3000+ watts each bridged. 47lbs. each. 10-12,000 watts at 188-lbs.. $400 for each unit...Great price! My setup is in a 12X15 foot room..
@@stageleftaudio I'm with you I absolutely HATE ipad mixing but unfortunately it's a necessary evil in some venues that only have a rack console and I'm just hired to mix not rent gear. For shows I bring gear I try to use a real console.
The X32 is trash, you didn't do anything wrong. I don't know what they were thinking when they were doing the routing setup on that mixer. I use a lot of board and find non ANNOYING like the X32
Good question. We do not use our consoles for streaming, however, you may want to try asking your question on this Presonus support website: forums.presonus.com/ You will need to create an account on there. There's a lot of smart people on there that could probably answer your question.
Interesting issue. A couple of things: 1.) Make sure your browser does not have an aggressive ad-blocker on it. 2.) If not already, you may need to setup an account with Presonus (connect.presonus.com/home). On the forums.presonus.com website in the upper left hand corner, there should be a button titled "Click Here to Verify You are Human". This will take you to the Presonus login page, where you can sign in (or sign up). Once you sign in, it should direct you back to the "forums.presonus.com" website.
