Trying not to take myself all that seriously. Trying not to let the b******s get me down.
This channel features story stuff, Electronic Music, Synths, VSTs, and musical musings. Creating noise and sound stories. I work mostly as a story consultant and sound designer in live performance and theatre, with the odd film/game thrown in for good measure.
Not a bad mucking around session lol. I totally love mine. Apart from the very old MC-303 I have linked to mine it's the best idea scratchpad I've ever owned. The analogue channel is basic as hell, so I use a Behringer Wasp to fill that gap. My advice to anyone wanting one is to use the use the PC editor. Menu diving gets annoying
Love my JD-Xi ! It's got EVERY banging 80's & 90's Roland sound in it ! You do need to go hardcore midi & sys-ex mapping to get the most out of it though 👍 #808 #909
Thank you so much for your informative content! Very helpful to a Digitone beginner like myself. Question for anyone : is there a way to program more than 16 measures (4 pages)?
When you transpose the chords/Arp, does the bass sound note/part automatically play the lowest note of the chord? or is it something you have to setup?
I've heard that so often that people hate reading the manuals. To be honest, I can't understand why. The Elektron manuals are some of the best out there, and they really take the time to explain their devices. It was only when I started to RTFM that I understood my Octatrack. In my opinion, they're really worth it. This, in combination with videos like yours, is a good way to learn to use this awesome kind of gear. :)
Roland JD-Xi is one of very few synths that are MULTITIMBRAL. I have seen bi-timbral, like in the Summit, but mostly older keyboards have that feature, which manufacturers seemed to have dropped as a feature...which is a shame. Bring multimbrality back along with after touch. Gear can do a lot these days but the companies purposely cripple it to an extent....to keep everyone buying more. Always hold back on a feature until you bring out a newer model. It's annoying.
Those "things" you are having trouble naming are generally called "steps", or in the Elektron parlance "trigs", not "beats" (which is a musical term that means something else).
Didn't know you could get one with white instead of the horrible red graphics. Looks much nicer, much less like a toy! Or is this an after market optional front panel?
Why is it impossible for someone to answer the question 'how do I save to the sound library' (not the pool). Basically I made a sound, from scratch, I love what I've made... and then all I could find was how to save to the sound pool so I've done that but when I do this, for some reason, none of my library sounds are visible any more and I'm stuck on my sound pool sound only and this is not what i want. I want to save it as a sound preset in my library... so I can choose it at any point I want for future / separate projects. I'm baffled how no one is answering this question?? Any help would be appreciated. First things first, how on earth to I get my main preset library back as it seems to just be stuck on this sound pool?
Thank you for this video Arrowsmith! You really put it to work. I'm new to the craft and I have an off topic question regarding how you did the recording. Do you record the performance on a daw on your computer then sync it with the video recording from the camera? Thank you and sorry about the basic question
Been messing about with my girlfriend’s JD-Xi, and I gotta say... definitely not a toy! A lot of power for a small package, and there is quite a lot that could be done with one, regardless of experience level of the player. Leaves a lot of room for growth and experimentation if the user is a beginner!
You can hear some sounds from big orchestral libraries in here. Just slamed some fx plugins & sold for some bugs. Not a fan of this product. Too much random stuff.
Really really cool. I just got mine about a week ago as my first synth. How did you sequence all those different patterns together so smoothly? I can do 4-bar looping grooves but this seems much more sophisticated than that, more like a full song.
