If anyone didn't understand the satire of the video name, I don't legitimately think the 9mm is a bad cartridge. I just love to poke fun at it over the amount of people who are obsessed with it as "the best ever". Also, considering how many people do love the 9mm and understand it's ballistics, well that just makes this video easier to follow and understand the .327 Federal Magnum ballistics better.

i never said 9mm was the best at anything i said its the best i have that fits my daily needs the capacity is a huge selling point and the commonality of it and price but there are loads of better guns and rounds but hard to find a gun as reliable as a glock and have the same features for under 500 dollars the taurus g3 does that for me
@GunSam
@GunSam 3 года назад
@@joemorganeatmyshortschannel I like the M&P, but that's just me. The way it fits my hand is correct and they have been more reliable for me. Aside from my current Glock I had another one, and it was fairly reliable but I had maybe 5 jams in 1,500 rounds. I have had 3 S&W pistols, two M&P's and one 915 and I have never had one malfunction. I have only like 500 rounds in one M&P, 100 in the other and 1,000 in the 915, similar round count as the more reliable Glock I had, but S&W is winning for reliability for me.

I think you're doing the Lord's work by spreading the word on the .327 Magnum. This really is a tremendous cartridge and it makes for near-optimal.carry in a small, lightweight revolver like a Ruger LCR. Meets or exceeds 9mm performance and you get an extra shot.

I’ve been carrying the .327 Ruger LCR for years and it’s the best setup for me. I just smile when people put down .32 as being weak. You have so many options with the .327, from easy shooting target loads to .357 @$$ kicking loads…it’s also inherently more accurate. In my book .327 Federal Mag is the best handgun round bar none. Love the channel, keep up the great videos 👍🏻

If anyone was wondering about load data with the 100 gr Gold Dot bullet, I once dissected one of these rounds. It was 14.0 gr of powder and that powder looked exactly like Ramshot Enforcer. Interestingly enough on Speer's website they list the max charge of a Ramshot Enforcer load at 13.5 gr (compressed powder load) and Federal 200 primer. One caution would be that the use of a brass case and not a nickel plated case would be advised, as a nickel plated case could cause a cracked case from the extreme pressure.

The only reason I carry a P365 as opposed to the Ruger .327 Federal Mag, is because of availability. I know things got crazy the past year and a half, but before that, I couldn't get my hands on the .327. Also (I didn't see mentioned) is the .327 handles basically all the .32 family, plus shot shells, and it's surely easier to reload. Thanks for your time making this video !

Man I need to quit watching your.327 videos,everytime I watch one I end up wanting one lol. I'm with you regarding six[or five in my case] rounds being enough. I live out in the country,the big crime wave going on here is somebody going around stealing peoples mail. If I'm going to the nearby store I'm perfectly content with a J-Frame or even a .380 in my pocket,at the most I'd have a S&W Shield IWB. Now if I'm going to a high crime area I will carry a 17+1 9mm with a couple reloads. But like you said it does weigh you down and combine that with the heat and humidity down here in the south in the summer it makes trying to conceal all that pretty miserable after a couple hours.

The .327 is probably the closest to the perfect round for a small frame revolver there is so far. Well above .38+p power and just under .357 with the same velocity, less recoil and a sixth shot. Too bad Federal screwed the pooch when it first came out.

I really enjoy your videos very much. The one thing that bothers me about the people that argue with your results are the same people that can’t do math. V2 X W divided by gravities constant or 450240= FPE. It is really simple to figure out yet bullet styles make some difference to a point they just can’t rap their brain around the facts that you present. Your using a chronograph for goodness sakes…how much more do they need. This isn’t the often exaggerated manufacturers claims but real world! Unbelievable really. You do a hellova job showing the reality of it all and some still shake their heads in disbelief and still call BS!??? Un-freaking real! Some people just can’t be taught I guess my friend but your trying so hard to expand their mind. Thanks for the video and your time and money to make it. God bless.

It's my carry gun as well. God it was hard to find one though. Nowhere on the internet could I find one after looking for months and months, I just happened to go into the showroom when I was shooting at an indoor range and saw it (wasn't looking for anything to buy that day). I got so excited to see it, I think the salesman thought I was nuts. I'm like omg you have one!!! I actually got it for a good price too even in this crazy market. It must have been sitting there for a while and they didnt jack it up like they did every other gun in their shop. And to top it off, it was also the x version of the lcr, which is what I preferred as well. Sam disagrees, but I like having a hammer on my revolver. I know the arguments that it could get snagged when drawing it from a pocket holster, but I've practiced drawing it hundreds of times and it was never an issue. On some traditional revolvers with big hammers, it might be a bigger issue, but on the ruger lcrx, the hammer is very conservative, most of it is shrouded and the amount of spur that actually sticks out is very small. In fact its just enough for me to grab onto with my thumb. So ruger knew what they were doing there. Is it likely that I will ever NEED to shoot it in single action? No, its not. But it could happen, and I like more options than less and it also makes the gun more fun at the range to be able to cock the hammer back and take longer shots in single action. Although thats only a small portion of my practice, because I know that most likely I'll be firing in double action if I ever had to in defense. But that's just my opinion on the whole thing, yours might be different.

