I’m loving these podcasts and I love that fact that you guys aren’t afraid to speculate on the MMO. Yeah it could be a while before we hear something but who cares. Have fun, remain optimistic, etc… It will come when we need it the most.
To be fair, Garen's sister (Lux) is a mage, and sylus was his friend, he's emotionally invested in their plight. I can defs see your take and maybe we got swayed too quickly, but i mean, he still kept his sister's magic a secret, which in theory goes against his character. Also pretty wild that their father is the head of the mageseekers.
Thanks for the podcast guys! MMO Runeterra has sooooo much potential, they really fleshed the lore out these last few years! Part of me would like them to maybe go down the mmo route of the manhwa Overgeared. In essence, there's like 10 base classes in the game, but during your questing and story progression, you have opportunities to gain a new unique class. The game isn't really balanced though, it focuses mainly on the narrative, so I can see that peeving people off haha. Still cool to have that hope of finding your own niche class because you opted to be a baker or you joined a cult or church. Cheers!
I have never heard of manhwa overgeared but the idea of building a unique class as you level is interesting. Although I do see what your saying about balancing. Thanks Kingboom!
Action combat. At least 24-28 skills/abilities per class. Mostly single target abilities with just a couple of AoE skills per class. Equalized PvP battlegrounds and arenas. Open world PvP and alliance PvP is where gear should matter.
I played GW2 for the first couple of years of that game. Quit sometime in Path of Fire (Second expansion) and I would not say PvP was a focus. WvWvW was mostly one-sided or two out of 3 servers fighting. Structured PvP had an esport and maybe they still do, maybe it grew since I last checked? But I doubt it. In my experience, it is more a PvE-focused game than a PvP. Having only 10 skills* at a time makes it way easier to get into. And probably the same reason League is easier to follow even if you don't play. Having fewer possibilities makes it easier to follow and learn. *10 ability slots. Some classes can swap weapon combos for 4*5 skill combinations or have chained utility. What you see is not necessarily what you get. I would love to see Riots MMO take the approach of fewer skills at a time but more options to choose from
Oooh older Nunu and Willump. Making me realize MMO beibg set in future with like old man Yasuo and stuff would be awesome. Would also allow them to keep some current storys more vague for other projects.
52:00 I actually got a survey from league asking very similar questions but there was a lot, like I mean alot... I took screen shots so I can send them to you guys if you want, idk what through tho
4:15 There are many stories I would like to see Riot take on after Arcane. The Three Sisters in Freljord (the original three not their "reincarnations" in Ashe and Sejuani). The fall of Shurima with Azir, Xerath and maybe even getting into the origins of the Darkin. The invasion of Ionia would be pretty cool because it should have some heavy tie-ins with Arcane; as you guys said Noxus is already spreading their influence in Piltover/Zaun with the Medardas and whos responsible for a good amount of destruction in Ionia? Singed. The Runewars and the founding of Demacia would be pretty cool, we might see Kayle and Morgana but I don't think thats gonna get developed anytime soon. Heck even following Milio as he unlocks his Fire Axiom to go through the Vidalion would be a nice story to follow! Huge potential for the "Riot Cinematic Universe" or whatever it'll be called
All you have to do is look at GOT The doom of valeyria story to see how important mystery and the unknown is to the magic of storytelling. Riot need to stop telling us everything, i mean the way they used the watchers in Nusus game was a joke, makes me really think they are trying to appeal to children
I wouldn't mind being able to go down the Howling Abyss, but you need to constantly be under pressure of dying. You can't stay alive for long enough to do anything really. I really do agree that I want us to just be a nobody and having to build up a name with different factions, like a reputation but not just a bar. A little more involved and perhaps being friendly with one faction makes you hated by others. Being able to do everything on one character is in my opinion annoying. I do not mind being able to be more self sufficient having multiple characters help yourself though.
you nailed it at about 18:00 Riot are revealing too much about powerful mystic things for a while now. That is why lotr was so cool, you didnt know all about the balrog, or gandalf, or the elves who had their own far off mystic land. as soon as you start telling those stories it's not cool anymore, it's like santa claus
On a given fight in WoW you barely use 5 spells. In GW2 you might have fewer abilities at once but you can swap to something that works better for an upcoming encounter or a place in the open world. Honestly its pretty close to the same. But you are locked into what you chose at the beginning of combat. I personally like that lot. I hope to see a bunch of skills but you have to chose what your current abilities are in the moment to moment gameplay.
