Hi, Allett recommend that you either remove or raise the little grass rake behind the front roller if you are using the scarifying or verticutter cartridge as it can dig into the soil and degrade the battery quicker.
I would not say it’s impossible to burn your lawn, but as long as you are following the bag rates it should be good to go. Make sure to water in right away and or plan to apply when rain is expected within 24hours. This will also help to prevent it from burning the lawn. Thanks for the support 👍🏻
No grease fittings is not good! I’ve had cars that had no grease fittings and the front end parts didn’t last 15,000 miles! The replacement parts fortunately had grease fittings and they have lasted over 150,000 miles! Now obviously if you don’t grease them they won’t last but if you simply grease them once or twice a week they will outlast non greaseable parts exponentially.
Sorry if I missed it but how many sq ft are you mowing with that GM1000? I’m trying to determine if the 21” width is good enough for my 6500 sqft or if I should go with the 26” wide GM1600.
Had a question for you, or anyone really. I recently had to replace my belt because the other one shredded even though I just bought it back in May. I replaced the belt and went to use it today but it felt off. Seeing your video reminded me that I forgot to put that green arm back in the right spot that is there to guide the belt. I’m not sure if this is what made my mower self propel by itself as I engaged the level for the assisted propel of the mower but my mower was moving on its own and the blade was spinning. To stop it I had to disengage the propel level but the blades keep spinning despite not holding the handle to engage the blades. The mower did feel more powerful at the wheel and jolted forward more and it definitely took more force to stop the mower. Wondering if maybe it was just that green bar that guides the belt or if the clutch needs to be adjusted? Any ideas?
The clutch arm and green back arm guide both have some adjustment. When replace with a new belt, even when set properly, the reel may still spin without the cable being pressed. This is normal as the new belt needs to be broken in. After a mow or 2 it should be good. If it still continues there after it may be set too tight causing the reel to spin when it’s not intended too. Hope this helps 👍🏻
I used the video while I did this mod and it was very helpful. If you are debating about whether this mod is worth it, I'm only 5'8" and the stock height was giving my 67 year old back a bad time. So much better at the higher level!
Thank you so much for the feedback. Yes it the way every cal trimmer should be sold. I feel it brings the mower to a much more natural position. I also like the drop wheel lever is now in higher and better position.
Bonus...you showed me how to fix my throttle cable that hasn't ever worked! I'm not a small engine guy so I didn't really know the ins and outs. Thanks!
I bought a McLane last year, nothing but trouble….that machine is trash , three months after I bought it the rear axel broke. Nothing but trouble since I got it . And had too pay 3 times more than my last one…NEVER AGAIN WILL I BUY ANOTHER MCLANE !!
I talk more about the stand in this video as well ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-t_VlW0XINnM.htmlsi=v6N-mNiEkKDpnWHO Mower Stand Materials 2 x 16 inch (2x4 stock) 2 x 4 inch (2x4 stock) Wood or Sheetrock screws - size and length csn vary and mutiple option are available.
Ordered & received mine last month after watching Dwayne's World videos. Bye-bye rotary mower! The CT cuts like a dream! Leaves nice stripes on my low cut centipede grass. Solid build, this thing is a "tank". Shipping weight of 200 lbs. I'm guessing the operating weight is around 150 lbs. You have to think 2 or 3 paces ahead when turning it or mowing around tight areas and curves. The company has great customer service. They sold me a like-new refurbished floor model at a nice discount. They also talked me through a few set-up features after the mower arrived!
I've owned a California Trimmer since 1968. I bought a McClain six years ago. Because of problems with bed knife, the mower not moving uphill, and bearings wearing out I pulled the old Cal Trimmer out of the barn, installed a new bed knife, New electric start engine, new chains and I now wonder why I quit using it. The bearings last forever if maintained, you maintain the bearings on the McClain by replacing them. you maintain the bearings on the Trimmer by applying grease. My Trimmer just turned 51 years old.
This is the best backlap video I've seen so far I learned the direction of the chain link and also putting your blade against the bed knife before adjustments Thank you so much
So, it's basically a "Round" Hedge Trimmer! I've got the Stihl hedge trimmer attachment for my string trimmer, and I've used it several times in dense ground cover an it worked great! I will have to look into these! Great video!
I didn’t use the set screw location that was on the original trimmer head. If i did it would cause the unit to be turned 90 degrees. I just went ahead and inserted the shaft into the new rotary scissors and just tighten the side set screw on the rotary scissor. Have had no issues and it works fine with set up i went with.
@@joefigueroa6059 you want to make sure it’s shafted and not a drive by wire system. I believe the auto head is a drive wire system and would not work with rotary scissor. I could be wrong so you want to do some more research.
I know this is an old post but thought I'd put in my 2 cents. Today's putting greens are at or below 0.125-inch. Lets think about the geometry of the mower. At putting green height the angle of attack of the bed knife is correct, but if you raise the height to 5/8 or .0625-inch, it changes the bed knife angle of attack drastically. It flattens it out when you raise the front. IMHO the 14 blade will give you a great quality of cut if the bed knife angle of attack is proper. To keep the correct angle of attack, you would have to raise the rear roller and on the GM1000, I am not sure you can do that.
@@jvke.p I can’t post a pic here but I think if you look up quality of cut for toro greens mower, you’ll find a section that shows the angle of the bedknife. The flatter it is the more it struggles with making a clean cut. The bedknife angle should tilt slightly higher in the back than the front. However you can adjust your mower to achieve this angle of attack, the cleaner the cut.
@@chadcochran4654 that makes sense. I’ll add shims. The manual calls for 2 shims based on my HOC. think I need to go to an 8 blade for .4 inches or am I alright with 14 blade?
Generally if you plan to cut at that height, a rotary mower truthfully is a better option. Reel mower don’t perform as well and should be used for hoc of 1 or 1 1/2 inch or lower. Hope this helps 👍🏻
Dwayne, Great channel! Just got a new CT after 32 years with the same Honda HR 215 rotary . I have Tiff 419 now. Where did you buy the 80 grit compound in bulk?
best video ever on a Mclane Backlap...I have a 20inch and after a reel change I have a slight metallic sound coming from the reel. I think the reel is hitting the shroud. Not to mention Im gong to make those wooden stands...great idea!
I wanna see an oil burner option… like a KD15-225 4.5 hp Kohler or A 15LD 3.7 hp. A bit heavier but I like the ability to store diesel in large quantity as a single fuel without the fuel going stale.
They are heavier and louder than normal string trimmer. With that said although heavier they glide over the lawn quite well. I think they are especially great with Bermuda turf where it so easy to scalp with a string trimmer where these will not. For cool season turf. In my opinion only are not as a can’t live without tool. I do find with a string trimmer when i overseed with rye grass in the winter. Hope this helps 👍🏻
Loved the video, have some PRS on my way. My question is: I have the multi head ego version but with a carbon fiber shaft with the power load option. When you said the carbon fiber doest work because you need the multi head ego machine, mine is both hahaha i have multihead attachment version with the carbon fiber shaft would that work to convert? Can I put my PRS on a carbon fiber shaft attached to a multi attachment ego trimmer version? hope that makes sense. Appreciate your review on them
Great video I have a Mclane edger that is about 30 years old. When it come to turns you should tip the edger up into the front left wheel and it will turn much smoother. It takes a little practice.
