Question for you and the community: I'm looking for a black enamel wash, I've used Ak interactive streaking grime and love the effect, but it's a bit green for the project in mind where I want silver metals to come through. I'd love to avoid buying several things to experiment with, What is your go to enamel for black? I'd love something that dries matte and less oily, any positive feedback appreciated
We'll see when Skaventide launches for that. About filtering: yes of course. Dilute the washes with 3 parts water and a little bit of glaze medium. Go with multiple light passes and slowly build up the hue. Of course needs some extra brushwork to make sure the filter integrates nicely with no staining.
Love the video and wish i had the bits to make your original DA, i have been searching hobby shops for the fur and im getting nowhere, please point me in the right direction.
I kinda want my second 40k army (besides by first one being the Orks) to be Death Guard Also your model kinda reminds me abit of the anti-war artworks made by the German artist Otto Dix
This is a different kind of mini painting. A bit too grimdark for my tastes but i appreciate the style and creative side of it. Using different textures and finishes is clever. Would love to see what it looks like on a table though or at arms length as its pretty damn dark even up close
Acrylic paint took a monopoly hold over wargaiming hobby, and Im so glad that you are helping to show people that there are other products that suit specific needs! It is truly a world of wonder when you discover possibilities of enamels and oils as additional tools in our hobby arsenal
Litigious society and "Mmmm that paint water looks good to drink" painters. Also brush lickers. I use both. It's cold outside in winter and they stink. Now winter and summer are more fun.
I received my Villainy Ink collection (in the UK) a couple of weeks ago, and they absolutely didn't disappoint. I've already painted a few minis from Bloodborne with just the washes, and Ichor of the Damned is now my new go-to for adding shading very quickly.
Awesome! I bet they work well on those Bloodborne miniatures. The color palette of this first wave of enamels works great with them. And it's going to get expanded!
I rather like screwing around with varnishes, especially gloss varnishes. Making a model look like it is in the rain. Puddles without resin pours. All sorts of stuff.
So how much does the overall look change if you prime grey, spay the whole thing with the green-shade, and then zenithal with the titanium white? I'm also curious how much the color/finish changes if in your first enamel step if you skip the drying and just move directly to wiping off your highlights with a dry cotton bud or sponge. Also what about dot filtering the metal with the smoke before adding the rust enamel and then scumbling with a brush that is just damp with the rust?
Yeah. Just takes more time and back and forth to make it look clean and even. Washes mixed with water and glaze medium and do multiple, light transparent passes.
Love seeing these videos. You make it all look so easy! What type of paint brushes do you use with your enamals? Im hesitant to use my nice sable brushes.
Oh no! Don't use expensive brushes for solvent based products. Keep those for fine brush work with acrylics. Use synthetic brushes, but don't break the bank. As long as they are decent and solid. I use Royal & Langnickel.
This is interesting, but in my local store they cost more than 4 times the price of other enamel washes. I hope they go down in price because I cannot justify a purchase atm for this.
Have you done a black templars mini before? I am currently doing a more grimdark look without using oils or enamels as i have no idea how they would really work on bt.
Do more of these please! The problem with the whole grimdark style was the perceived "difficulty" and challenge of learning a different painting style. If you can build up a selection of basic recipe style videos like these showing the products in use to make simple paint schemes you could definitely get more people on board!
Thanks! All this music was written by me or a friend that's been doing it for almost a decade, from the OG days of the Compendium. Most of our music is self produced.
