MAKE SURE YOU USE A 12V TO 5V MINI BUCK CONVERTER OR RESISTOR ON 5V LIGHT STRANDS. Here is a quick video on how to make an rgb color changing bluetooth cellphone controllable rgb speedometer in your chevy tahoe silverado gmc yukon sierra . Acousti works with honda toyota nissan and other vehicles. Not my best video but you get the idea.

The best way to do any mod stuff on your own car is to get the identical part at the scrapyard, and do it on that. If it works, swap it in. If not, return it for a refund! LOL

Only issue is these clusters are VIN locked
@fun_ghoul
@fun_ghoul Год назад
@@turneynicholas I didn't specifically know that about these clusters, but nothing is truly "locked". I presume the state of the art demands that a chip be swapped or cloned from old cluster to new. Hell, kids are stealing new cars with laptops plugged in the OBD port now! Lol

Have you thought about using WS2815 they should run at 12 volt without a buck converter unless I am mistaken.

Is there a way to integrate the lights along the top of the cluster; abs, brake, etc. could you theoretically wire them to the switched power off the cluster pcb, and only include them in the series of leds when power is supplied through the cluster.

can you please put the pin numbers for the positive and ground for the instrument panel?

This isn't as important for fatter clips made of softer plastic like on clusters, but on clocks, MIDs, climate control panels and the like, it's good to slide something under the tab that's _just_ thick enough to disengage it. Even when trying to finesse them, I've broken several tabs on clocks opening them by hand. I usually use a straight o-ring pick, or if I can't find that, an appropriately-sized screwdriver (e.g. #0 Phillips).

I got the same lights and the same controller you did but mine doesnt work. The lights light up but they are different colors and the bluetooth controller wont change anything. Any idea why not?

I just did this to my truck and wired up a buck converter for everything to work. Flawless! I also placed 3mm cool white LED's on each stepper motor to better illuminate each needle... worked out well. One problem I have is that when starting the truck after sitting for a period of time the lights will revert to red, and i'll have to open the app and reset the color. This is extremely frustrating as i have to do it nearly every time i drive the truck. I'm assuming this is because there is a voltage drop while the cluster is turning on which is "tripping" the sp105e. Power and ground are wired into the instrument cluster dimming supply voltage and ground. Any ideas as to why this is happening?
@jackmeyers2911

Might be your controller. I've done a few and one controller out of the bunch did exactly that. The rest kept the last color in memory. It was just that one that wouldn't.
@andrewwarren8789
@andrewwarren8789 4 года назад
@@jackmeyers2911 Interesting - that could be it. My alternative would be to wire a constant 12v to the controller, which I would prefer not to do. Might be worth another $15

@@andrewwarren8789 yea I'm using a completely different unit these days. It has a built in mic SSI you can set it to strobe with the music, has a remote and bt link for your phone and an output for another stand. It's pretty cool when the underdash changes with the cluster.

Jack I tried this but instead of getting the SP105E I got the SP110E, the Pixels are 5V and on your test bench you were running 12V and almost 5A and it worked. I tried 12V off the vehicle and burned all my Pixels. Does the SP105E have a regulator built in of some sort?
@FixedUntilBroken
@FixedUntilBroken 5 лет назад
No the sp105E does not have a voltage regulator. you will need to buy a buck converter to make this work. I think he just forgot to show that.
@docfischer7291
@docfischer7291 Год назад
So with the buck converter will these also have a dimming option ? I’m looking at replacing regular bulbs internally on analog gauges with RGB lights but would like them to dim.

@@docfischer7291 no, the rgb controller has a dimming option already.

Is there any reason you couldn't put an extra bulb where you said the Diesel has one? I presume the traces are on the board for it, right?
@fun_ghoul
@fun_ghoul 5 лет назад
I've always had this fascination with different versions of PCBs (esp. motherboards), and the idea that you could "add features" by just soldering them onto the board. Not always true of mobos, of course, but certainly applicable to some things. I first got on this trip when Doctorbass showed us on Endless Sphere that you could upgrade a 250W Bionx kit to 500W by adding MOSFETs where the factory would have put them (Bionx still sux, tho).
@jackmeyers2911
@jackmeyers2911 5 лет назад
@@fun_ghoul yea you can add the extra bulb. Its kind of weird. Some of the non hd cluster ive repaired actually have the extra bulb. I guess it's juat gm decided to do that day. Lol

how do you tie into the cluster lighting circuit at 12v and then go to a 5v led string without smoking them? I thought you couldn't supply 12v to the 5 volt leds. Is that controller stepping down the voltage for you?
@jackmeyers2911
@jackmeyers2911 5 лет назад
You're absolutley right. I'm so glad you brought that up. I actually edited the video because i forgot that step and uploaded the original. I'm going to have to delete this and reupload it. I guess i should watch the entire video. I used a micro buck converter covered with 4 to 1 heat shrink tubing in the correct video i thought I uploaded. You can also use an lm7805 . I prefer the buck because its small, easy to wire and easily handles the 450ma draw with zero heat dissapation. They are about $1.50. Thank you for pointing that out. I'm going repost this asap

The box for the LEDs says "5-24V" right on it, so...yeah.
@FixedUntilBroken
@FixedUntilBroken 5 лет назад
@@fun_ghoul the SP105E does not have a voltage regulator IT is just capable of controlling lights from 5 volts to 24 volts. As jack meyers said you have to use a buck converter. I've done this build a couple of time one note is to be sure you use a decent buck. I had a cheap one off of amazon fry this setup once before.
