I was able to speak with Roger and check out his ZL1, and also the orange ZL1 convertible when they were at Bloomington. Something I wanted to do for decades!
When I was a teenager, we wanted a jeep or a bronco. We wanted a boat too, but not this kind of boat. This Boat reminds me of having to go to church instead of going fishing.
I kove the old muscle cars . And old classics. I have a dream wish list 34 ford roadster. 37/38 Lincoln zephyr. 41 willis coupes. 67 fast back mustang Thats it folk's lol . Great video bud
Remember in early 1990's in high school I had 78 blue version with gold bird and gold honeycomb wheels. Got of Auto Trader for 5k. Those were the days! I like nostalgia but not for 100k!
My uncle, dad’s oldest brother. Was born on Christmas Eve. Every Christmas, all of us on dad’s side gather for Christmas Eve . It was really pretty cool. These were my cousins that had some success. They had the latest this or that. I’m the youngest of all the cousins. By 15 years down to 3 years. So the older ones wouldn’t include me in their shenanigans until I was at least 12. Didn’t matter to me. I’d hang with them anyway. We’re talking cars right? These donkeys had some bad ass fords mopars and even a couple Chevrolets. 68 289 hipo muskrat convertible. 70 390 Mach1. 69 428SCJR Mach1. (1 of 250 4speed others were c6) for homologation. Had no mach1 or motor tags anywhere. Was a drag pack car Black Jade in color. His little brother was the one that started playing with the Hemi roadrunners. Had a black 68, 2-4 barrels race intake with liftoff fiberglass hood. At a stoplight. I saw the hood get sucked down to the carbs when he’d rev it! We called that one Brutus. Nobody beat Brutus that I ever saw. He had a 70 Hemi R/T-S/E lipstick red charger. With air conditioning and power seats and locks and windows! (Shoulda kept that one)! Then on Christmas Eve gathering, were kids all going inside at the same time as another uncle and cousins. Gar guy cousin grabs my cousin who’s closer to my age. But these guys hang out and smoke n shit. Again, I was ten at this time. They go to the garage. Uncs 78 Seville then his wife’s 80 380 SL. Then there it was. A red with black rally striped 69 Camaro. Like I said, I wasn’t really invited. But I was right there. Dudes saying, see how this sits up a little higher than any others you’ve seen? More than Z28s or SS? He fires this thing up. I mean, it was ridiculous. He actually had a 69 ZL1! In his garage! He went through vehicles rapid fire. I know he was partial to his Super Bee, and Brutus the RoadRunner. Otherwise, did not get emotional about them. Here one day, gone the next. He had a 73 Olds Custom Cruiser Wagon. 72 Firebird Formula 400. 80 Corvette L-82( couldn’t do a burnout going uphill on wet grass)! Ah, the memories. Thanks to my family for being automotively inclined! My favorite vehicle that I had? I had a 76 Gran Torino Squire wagon. Dark chocolate brown metallic with wood grain siding. It was actually a sharp car. Hauled everyone. Then I had my midnight blue metallic with light blue insides.79. Camaro Sport Coupe. Not a Z 28. Better looking I thought. Had the spoiler. T-Tops, rare turbine alloy wheels. It was one of the best looking cars. Guys liked it. Girls liked it. Little old ladies liked it. I want another one!
I remember this car being offered at Krouse auction in Auburn Indiana in the late 90's or early 2000's. If memory serves me it was being sold by Estes's wife after he passed. Someone stole the brief case with all the documentation from her car in the parking lot. It was pulled from the auction and a reward was offered for the return of the docs but nothing was returned.
Awesome to see you getting the new shop setup and ready to go. I am out of commission for a bit had knee surgery again, but soon will be out in the garage again.
You and I have chatted from time to time about my specialty- 60's American Muscle Cars. I enjoyed the talks about COPO Camaros and HEMI engined Mopars (my favorites). I totally enjoyed your videos about everything cars. All the best in the future. I would LOVE to see a new Muscle Car channel...........Charlie Christie, New York City and Northern New Jersey.
1968 GM went on strike which limited production for 375HP cars like the Chevy II Nova. I believe the 68 350HP BB Chevy II Nova was more rare. As far as my interest back in the day for a car like the featured Camaro it would be little interest. Less was and still is more like radio delete, carpet delete, no PS, No AC, No PB. It was a BB 375 HP, Rock Crusher, 3.73 and Dog Dish Hubcaps.
I've got a 70 Judge Conv RAIII 4 spd 4.33 gear car in my shop right now, I painted it 22 years ago and am fixing a chip in the side where something in the owners garage fell against the side of it. One of 168 1970 Judge Convt's produced. (in the 1980's when we were in high school we used to push this car judge conv out of the garage in the middle of the night and go street racing) with the 4.33's it topped out at 85-90,mph at redline in 4th. Dana Mecum owns the Pete Estes car last I knew.
Thanks for your hard work, and dedication to try and inform the car community, with Barrett Jackson auction and Mecum auctions, now everyone thinks their 1960's station wagon with a run of the mill small block engine is worth six figures. And it's sad in a way that many Muscle cars have become nothing more than blue chip investments. Bought, but yet never driven. That's not what they were built for.! Yes, I understand that people want to preserve them for dexterity and to inform younger generations what it was like to own one of these. But, the original owner more than likely drove them as intended. They are the most likely people who have actually enjoyed the car.! If I had disposable money, I would joyfully tell the current owner of whatever car, if I buy this, I'm going to run the hell out of it. Not put it under glass.!
Thanks for that note Dale. The last BJ auction I attended was such a shocking thing to me, I'll never forget what I saw. Trucks, Broncos, and Restomods from the 60's and 1970's bringing $150K+ and original 63 Split Windows less than a 1972 F150. I could not believe what I was seeing. Boss Mustangs, Hemi Superbirds, and 69 Camaros all about 50% from just a decade ago. But Broncs and 50"s Corvettes in look only? $300+. Why? They did need anything and are ready to drive. Muscle Car Madness will be on a break until I sort out the new garage. I don't close on that property for 10 days so I'll keep you updated. Thanks again for your note.
