Going to a steak house is great but it's also gonna cost you a pretty penny. I say we can do this full steak meal completely homemade, on a tight budget with results that are... dare I say better?

This proves once and for all that the real secret to fine restaurant dining isn't technique, fancy plating or fancy schooling, but just, butter. Lots and lots of butter.

As you point out the oodles of us who've worked in kitchens know (and kids figure out) 'it's all about the fat' - esp freshest and fullest fat ie non-chemicalised - prob not a real word but who isn't disappointed and annoyed when fries have been added to a fryer with recently added cleaning chemicals?

It helped me to do prep work on Sundays. Between working 50 hours a week and doing school work online, ate out A LOT. But I started doing prep work Sunday. Any rice, vegetables, etc got cooked Sunday. Meat got cooked Sunday and refrigerated or frozen. Then when I wanted it I just reheated and/or cooked pasta. Or do soups/chili. They always taste better after a couple days in the fridge. Lastly, I used an app called Mealime to build grocery lists. I pick the meals I want, it makes me a grocery list, and I've got however many meals I picked ready for the week.

stuffing is literally vegetables and bread. pick your favorite protein. chicken, ham, turkey, steak, pork loin, whatever. just cook it properly. mashed potato is cheap. cranberry sauce from scratch is a zillion times better and only costs a few bucks to make. you can make decent gravy with a handful of herbs and a box of chicken stock if you don't want to make it from scratch. depending on how much you want to spend on your protein I'm sure you could do an entree and three sides thanksgiving for under 50$. It's a really great way to reach out to an audience that can't always get their hands on some of the over the top ingredients you always use. Im not in anyway way shape or form trying to have a go at you with this comment but I find this series is more relatable to me than some of your other videos and I legitimately get so pumped for every episode of but cheaper that shows up in my subscriptions.

Requests for "But Cheaper": - Lobster (whole, bisque, tail, whatever) - Sushi (I know you did this in a regular vid, but some cheaper cuts of usable fish would be nice) - Truffle (A video about how to get truffle flavor into food without buying actual truffles / explain when truffle works in a dish) - Beef Wellington (Again, I know this was a regular vid, but if there is *any* possible cut of meat that could be substituted for the tenderloin, tell us. I drop over $100 every Christmas for our annual Wellington. I like doing it, but it is 'spensive.) - Wine (What are your favorite budget wines? What is the difference between expensive wine and cheaper wine? You could make this 3 whole episodes covering red, then white, then sparkling.) - Oysters (Is there a cheap way to get delicious, fresh oysters?) - Fine dining. (Could you recreate something from E.M.P. or Alinea or wherever at a much cheaper price point while maintaining the presentation? Say.... the floating taffy balloon?) - Spices. (What is a good substitute for saffron? Or other expensive spices?) Hope this helps. Love the series.

I wouldn't eat a 1 Dollar steak, that can't be meat.. from a species I want to eat ;) Esp. this vid was to show that compared to other food prepared in restaurants it's easier to re-create at home. Much cheaper and easier as the main ingredients are very simple, meat and vegetables. At the same time the meat quality has it's limit on the low end. Very cheap meat needs more work and for a steak there are limits.