@@327SixShooter I know exactly what you’re saying. My buddy has one and I was always an admirer but like his I wanted the “X” version. Was at my locals gun shop a few months back and low and behold there it was; pun intended I pulled the trigger on that purchase so fast, I didn’t even ask to see it; I just got a salesman’s attention and said I’ll take that LCRX .327 right there. Shortly there after, ordered up some .32 S&W dies and various calibered brass and bullets and here I am. IMO, like the .38Spl the .32 is one of the best calibers to have on hand for just about everything. I like the .327 federal Mag for carry but honestly feel that the .32 H&R Mag is a better carry option. There’s plenty of stopping power there and better for quick follow up shots if needed. I am also pretty old school when it comes to defensive carry. I carry wad cutters as defensive rounds and religiously practice the thought of shot placement over sheer power of the round I’m carrying. Don’t get me wrong, my reloads are the full power 100gr Buffalo Bore .327 FedMag and I wouldn’t hesitate to deploy them, but IMO, they are just too powerful for up close and personal use.

In my view the .327 is THE best platform for any revolver with a barrel less than 4" in length. It has performance equal or better than .357 in a short barrel, and less recoil which makes it more controllable and easier to practice with. The other thing is that .32 H&R is a great round also and is basically like a less-recoil version of a .38 plus has an extra round in it. Once you get to about 4+ inches the .357 starts to overtake the performance of .327 and most .357s at that length are 6 shooters like the .327. I also agree with you on the self-defense side of things. The thing is, and I think this is a point that is missed, is that a revolver is an inherently defensive weapon by its nature. Most self defense shootings are resolved in a few rounds, and are at close range (

I'm sure there probably aren't that many interested in lever guns anymore but I would really like to see more performance testing with these calibers like .327 in carbines. I’ve learned a lot about ballistic performance and hollow point expansion over the last couple of years, mostly by watching your videos. After all that I think this is my favorite test you’ve done. It was one of the major factors that convinced me to go find a Ruger LCR in 327. I like a lot of calibers and I think in the end bullet placement is more important than caliber in a real fight, but 327 seems to be the sweet spot in velocity, energy, recoil, penetration, and carry capacity (if you like snub nose revolvers like me). Thanks for all the great info over the years.

Wonder what that 130gr Outdoorsman (hardcast Keith bullet) from Buffalo Bore would accomplish? The 100gr .327 runs a .147 sectional density, which is equivalent to exactly 130gr 9mm (explains the .327 penetrating a bit deeper than 124gr 9mm). The 130gr .327 runs a .191 sectional density, equivalent to 170gr .357mag.

Enjoy watching your videos! I've been intrigued with 327 Federal for a long time and wish ammo availability for it was better. That being said @21:28 I'd have to disagree with your assessment. The 327 Federal does not rival the 357 Magnum. The 327 Federal is on par with 9 mm +P rounds. The .357mag walks away rapidly in terms of terminal power and bullet weight range availability. I would still get a 327 revolver for certain personal defense / carry situations, but with a lack of Factory ammunition available and in general a shortage overall, it's tough to go that route at this time.

@GunSam
@GunSam 3 года назад
But 350 to 450 FPE is exactly what I get for energy in my 2" .357 Mag snub. So while the cartridge itself will not rival it in a rifle barrel, in a snub it does for sure. Hot .38+P or 9mm+P is 350 FPE in a snub, but the .327 is getting up there well over 400 FPE, or exactly what a good .357 Mag is in a snub.
@Super64heavy
@Super64heavy 3 года назад
@@GunSam Thank you Sam for the great videos.👍 What were the bullets used out of your snub nose .357? While the .327's(100 & 115gr are heavy for caliber which increases sectional density and helps with penetration, the cartridge and loads peter out after that. The .357mag 125gr defense loads are on the low end of its range and go up to 180gr. So I guess my question is what .38cal bullet weight are you comparing with the .32's? 115gr .32cal @ 1300fps yields 431ftlb energy from 3.187in brl.. 125gr .38 @ 1450fps yields 583ftlb energy from 4in brl.(granted these lengths aren't the same and from Wikipedia) Also, consider bullet diameter/ wound channel. Speed isn't the only factor to consider. I stand by my statement that .327 fed (while being a pleasant round to shoot, which certainly increases control/accuracy potential) being touted as a rival to the .357mag is a stretch. That being said.....first chance I get I'm getting one😊 Lol. Actually the daughter is looking at one. Keep up the videos. Happy Independence Day!🇺🇸

The other 25% do beat the .327 Mag, so as a whole the .357 Mag wins, however it wins with what feels like 100% more recoil, at least that's how it feels to me.