Presuming that the game takes place at a specific time and year in the overall timeline of Runeterra, what do you guys think about a way for players to play through champions history/past experiences? For example, if you are a fan of Calista and Viego you would probably love to play through a story such as the Ruined King storyline. Or if you loved Irelia and Swain you might then love to play the Noxus invasion of Ionia. However, this won't be able to happen if we are playing a conventional MMO set in a specific year. I think we should all assume that we will be playing our own character in the MMO that we create and name ourselves, but maybe it would be cool if there was mini-expansions or some additional gameplay that allowed us to experience ancient, historic events firsthand. The opposite of this is just hearing about and reading about the ancient stories of all the champions and never actually experiencing all of these adventures. I want a conventional MMO. I don't want them to mess with the formula, but like i say, it would be nice to have some method of playing these events.
I like this alot. Or they add Udyr and Lee Sin and you play through their story with Udry starting in the Freljord and going to Ionia. 2XKO can definitely be used to tell some great stories. I really hope Riot does it
That is where we have the most background, but I have a Runeterra Lore channel, and we will be talking Riot MMO potential Raid bosses next week! If there are any other topics you want us to discuss, let us know!
My hope for combat is that it's like league of legends, but, I do worry that fighting large opponents might not work in that way. I do think tab targeting could work for auto attacking and some abbilities but I really want skillshots aswell. I have also been thinking that I hope that the classes are pretty simple liken in league with Marksman, Assasins, Mages, Enchanters, Fighters and Tanks with your abbilities (and your subroles) being alot more dependant on gear/abbilities learnt through gameplay. I'd rather play as a fighter and learn new abbilities from a quest featuring master yi as he teaches us Wuju techniques or aquire some flame blade skillshot from a cool sword i made/found then have all my abbilites just come from leveling up. Also hope that not too many weapons get locked behind classes but are rather just more effecient on some like with leagues items.
I think they will do combat like Kingdom hearts 1. Where it is action combat in 3rd person that has a lock on feature, like tab target, but which will translate well to consoles.
I'm already a fan of this podcast. Since Trynd says we will be staying dark for years, I think you guys should go all the way back to Runeterra lore day 1 and make a series from that covers everything in detail and how it could relate to the mmo. I personally prefer hearing a conversation than a script read of the lore as it is easier for me to digest while focusing on other tasks in life.
Man I remember listening to this podcast way back in 2024. Crazy to compare what your saying now to what the actual game has become. We never knew just how good it was going to be. Can't believe how well Riot actually pulled it off !
I don't mind if the Riot MMO is a copy of WoW but I just don't want tabbed combat. That is the only thing that I don't like about WoW and its not even WoW's fault, tabbed combat was a feature of the time it was in, its 2024+ tabbed combat just feels dated.
Well with the latest news . . . you guys may be right with the 2028 release. I can wait, just means I will know A LOT about lore & world. Okay BIG question for me, PvP in the MMO Arenas 2v2 / 3v3 - Battle Grounds - World PvP events, So for a Battle Ground, I hope they have an ARAM homage or the Old Dominion Map is basically AB from WoW, maybe a 20v20 on a Huge map of Summoners Rift taking towers & Neutral Bosses for team buffs.
I never followed WoW Lore at all, mythic raiding, server first M+ RBGs . . . but I LOVE the Runeterra Lore & want more of it ! Got so much more hype for their MMO from knowing the lore
Really hope it is not 2028, that would be like 7 years to make it, I mean it would be an amazing game given that long, but I hope because Riot have a huge team & very skilled at making games, that we get it with in the next 2 years not 4 *fingers crossed*
Hopefully we can be fish people like from Bilgewater. I actually don't know if they are Vastaya or not. We don't even actually have any in league even, I'd say Tahm Kench is one but I know he is actually a demon.
That is acatually a cool idea, the region you choose affects the type of Vastaya you can make. There are Vastaya in Bilgewater but none are on the character list for Bilgewater or have stories about them. Lounging Lizard in Legends of Runeterra for example.
