T-Mobile Home Internet recently changed its Terms and Conditions for new accounts. Current accounts are not affected and Unlimited Plans are still available for an increased price. No worries. So far so good. Still getting good speed and Uncapped on my Unlimited plan.

Thanks Peter. Good Rundown. I use Verizon 5G Home Internet since I have a tower pointing my way, so it works better for me. I still use T-Mobile Home Internet for my IoT devices that are less secure. Best of both worlds, pretty fast internet and good security. With Autopay, $50/mo for T-Mobile and $60/mo for Verizon. Not a bad deal. Great upload Peter!

I have been with T Mobile home internet as soon as it was available in my area. I am in a rural area and about the only thing available at the time was Hughes Net. I just checked and I am getting 113 download and 10.4 upload. I usually use around 600 gigs a month. That is great for 50 bucks a month in the area I live in. Hughes Net was 90 dollars a month and I was lucky to get 10 download.

Same here as far as rural small town. Had a hard wire connection (Kinetic) that didn't deliver near what I get with T-Mobile for more money . My average has been 100-150 down / 10-15 up. Have not had any regrets.
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 6 месяцев назад
That is a huge improvement. 100/10 is not bad for rural deployments. The number to be is 25/5 which is what you can do with StarLink but then again that costs about $80/mo but if you are in the middle of a national park , its worth it.

I am confused when people say 1.2 TB is a lot. 1.2 TB is a lot for one person but not for a household in my opinion. Is the T-Mobile home internet actually meant to be for only one person?
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 6 месяцев назад
It depends on what you do with it and how long you do it for. If you work from home, you will likely use more but again, it depends on what you do with it. I remote desktop to many different locations all day long. If you work all day and only use the internet for email and streaming 2 hours a day you don't need a lot of bandwidth.

In my area they didn't offer T-mobile for a long time, and I switched my mobile carrier to Verizon because service was bad here. I ended up going with Starlink and I think it's great. Somehow they have outstanding latency numbers comparable to fiber whenever connecting to work and when T-mobile did become available here I tried it out for a week and had to return it. Speeds were in the 70mb/s range at best and latency was double or some times more. At first starlink dropped out a lot but after I mounted it on my roof I've had effectively no down time. Unfortunately rural internet sucks and 5g doesn't carry very well out here, so celular is a good option, but I'll happily pay $90 for over double the speed and no data cap.
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 6 месяцев назад
Thanks. Good data. Rural Internet is indeed different. You need to get a large external directional antenna to get that 600MHz signal. To be fair, StarLink has an external antenna too. You've got to go outside to get a external signal. I have a new unit coming that might offer a cool solution. Stay tuned. What kind of latency are you seeing?

Great video Paul. If T-Mobile stops me from traveling in my RV with their cellular gateway I will be force to looks for some other Internet service. We travel one week out of each month and like watching Netflix several hours every night. Why couldn't just get a cellular sims card for my Laptop and pit it in my own cellular router for alike $20 a month? I already have 2 cell phones with them and the HOme Internet Gateway that may go away unless I'm grandfathered in. What would be a cheap cellular router for my RV?
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 3 месяца назад
Hey Earl, Let's wait and see what happens. T-Mobile Home Internet was designed to sell "excess bandwidth" in markets where they have "excess bandwidth". Now when you lovingly take it on the road, you may be travelling to areas that do not have "excess bandwidth". Watching NetFlix Movies, while quite normal puts a large demand on a phone network that is "stressed". Watching a movie requires a constant connection in addition to a "large" amount of data. Sure, its only a movie, but it is the same data as would be used by 1000 phone users trying to lookup the closest Sushi Restaurant. I am hoping that T-Mobile will realize that they could put datacaps in place and allow partner services like NetFlix, Hulu, Disney, GoogleTv to use their network without impacting customer data plans. THEY HAD THIS BEFORE... it was called "Binge-On" and I could stream like blazes with a prepaid $10/mo account. It was great! If TMobile asked me to cancel my Netflix account and re-signup through them to get unlimited steaming, I would do it! They could own a piece of a very large eco-system in a matter of months and it would be a re-occurring revenue stream that would positively impact their stock price valuation with an 8x multiplier. It's what is possible now with the loss of Net-Neutrality.