I appreciate that you cover the subject of sectional density in most of these videos and how that relates to actual performance. All too often there is the assumption that light weight will equal under penetration and vise versa. I have seen less penetration from some .44 mag rounds on here and these little 100 grn. bullets are expected to barely be effective due to lack of penetration. Obviously that is not the case. While I still have my own bias towards a larger diameter bullet I am growing less biased against light weight bullets. Now it's just the size of the hole but not so much the penetration that I am concerned with. This video makes me want to re-watch those old .327 vs .38+P and .357 videos.
@johnholbrook6042
@johnholbrook6042 2 года назад
Over penetration appears to be something to be concerned with. Do we really want a round that penetrates 6, 2x2s for defense at a convenience store robbery while other people are in the store?
@WhoWouldWantThisName
@WhoWouldWantThisName 2 года назад
@@johnholbrook6042 I'm not saying that OVER penetration isn't a concern, or at least factor. If you notice my comment actually just addressed the topic of how light weight bullets are typically only thought to potentially under penetrate but rarely, if ever, over penetrate. I was saying that in some cases this is not true due to the sectional density of the bullet. Just as a heavy bullet doesn't always translate to overpenetration. Some rounds do produce enough hard target penetration that I wouldn't want it for SD in certain environments for that reason. In the wilderness that would not be a concern to me but yes, as you stated, in some situations it is a factor to me for sure. Under-penetration is also a concern though and in many tests, like the famous PH meat target, very rarely were expanding bullets carrying enough energy after exiting the target to be of any significant hazard. How much I would want to lean in a given direction depends entirely on the surroundings and scenario the round is chosen for.

That 327 is such an intriguing cartridge... 🤔 Very capable & more often, I'm guilty of underestimating it's performance in short barrels. I really wish I could add a good 327 revolver & lever gun to my collection, just so I could get set up to reload for the family of 32's. Reloading 9, 380 & 38 is fun but... its starting to get a little boring. I need something new, something different, some excitement, some "strange" in my life! 🤣 Great video man, thanks for sharing it 👍

Thanks. I have reloaded all of the .32's except the .32 ACP. The most fun is a .32 H&R Mag with fast powder and an 85 gr bullet. Those will do 1,000 FPS with no recoil, at least as my perception of recoil goes, yet they move fast and hit hard. The .327 Mag is hard to reload unless you are skillful at reloading magnum ammo. Whenever I try to reload even .357 Mag I don't crimp enough to get the right pressure. The .32 H&R is more like a .38 Special, simple and easy just load with regular old 9mm powder and go.

I hate that Speer dropped the 115gr Gold Dot in .327 Federal. Still have a few rounds of it left that I haven't shot up and keep in the gun. But the 100gr Gold Dot is definitely a close second favorite of mine as far as .327 Federal Magnum defensive loads go. If my supply was limited though I'd feel comfortable with those Federal American Eagle 100gr JSP's. Done a lot of .327 shooting and testing, even in a 3 inch barrel like my SP101 it's cruising over 1,400 fps with 100gr bullets. 115gr bullets even when +P or +P+ don't get numbers like that in 4-5 inch handguns typically. Often you got to drop down to 90gr loads or lighter. But even comparing 115gr to 115gr, the SP101 was usually chronographing 1,350 to 1,370 fps average where as 9mm +P 115gr's were maybe 1,100 to 1,180 max.

I hate to admit how old I am but back in the day before I was old enough to have an opinion I knew certain administration officers who carried the old standby 38sw and 32long revolvers as duty weapons. With what they called training back in the day some of these weapons wear never fired in the line of duty. I do agree that in today's society these would be under gunned for any law enforcement work but the few times I have seen the results of these under rated calibers fired there was a new grave to be filled

Very nice comparison. Thank you. ... I've been enamored of the .327 Federal not as a self defense cartridge but as a field revolver in a Ruger Single Six with a 7 shot cylinder. ... Gun Sam, I'm curious as to why you dumped your brass, saying the caliber is "hard to reload." ... I've always found rimmed, roll crimped revolver calibers much, much easier to reload than rimless, taper crimped semiauto calibers. ... What do you find difficult about reloading .327 Fed?
@GunSam
@GunSam 3 года назад
I normally save the brass, I just didn't feel like saving those while I talked as my save bin was 50 yards away. The process of reloading it itself is not too difficult beyond nearly impossible to resize brass that sticks in the dies, but what I mean is making a powerful .327 load is not easy. I have nothing but fast powder for .38 Special/9mm and the like, I would max out at 1,100 FPS with a max charge and not 1,400 FPS. It's just not worth it to me to reload it as i'd have to go out and order magnum powder/primers. When I reload target ammo I just use .32 H&R Mag brass and get some nice loads for practice.

I believe that the GP100 size gun holds 7 rounds of .327 Mag, you would think with them now holding 7 of .357 Mag than an 8 shot would be possible as well as a 9 shot in a Redhawk/S&W N frame size gun. I could see a lot of people buying something like that, like a 9 shot Redhawk (as S&W will never make a .327 Mag again).