Could be cool to get new stories with skin themes in 2XKO as well, maybe we get a story in the odyssey universe or something. Would probably be in skin bundles or something.
I've played Guild Wars 2 for a bit and the way they handle horizontal progression is that once you hit lvl 60 and do the endgame dungeons and world events, the gear you get from those are the best gear you can get (kinda). Which is cool on one hand but I stopped playing because I didn't feel like I was progressing, why should I do the new stuff when there's no incentive other than story. Theres a lot of things in GW2 like environmental unlocks, mounts, subclasses etc but to me those don't make me want to progress. I do love the mounts though, I think GW2 mounts is the best mount system in an MMO and they make flying super fun
The Project F footage is from the Riot Pls 10 Year Anniversary, the ORIGINAL Riot Games Direct/Announcement lol Id call the riot announcement event RGX, Riot Games X (insert game/name here). Similar to what they did with ArcaneX
The image on the "we are making an MMO" page is from LoR. We have seen zero from the mmo. We have only just found out the name of Project L today (2XKO) and that comes out 2025. They wont mention the MMO, not even the name for many years. Best we can hope for is a Project F dev update in 2026.
I get the feeling that Riot MMO will have three big Updates per year. Rather than one large expansion and small patches throughout the year. But that's just my theory. Good listening to you fellas :)
That may actually be a better way to spread out the content if you not going for the expansion box price every 2-3 years. Awesome having you in the Brazen Hydra Dylan! 😅
F2P or B2P + Cosmetic Shop (weapons, armor, mounts etc.) + Battle Pass = the way to go. However the B2P model also needs a Cosmetic Shop and Battle Passes. I am ok paying 60$ once for the game. Updates should obviously be for free for both F2P and B2P. The Cosmetic Shop and Battle Passes are optional. F2P would be much better than B2P because barrier of entry. Monthly sub model is HORRIBLE because it costs a lot and stacks with other subscription models like YT, DAZN, Sky, Spotify, Twitch and what not. Not even mentioning electricity, gas, water, insurance etc. Nobody can pay all of these monthly subscriptions/costs anymore. Too much and too expensive. So let us play for free and from time to time even the F2P players will definitely reward the devs by buying something from the cosmetic shop or by buying the battle pass. Another important thing is a ingame broker where players can buy/sell cosmetic items bought from the cosmetic shop for ingame gold to/from other players. Therefore F2P players that play the game and have enough gold can buy cosmetic skins without using their money. Gifting skins and battle passes to friends is also important. There should obviously exist a shop currency too. With money you buy the shop currency and than with the shop currency you can buy the skin from the cosmetic shop. The broker, gifting tool and the shop currency mean more money for the devs which results into more updates and the game living longer.
The Turn based game. Project F,T&L, the MMO even the Valorant movie. Also so so very long away. Ghost Crawler hinted that Riot take too long with projects because they are "endlessly trying to innovate" while I don't want things Rushed out by no means. Taking more than half a decade on an RPG game that doesn't even have a name yet is a bit of a joke.
@@TheBrazenHydra really sad new about Riot games layoffs and Riot Forge shutting down. I'm sure you guys will be able to talk about the few positive things such as their focus on internal games like the MMO and MMOFPS!
About the In-Game store Thing. I'm also pretty sure it will be Free-To-Play with an in-game shop, which honestly, if its transmog and stuff like that I really dont care, the problem comes when it becomes a way to save time (You can Buy In-Game loot, or upgrades or save time like level boosts), 0 problem with transmog. I also think the 2nd option is having a box cost of 60/50 with no In-Game Shop and no monthly sub, also box price for expac, which I think would be free with an In-Game shop aswel. Last option and I dont think they'll do this one is Monthly Sub with no In-Game Shop and no box price for game and/or expacs. Pretty safe to say that Riot prefer having a big community than money just by looking at the model they use for their prior games, where only cosmetics are sold and a few people who empty their wallet fuel the game for all the F2P players. Not an Issue with it personally. What I fear the most tho are Battle Passes or something like that, which is also a common practice for Riot, it tickles me the wrong way personally, but everything else is okay with me cause I know how fair they usually are with F2P players.
