The worst thing about recent generations for me is how the game gets you by the hand all the time. I remember playing gen 1 on game boy. No tips, no help, some times no idea where to go. The Pokémon games nowadays take you by the hand all the time telling exactly what, when e how to do things. Not to mention the overload amount of unnecessary dialogues. I’ve just played scarlet and felt extremely uninterested and bored. The Pokémon franchise nowadays is extremely boring.
the illustrations commemorating yr teams are rlly sweet, i like them a lot and they remind me of the drawing contests that the nintendo magazines used to have. good stuff :)
This video had me thinking about my previous teams. -Started my Pokemon journey in Sinnoh in gen 4, unfortunately for the entirety of gen 4 (Sinnoh and Johto) I am unsure as to what Pokemon I used outside of the Hall of Fame which are teams of just starters and legendaries. -Gen 5 I have a box full of gen 5 Pokemon that I think are cool but I only remember half of the team I used in Black, and in Black 2 I apparently used Emboar and Sunkurn for most of my gym battles (with Magby occasionally being on my team) before I decided to only use Fire Starters and Flareon for the E4 and Champion. -Y is the first game that I have a record of the Pokemon I used during my playthrough and E4 and champion battles. -X I have a record for the second time I played through the game in French, but not when I first played through the game in English. -Omega Ruby I only know of 2 Pokemon I used during my playthrough being my starter and a Manectric, the Hall of Fame having my 5 most sentimental Pokemon from across gen 4-6 (my starter Inviur the Infernape, Victoria the Volcarona I hatched from the egg gift in Black, Luke the Lucario gifted in Y, Marley the Manectric caught on Route 110 in Omega Ruby, and Brave the Bravery obtained via online trade). With the exception of Omega Ruby, gen 6 to present I have been able to keep track of the teams that I have used, including the team I used when I decided to reset Platinum in 2018.
i LOVE team-building and especially hearing stories about how people go about it. and the stories behind which gens were happening at which points in our lives. So this was like crack to me.
Watched the entire thing and realized there were no mention of Alola teams? Awesome in depth video though, it was great hearing your personal stories and experimentations with team building/role playing, while also learning a lot!!
1:42:20 I thought you’ve stated in past videos that the reason why you weren’t a huge fan of EV training and competitive battling was because it reduced Pokemon to just stats and numbers?

I thought you RNG maniped for that Flygon in Colo at first, and I did that hunt because I wanted to use him on my team and it was horrible, there's so much RNG noise in those several rooms you have to go through. Do not recommend
I love the way you break down over the course of the video. Most of your current age of videos are fairly clean, and then you just get so irritated that you just progressively slip more and more lol
When I was making my stadium and stadium 2 teams in the late 2000s I ended up hatching 2 shiny Eevee back to back. It was mind blowing to me, even if the odds weren't as crazy as other hunts. I also hatched a shiny Cubone because I was obsessed with the idea of using bone club Marowak, and a shiny Charizard because purple
i love gen 1 so much. even just walking around and listening to the music. i understand this is extremely influenced by nostalgia and that’s fine with me. i’m extremely nostalgic for the cozy little chiptune lullaby’s, for the janky 8 bit pixel art
I haven't gone back and watched the HGSS video yet so I am only just experiencing this now, but there's something about your unscripted delivery that's just really extra nice and cosy. Your enjoyment of this video format really does shine through in your presentation, and it's both an odd experience as a long time RU-vid viewer, in a good way, and a really nice point of difference from the usual scripted videos. It feels like a peek behind the scenes almost, really casual and super chill, kind of like a podcast. A fun lil video, I hope you make more on other stuff when you feel like it <3
Strong Pokémon. Weak Pokémon. That is only the selfish perception of people. Truly skilled trainers should try to win with a party that has a cohesive color scheme
Damn i have a completely different view because FireRed was basically my first pokemon and i have such strong memories of it. But these criticisms make sense
Not going to lie, I really like the thumbnail. Edit: Not sure, if I talked about it, but I really liked to create movesets for ALL pokemon, I came across. I didn't even play Gen 5 or 6, but I have movesets up to Gen8 prepared. Crazy. Now I focus more on making youtube content and playing chess. d=
I’ll never forget trading my friend my entire gold version team and version exclusives over to his game so I could reset and choose a different starter only for him to get lost in a dark cave. It was only years later I realized I could have exhausted all the pp in his team and ended up back in a Pokémon center…
"I played until I got stuck, and then started over from the beginning" That was totally me when I was a kid. And now (also as a 30 year old) I'm more focused on at least beating the games I own, if not 100%'ing them. I think that change in mentality is partly born out of a desire to feel like I'm getting my money's worth out of the games I buy. Also, weirdly, I feel like I sort of owe it to the game devs to actually see all the stuff they worked so hard to make? idk if anyone else feels that way about it.
I hope we get to see a feral woman show us her Pokémon collection (as in the digital creatures she just finds interesting, memorable, or sentimental that she has in various main series games and in storage systems like Ranch or HOME) for several hours sometime.
Post watch takeaways, 'negatives': Story - No Spelled out Protagonist motivation - No Grand plot point of why they're stealing pokemon Gameplay - No spelled out motivation to purify pokemon - Shadow Rush is anti strategy spam - Very Few strategy heavy boss fights - Doesn't play like Stadium, though the name is a reference True, but I played before I could even read the word colosseum so, this game is S Tier fr. Real positives: Story - Character Motivation/Roleplay - As a kid, filling in the blank of why I was doing something was so fun. Imagining I took the snagem machine to look cool as heck in my blue trenchcoat and be a badass bike riding outlaw double agent, stealing back and opening the hearts of these angry pokemon was so sick. Not everyone's cup of tea, but not everyone enjoys absolute bangers like Earthbound, Chronotrigger, or Ocarina of Time either. - Antagonist Motivation - The shows and earlier games built the premise of steaping pokemon to sell for parts(slowpoke tail) or to others for a hefty profit. The motivation is so samed throughout the games, and it's different from Ruby/sapphire, but if youlook at RBY(Team Rocket steals pokemon) GSC(Rebuild team rocket to steal pokemon) it falls in the same line. Gameplay - Stealing bad guys' pokemon is cool as heck - purifying based on some weird childlike connection to the pokemon was much more than enough motivation for myself. Them little critters was hurtin and they needed love :( - Shadow Rush I think was to show they're just fighting machines with no thought, because thats what these shadow pokemon were being treated as. - As a kid, if this game was any more difficult I would've went crazy. Grinding for levels was enough to build a kinship with my team and understanding on how moves worked. - As a kid, I had no idea stadium existed lmfao Overall, from my adult eyes, EVERYTHING in the video is accurate, and a lot of the story and gameplay is bland, missing, or inconsistent. From my experience as a child, this game was one of the best games I ever played. From the crazy ass character designs, to the sheer shock value of the opponents randomly having legendaries, and seeing I could CATCH THEM, the mythical and daunting 100 floors of mount battle... i had leafgreen and never once connected it to my gamecube, and I don't think I ever knew I could, let alone trade from it... lol
