I am a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, writer, public speaker, and an advocate for autoimmune wellness and the AIP community. I love sharing my autoimmune story and raising awareness for finding JOY while living well with autoimmune disease!
After over a decade of progressively worse health struggles, and finally hitting my rock bottom, I was diagnosed with the autoimmune disease, Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis.
Within days of my diagnosis, I went to work developing habits and adopting the autoimmune protocol (AIP) in an effort to find relief from my autoimmune symptoms naturally. It worked!
In my free time, you can find me enjoying nature walks with my husband, cheering my son on at his baseball games, taking my daughter rock climbing, going on a road trip, playing with my two boxers, snowboarding, or snuggling up with any kind of book!
So glad u mentioned stress and mindset. So incredibly important ❤. I jumped all in with the diet . Just sick of feeling bad . And so far about three weeks in I feel a difference ! And lost some extra pounds so happy 😁
It’s not working for me so far at one month in. I was juice fasting before and was doing amazing. Switched to AIP because I was told it was critical that I begin. From the moment I started AIP I’ve been going downhill. Fatigue, brain fog, and weight gain. I barely eat but gain non stop because of my Hashimoto’s. I’m going to bring back my green juices. I need the nutrients.
I love your energy and fantasizing about one day being this excited about something besides music! I am working on a book about everything I learned in the past 5 years of doing AIP. i think I’m gonna watch this video on repeat until I naturally am excited. I grew up in the South and this is so foreign to me and everyone. When i started i was the only one i knew in my town/region doing this. A couple of years later I finally met someone else in my town on AIP and almost fainted😆 i was so relieved and excited that someone else got it. I felt so good the first month or so of AIP but after eating beef liver I had an allergic reaction and wondered if I had alpha-gal but was never tested. I just eliminated it and introduced sardines and then salmon. It’s been 5 years and I still haven’t eaten beef, chicken, duck, or pork etc. I’ll never eat pork😆 even if it’s pasture-raised organic. I know too much😅 but I will miss bacon. Thanks again! I fall off the bandwagon a lot and eat “AIP junk” once I could eat chocolate again because in the South, I grew up eating sausage, eggs, toast, orange juice for breakfast. It wasn’t until AIP that I learned from my doctor that it’s best to eat fat free breakfast and eat fat with lunch/dinner, because if you want to detox, you have to eat fat free because if your liver digests fat, it can’t dump toxins, but if you eat fat free, your liver doesn’t have to use all its energy to digest fat and it can dump toxins. I usually drink “lemonade” and a smoothie but have added chickpea pancakes and scale back to smoothies when my symptoms pop up. ❤
We are trying for a 2nd child and it looks like my 1st pregnancy kicked off the Hashimoto's for me. and i'm losing the pregnancies around 6weeks constantly... will try to give AIP a go and see where we get. unfortunately GP is not helpful and told me i'm not gonna be taken seriously as i already had a child. :(
I lost 30lbs in 30 days with AIP my mom was so concerned lol! I did not workout during this time either, I have Hashimoto’s and was having a hard time getting pregnant. Not long after this I was able to conceive.
Hello, can you please share the taco meat recipe? I notice that the link no longer works and the sarahgoesaip isnt recognized inside IG. Thanks so much!
Can we eat marmalade of Amla Indian gooseberry, Quince, Carrot, Apple made in organic honey in aip diet which is good for health in traditional medicine of India and Pakistan? Also can we consume grain, wheat and rice in cheat days?
One day everyone has to die so i do support cheat days once or twice a week where we can include wheat, sugar, rice and anything... But for the first 3-4 months we have to follow strict diet, then we can cheat...
