How do you know where do mount the motor? How much tolerance is there if any?
@dcoxryton
@dcoxryton 9 дней назад
It is pretty straight forward. Sprocket center level with the swing arm bolt center. 3.5-4" center to center. Make sure the rear wheel is straight in the swing arm, measure at the adjusters. Then use a straight edge from the rear sprocket to the new motor sprocket. Make sure the motor is level to the frame, side to side.

Hi Donald im about the enbark on a electric trail bike build here in Sydney Australia, i need to get the bike engineered to pass strict australian design rules if i wish to use it on the road here, have you worked with 90H QS138 supplier is stating same size yet 4kw vs 3kw rated compared to 70H ? thanks for the videos and tips, i intend on using a 260S
@dcoxryton
@dcoxryton 2 месяца назад
I haven't built with that motor, the 90H, but if you are going to use the EM260S controller, you will end with the same horsepower , being limited by 40-450A at 72V. The 70H motor is 1" narrower. The 90H mess's with the rear brake pedal. Have you motor mount water jetted by Lithium-King.com. Just give him a few measurements, and he can make them out of any material ( Aluminum, Stainless, Titanium etc. He only does it for the QS138 70H V3 motor
@davecarter34
@davecarter34 2 месяца назад
@dcoxryton thanks Donald so I stick with 70H from a width point. They state the 70H is rated 3kw, do you know what kW or hp you getting from this motor with 260s and 72v batteries, I plan on getting Kenny at amorge batteries to make my power pack
@dcoxryton
@dcoxryton 2 месяца назад
@@davecarter34 With the Em260S, you can pump 400A to either motor. 72V times 400A = 28.8KW or about 38.4 HP. You will need a battery to supply 400A for a while. What bike you put it in determines how much battery. A 20S16P battery will give you about 40 miles of single track. A 20S20P is 25% more. Amorge is a good place to get your battery.

how easy is it to convert a 2013 yz250f with one of these and how much is it? top speed? how long does battery last
@dcoxryton
@dcoxryton 2 месяца назад
The Motor and controller installation is pretty easy. The Battery space limits how big a battery you can put into it. The 2013 YZ250F was the last year of the early Aluminum frames. Space is limited to about 20S12P (50AH , good for about 25-30 mile of single track) The 2014 YZ250F opens up to a quick change battery, kind of like the Surron. A battery about the same size and range, it just can be swapped. There are some new batteries that can give you more range, but you lose on the Higher current and power, if that is what you want.

Here is a rough estimate of a build. Motor and controller form China direct. $900, Motor and Controller kit from ElectroandCompany.com, $1500. There is value in E&C with there software and support, and an easy to put together kit. To do the work of putting a bike together I charge $1000-1500. a 20S12P battery for this bike is $2000-2500, battery charger and case. So you are right at what I am asking for the KTM and you could sell the Yamaha. I helped a guy in Utah with his build of a 2008 YZ450F, He got a bigger battery in it. 20S16P. Hey, Donald. Perhaps you could help me understand something with batteries and verify my calculations. If I used Samsung 21700 5,000mAh 25 amp (no temp cut) batteries in a 20s8p (5,000mah x 20s x 8p x 3.6v = 2.88kwh) set up, is that only safe for (8p x 25amp)=200 amps? Or could I run the controller at, say 350 amps, because it is only drawing that kind of amps for a small percentage of the time? Just including my math to verify my understanding of this stuff is correct. I'm new to this haha
@dcoxryton
@dcoxryton 2 месяца назад
Hey good question Kyle. We have just done these same calculations. The Samsung cells will, or can give you 350 to 400A for short periods, according to people who have used them. But the Molicel P42A can do it with less heat. Cost is similar, but we find heat is a problem in summer riding and hard riding. We place the BMS outside the battery box, to keep it cooler for the charge cycle, we use the BMS for Charge only control, not Discharge control. The motor controller shuts the bike off at low voltage (slows down at 65 and shuts off at 59V).. If you are going to build a battery for endurance or longer running at lower currents, the Samsung are a better choice. but for harder riding and hotter conditions, the Molicel's are our choice.
