It's curious to see that, after all that, Takeshi Kitano still agreed to appear in Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, whether it was just for the massive amount of money SEGA must have paid him or for the fact the game has several themes found in his movies.

The thing about Peter Dinklage is that he's a show actor. He's meant to be seen on screen, not just heard. I think at this point in his career he relies on his appearance to give himself presence, which is why his reading for the Ghost was so memeable

Rik Mayall gave a great performance for the underrated classic “Hogs of War”. Every voice line in the whole game was him and he showed great range with different accents, personalities and comedy.

Not surprised we didn't see much from DMA after they left Lemmings. Who do they think they are, a bunch of rockstars?

20:33 Shoulda dropped a mention of the other notable game this is true of, Penn & Teller's Smoke And Mirrors. Most of it is made up of parody games and tricks on the player - including the infamous "Desert Bus," the most boring game ever made. And then Smoke and Mirrors wasn't even published! The original publisher went out of business, and no other publisher was willing to pick it up. We only have it today because someone leaked it back in the day. (It also contains one of my favorite lines of all time, after the player picks the 'Impossible' difficulty level and is then immediately killed: "Impossible doesn't mean really difficult. Really difficult is winning a nobel prize. Impossible is eating the sun." So now 'Impossible is eating the sun' is my go-to analogy whenever someone's abusing the word.)

Kinda upset there weren’t any examples of the voice acting in the first bit.

I was recently reminded of The Young Ones when playing Pokémon Shield. I encountered a Chewtle and couldn't shake that it looked so familiar. I kept looking up stuff like "clown in overalls", "orange haired clown" and so on. Then finally I looked up something like "character with stars on his head" and there was the punk guy.

I knew about most of these but the Takeshi one still amazes me. I also had no idea the people behind Sesame Street wanted to make a licenced property out of Lemmings.

The problem Willis and Dinklage had is common for actors primarily or solely accustomed to performing on set; video game voice recording is often done in an isolated booth with nothing to react to but the script; it can be an awkward and even rough transition. In the worst cases, the vacuum is to the level of the actor only having their character's lines without so much as an annotation to indicate the desired delivery. Lazy or otherwise-unhelpful voice directors can also cause trouble.

There was that one instance where Escape From Butcher Bay's stealth focus was credited to Vin Diesel himself, who thought it was a cooler idea than making it a typical FPS and turns out he was right, who knew?

My reaction during this video... "There was a Young Ones game?!?! Alright! Wait a minute..." (remembers the video title) "Damn."

It's funny that Larry brought up True Lies as a good Arnie game, because that's one of the games I had a blast playing as a kid. I knew nothing of the movie, but I knew Arnold well enough thanks to Terminator that it caught my interest in wanting to play it.

I was so pleased and excited to see Takeshi's Challenge on here; I regularly rewatch DeceasedCrab's full playthrough of the game (which only takes five episodes, primarily because he knows how to beat the game and uses savestates because anything less would be unreasonably masochistic) every few months. It's just such a wild ride. Highlights of the game include: - You hear that peppy little music track playing during the intro of the Takeshi's Challenge bit on this video? That's the only music in the game. On loop. The whole track is about 30 seconds long, maybe. It NEVER changes - not even on the hang-glider part, I don't think. You either get that or, when waiting for the map, silence. (Somehow, though, honestly? The song is still catchy.) - That end quote from Takeshi about not taking the game seriously takes maybe five solid minutes of sitting on the end screen before it shows up. You hit the end screen, Takeshi says "good job!", and that's it. Then you have to sit for five solid minutes or so, waiting for him to say the other thing(which you will, because even being insulted is somehow more fulfilling an ending than just "good job!"). - The karaoke section requires you to press buttons in time with the song. There is no indication of whether you're doing it right. You have to do it three times in a row. If you screw up, you have to do it all over again from the first song. - There is ZERO guidance on what you need to do to succeed in the game. Like, I cannot begin to tell you how little. You have to know to buy language and shamisen lessons, and also acquire a shamisen, before you go on the treasure hunt in the second half of the game. Nothing in the game tells you that these things are required. Finding the treasure requires you to crouch on completely unremarkable sections of ground MULTIPLE TIMES. Literally the only way to beat Takeshi's Challenge is to ALREADY KNOW how to beat Takeshi's Challenge. Larry wasn't kidding about people making money on the help lines at all.

I quite liked Peter Dinklages version of Ghost, I think it made sense having the AI read his lines without emotion, because why would it? Even without emotion I think it gave the game a lot more personality than Nolan North's unmemorable performance (not because it's bad, but because it's just like anything else).

And then Takeshi Kitano appeared in the Yakuza series, which are games all about getting drunk, singing karaoke, going to arcades, running stupid errands and getting in fistfights.

Quick side note: Takeshi is known by some as “Vic Romano” from the TV show called Most Extreme Elimination Challenge, or MXC for short. MXC was a comedy/parody show put on by Spike TV, which took the video from Takeshi’s Castle (licensed, of course), and dubbed in comedic audio, a-la What’s Up Tigerlilly. Toward the end of MXC’s run, they even got Takeshi to come on the show and join in on things.

I can understand the reason behind Arnie’s reasoning behind the change to the Last Action Hero game. At that point he had transitioned into more family friendly movies. Last Action Hero for being a parody of the 80’s over the top action genre was pretty tame as it too was geared to families. I guess he felt since the movie was a family film the game shouldn’t have excessive gun violence. Where that logic breaks down though is the fact that games at that point were not realistic so they tended to make the violence cartoony which made it palatable to younger audience so I don’t think there was a large risk of the game offending parents with cartoony shooting action.

Takeshi's Challenge just screams "AVGN review."

Thankfully, Beat Takeshi's other gaming-related endeavors weren't so poor--having recently starred in Yakuza 6 as one of the two main villains. Just like all the other main and recurring cast's performances, his shines even through the language barrier.

Lousy voice acting from a big star ruining a character is one of the reasons why many consider the playable character Rust from Payday 2 to be just simply shit. Ron Perlman gave zero shits when voicing that character and later just straight up said he only did it for the money when asked why he was in it.

Fred Durst appeared in WWF (or WWE) Raw” (2001) for the XBox and “WWF SmackDown! Just Bring It” for PlayStation 2 as a deal to use the Rollin’ theme for the Undertaker. However, The Rollin’ Theme would be reused in “WWE WrestleMania X8” for the GameCube and Durst was not in that game. It would also be used in WWE 2K17, 2K18, and 2K19 and again no sign of Durst.

It absolutely infuriates me how they associate violence only with guns. Yeah, you can't kill someone with swords (but it's a hero's weapon!) martial arts or plain simple bludgeoning with something heavy, oh no.

Fred Durst appearing in wrestling games only happened because The Undertaker used a Limp Bizkit song in the late 90s and early 2000s for his entrance and Freddie only agreed to let WWF/WWE to use his song in video games if he was made a playable character. Same deal with Fight Club the video game.