First time in 14 years I truly feel like someone else knows my journey with Hashimotos 💝 thank you so much!!!!! 💝 I weighed myself just before discovering your video, naked, no glasses or scrunchie, anything to see a lesser number. My weight was 100g higher ... again. i checked the scales with a spirit level, to make sure it was giving an accurate weight 😮 I lost 24kg in 2021 by loving myself, and trusting i was enough and enjoying clean living. I've since put 12kg back on. Today i realised why. I started doubting myself, because my GP thought i was taking too much levothyroxine to lose weight, she didn't seem to believe i had lost weight by clean living. I lost weight because I chose to love myself, and ironically i have gained weight worrying about my GP's false understanding. Being alone in this journey is the hard part. Thank you for reminding me that self compassion, belief in yourself and clean living IS the life i love. Naked, with spirit level in hand, was a paradigm shift moment, time to accept myself, in this moment, not chase an elusive number. I choose self compassion, health and joy, it does make me happy. From now on i'm focussing on meditation, gratitude, clean diet, daily strolls and slowly building strength with gentle bodyweight-bearing exercises (lovely to use this weight in a positive way 😊). Rather than worrying about this body, it's time to ENJOY LIVING ... WITH it. Thanks again for sharing your journey, you are awesome 💝
Hi Shanna. I add the same collagen peptides in water for a couple of minutes and stir, then I add it into the smoothie and the consistency stays smooth. Thanks for sharing this😊
Thanks for sharing I have tried AIP but still haven’t found the cause. I think there is something else underlying so far I have hashimotos since 2015, Reactivated EBV diagnosis last summer & IBS constipation dominate. Sometimes I feel human other times like right now I want to crawl in a hole till it passes back to the ok times. Been doing everything that supposedly works but as soon as the season changes or I get under more stress than my normal stress I go backwards.
Thank you for your testimony. It's a rare one, in its depth. Worthwhile. Wish you much health, much happiness. (Me, i'm also an Hashimoto diagnosed one, with a very different path, feeling very balanced at the moment, very attentive+relaxed. Besides the prescripted medication, i pointed much on nutrition)
Just want to say I appreciate this. When I could no longer tolerate apples or oranges it really made me depressed because i relied on them for specific nutrients then i found other foods because i had to to get calcium like bok choy which i'd never eaten and i love it.
I exercise a lot and I got intolerant. I ran 3 miles a day. I got real sick. I have other autoimmune diseases several in fact. My bloods were low and we didn’t know why. I get maybe that’s what was wrong. I gained from 117 to 136 in 2 months. My dr always checks my thyroid because I have sub clinical hyperthyroidism. It’s been fine. No one ever did the antibodies test in me. I just had a dr that did and I have high TPO. I tried my best to keep moving as much as I could during this time. I didn’t want to get degenerative. I’m made through and am building back up now but I just found out about this antibodies and I not sure what we will do with it.
Thank you so much for this informative video. And thanks for sharing that I can consume organ meats through a supplement. I appreciate you sharing the two brands you use. Are the supplements titled “organ meats”? If not, how do I find them on the website that I purchase my supplements?
Thank you so much for sharing this! I’m just delving into AIP to help with my reactive arthritis. Your kind and calm way is very encouraging. Thank you!
I so appreciate your honesty. I haven’t been diagnosed but I have a lot of symptoms. It’s gives me hope to see your joy. I reckon God brought your video to me. Thank you ❤
Look at her eyes when she speaks, shes so excited and cute. Its sad that when I initially started the AIP diet about two years ago we didn't have so many different alternatives and people experimenting much with foods. I say sad, because that means more people are suffering. Yet, the good part is videos like yours so thank you precious. Be well.
I have had Hashimotos for a little over 10 yrs and now I'm 49 and in menopause so it's even harder to try to keep weight off. Nobody really talks about menopause so I'm just going to say "Ladies watch out"!😢
I find that my experience in the doctors’ offices to be one of my biggest stressors while I’m being screened. Some of the staff are insensitive and unwilling to listen so they make mistakes that are tough on me! I’m feeling terrible and my patience is thin! It’s good I can realize this is harming me and I need to try to manage it.
Thank you for the info. I stoped AIP about a year ago when I got c**id. Had to stay isolated and my husband doesn't have a clue. He would bring home fast food and leave it outsied the bedroom door. I was on it 8 mnths and lost 37lbs and was feeling some better. I have refused injections or infusions so far. I have psorisis, psoriatic arthritis, and sjogrens syndrom so far. Who knows what will pop up next. Hope you have some videos on batch cooking because latley we are eating on the fly. A lot of things I made in the past my Husband didn't even notice it had substitutes or deleted things. I whish he would just stop eating bread, grains, sugar. Sweets are his down fall.
I started gluten free, dairy free, soy free Its soo Hard. But i think the most really hard part is seeing other people eating what they want and they aren't sick. While we are on strict deit and rules,, still dealing with our autoimmune dieseases.
I'm 25 years old. The most hard part is living with people that are healthy and i'm the only one who is dealing with all this diseases, I always think if im living between a gluten free ,dairy free, soy free, or AIP Society,, i will be fine.
