Lose weight with a low carb/keto diet and intermittent fasting. Amanda Rose, Ph.D. describes her experience with these tools that helped her lose 140 pounds, down to 140 pounds from a height of 280 pounds. Rose ate no more than one meal a day for nearly a year and the biggest reaction she gets is "You are STARVING yourself!" The name "Eat Like A Bear!" comes from a May 2018 video in which she embraces the notion of starving the fat off your body, 23 hours at a time.
Hey there! Nann here. Not feeling so very awesome, but claiming that I am. And trying to remember my victories and how strong I am. When I started Eat like a Bear, I couldn’t even walk around the block and I lost 115 pounds with basically no exercise except chasing my grandson around. I’ve been struggling with a regain and maintenance. I have a totally 100% sedentary job driving and I’m lucky to get 400 steps in a day. That’s not a joke. But I really want to nail down my WHY and re-focus on my health. Thanks for keeping us motivated and inspired Amanda! I seem to have lost my mojo.
I just bought a rebounder and started jumping a few minutes several times a day. We don't have sidewalks here so if I want to walk I have to drive to a park and there are way to many mosquitoes here in the summer so I finally got a rebounder 😊.
This video is so great on so many levels! Love Amanda’s sassiness! Just thought I’d mention that Costco has ACV vegetarian capsules (180 count and 2 capsules per serving ) that provide 1,200 mg per dose…I personally have no reaction to ACV and love the convenience. Price is around $19 and sometimes it goes on sale. Costco also sells the ACV you shared (San Francisco, CA).
I started walking to the end of my street after losing weight at Eat Like A Bear. A year later and 90 pounds down, I now walk an hour each morning. I just returned from a dream trip to Greece. It was all hills and steps. I was able to walk up the Acropolis. I climbed the steps of the first Olympic Stadium. I hiked 6 miles on the island of Amorgos. I walked for 4 hours around Mykonos Town. I did not realize I was so strong until I was challenged with this trip of a lifetime. ELAB made all the difference. ❤🐻
The human body has evolved over millions of years and we are so lucky to have the benefits of this. We dont even begin to understand the complex ways in which our body provides us with everything we need. Its quite amazing. I have a deep respect for my body and try and provide it with the nutrition it needs to do its job well. Starving it is not the way to go. Of course I will lose weight if I starve my body but what else will happen? My vital organs will be negatively impacted and so to will my mental health. I would not be dealing with the real problem. I am trying to ensure a varied diet concentrating on healthy items - and trying to observe portion control. (No, I'm not a skinny person, I too have a real problem with portion control. I love food!). Please don't encourage others to engage in starving their bodies! Same goes for bariatric surgery. It should be the very last resort, not an alternative to disciplined behaviour (dont expect bariatric surgeons earning pots of money to tell you this). Currently I'm eating small portions of healthy food 4 hourly (12md, 4pm and 8pm). In between Im engaging in tasks to take my mind off being hungry. Yesterday, I cleaned out and tidied my pantry. This morning I sorted out a large cupboard, gardening this afternoon. I'm losing weight, getting great satisfaction from the jobs I've done - but above all I'm learning to eat less. My apologies if I've hurt anyone's feelings. Its not my intention.
oh know this vid is from a wile ago but just wondering if anyone else experienced this after losing weight quite fast did anyone else find sitting up difficult got pains down both sides used to be able to sit on my bed without back support no prob had to sort out an arm chair after my theory on it was that when was fatter had more support but when lost that weight had to start using muscles had never needed to use much to support me instead
I'm on day 6 of water only must admit getting off the coffee was harder than getting off food the headaches were painful I'm doing it to revert my diabetes and for weight loss in the last 2 months did about 6 weeks altogether with water only for about 11 days do keto when I eat been doing this sort of stuff for about 4 years but had let it slip back after the first fasting friends walked past me in the street not recognising me went down from 420lb+ (scales didn't go up high enough) to about 308lb right now down to 287lb (should point out I'm stupidly tall at 6'10") I want to get down to about 210lb and know weight loss and cutting back on carbs heavily will help a lot with diabetes and over all feeling very positive taking vitamins and electrolytes to make sure don't go deficient
It does work. However, I would encourage you to increase the protein and calcium content by adding high protein cottage cheese/yoghurt. I would also add fish or meat three days per week and fresh coleslaw salad with one tablespoon of olive oil once a week. Have a one free meal per week, ideally one that is also high in protein. Also, once a month have a day free but don't drink alcohol as it disrupts your metabolic balance for days after and renders the diet redundant over that period. Add healthy spices such as Turmeric and Cumin. Add Bay Leaves once a week. Switch it up.
i drink the stuff straight all the time. it's only a single sip it's not like you have a full glass of it it's really not a big deal. i also have a concoction i drink every morning that is absolutely revolting but again i just chug it down once a day and it's really not any big deal. imo if you really want to enjoy optimum health you have to get past the idea that everythang you put in yer mouth needs to entertain yer taste buds.
So true! Fasting is amazing for an all or nothing personality- it helps to reset the whole mindset, you crave healthy foods, you appreciate small meals and that drives weight loss
I know this video has been posted for over a year now but in the vein of your discovery mode after the burned forest, could you start thinking of yourself as being a Johnny Appleseed while on your hikes. As Johnny Appleseed, you could bring seeds for herbs and other wild forage-type perennial plants and flowers and sprinkle them around so you could repopulate the plants and trees in the forest. Or you could take some native plants from an overpopulated area and transplant them to another area that needs something. Just a suggestion. Also, here in Minnesota, Morel mushrooms LOVE growing after a fire. Morel hunting in the sping might be a great motivation for you and your son now.
Thank you for these videos. You are very inspiring. I particularly appreciate you asking yourself what will you do to maintain. I realize that I have never asked myself that question. And have had a lifetime of weight loss failures. Your honesty and your maturity are refreshing.
I am so happy to have found this video. I appreciate your openness and vulnerability. These feelings are so familiar to me. Thank you for sharing and offering hope.
Beautiful! Trick your body into eating beans and lots of oatmeal Salads and drinking water Feeding the muscle not the fat. If we do it for a month we create a body that burns fat 24-7 After the fast, because we only gain weight if we go back to eating the garbage food. We become redeemed Great work! Excellent
Hi. I loved this way of eating and it worked so well for my body. I now donate plasma and 😅 I'm scared to do OMAD ... any suggestions 🤔 for a person who donates 2x per week. Friday and Sunday morning.
Really loved this video. Have to realize that we should try to understand that each person loses weight in so many different ways…fast, slow, big numbers, small numbers. All those results matter!! As long as we are consistent in the plan (I’m doing real well with the 2 meal plan right now)…results will build up. Just keep going, engage in the ELAB community with big or small results, struggles, and successes. We all get it😊🌻
Amanda, I love your energy! You're a born educator, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, kind, and I love the aesthetic - the way you weave your love of the outdoors into all that you do and share with us. Thank you for sharing these gifts with us....
One idea is coming back to coffee but with an adaptogen blend that helps reduce the negative effects of caffeine. This can be mushroom coffee or adaptogen creamer. You kind of have to play around with flavors and options until you find something you like. Good for you for getting back in the game without shaming yourself! ❤
When I cook a big pot of veggies and legumes: broccoli, red lentils, onions, green peas, kale, seaweed, and lots of Italian herbs (with a sauce of spaghetti sauce, mixed with a blend of cultured cashews, cauliflower, etc), I put a couple tablespoons of ACV in the water. It helps to keep the oxidation lower and thus helps to preserve some of the nutrients.