@TT_LIFTS
@TT_LIFTS 6 месяцев назад
I already tired that doesn’t work unless you spend money like 200-400 on a external antenna to mount on top of your home or like he said get a different 5g gateway not a T-mobile one that lets you combine 5GHz with 5GHz and you would probably see a major increase and take out the sims card and put it in the new one obviously to get the internet
@TT_LIFTS
@TT_LIFTS 6 месяцев назад
Basically all a 3rd party router does is it provides higher signal through out your home so like if you get bad signal in your bedroom because your gateway is in the kitchen window it will provide your bedroom with better signal and up your speed so it doesn’t slow down but a 3rd party router does have a lot of cool features but it’s better if you just buy an better 5g gateway or a 4x4 external antenna

@PeterC408
@PeterC408 6 месяцев назад
Just to be clear, a 3rd party gateway and a 3rd party router are different. 3rd party gateways can help you get a better signal from T-Mobile, while a 3rd party router (access point) can help you get better WiFi. Personally, I am using both. The location for the best 5G signal and best coverage for WiFi are seldom the same spot.

I have been a long time TMHI customer and supposedly grandfathered in as well for unlimited. However, just got the email notification that we are subject to this new cap. To the comment that 1.2TB shouldn't be a problem with hitting. We are a multiple TV house streaming a good chunk of the day and we typically hit 6TB/mo. Just to have a few 4K TVs streaming throughout the day for 30 days and we are hitting 6TB and 1.2TB is considered more than enough? Seems like they are walking back the promises they made years ago with switch to us as we won't limit you. Switch to us, we have more then enough bandwidth to cover your streaming TV services.
@PeterC408
@PeterC408 3 месяца назад
Interesting... I have received no such notification and I have two T-Mobile Internet accounts. 6TB is a bit much to be believed. Although TV programs represent some data, the are watched over 2 hours. I have to be in heavy download mode to hit 3TB and with help from my kids! but that isn't the issue. As I understand things, T-Mobile is now offering Home Internet for $50/mo (limited to 1.2TB) but if you want UNLIMITED, it is still available but the cost goes up to $60.

@PeterC408
@PeterC408 6 месяцев назад
Think of any resource and you are trying to build a customer base. You would want to get as many customers as possible without pissing people off. I think they should cap it and create tiers of service, anyone selfish enough to need 3TB a month should pay more but my parents who stream the occasional Netflix show pay the same amount, so it balances out.

Im ATT, not for long too expensive for the router $75 & no channels) throttles me at around 2AM-4AM.Yes Im up and it pisses me off that they do it. Nearly nobody is on the network..I should be rockin' at lightning speed. I have had tons of problems with ATT or any other large provider with administrative issues. Example-I signed on with ATT because they had NO contract. Somewhere buried in an email they 'put me on a contract'. When it was time to cut the cord it was a HUGE fight. I knew if I persued, I would win cuz they did not have ANY documents with a signature that I agreed, but it took 4.5 hours on the phone. It was the principle. And still I had to pay $75 a month just for a router. As I write this my blood is boiling. I just the other day went into a Tmobile store to check out the plans for internet..I should have signed up then, I would be grandfathered in. Had I known of the throttle/cap I would have. Fyi-when I did go into the store they also gave Netflix and Hulu as part of the monthly fee which out the door was going to be around $80. Both Hulu and Netflix just had increases soooo IDK not a huge savings its just I hate large providers, their liers, cheats and thieves.

Verizon is great,,,, if it works for you. My neighbor up the street has it and I am amazed at the speed he gets. They tell me that I am out of range (11 houses away). Think of your car in traffic and you hear someone's stereo, what do you hear? you hear bass (the low frequencies). They travel further and pernitrate objects like glass and metal.
