Talia al Ghul That iconic sword scene is one of the many reasons why no one will ever be able to convince me that Temple of Doom is a prequel. Because the scene in Temple, in which Indy tried to pull his gun only to realize it wasn’t in his holster, was a callback to Raiders. “But the title cards at the start-“ I don’t care! I stand by my theory that George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg’s crew accidentally put the wrong date on Temple and, rather than admit the mistake, they just began passing it off as a prequel! Um...... Sorry. I was having way too much fun debunking this in the comments of Rob Walker’s FanScription video on Channel Awesome. 💚😂😂💚
CORRECT. It was as true in 1981 as it is today. I was 11 at the time. I still try to watch about twice a year, and am always blown away. SO many imitators, nothing comes close
@Neil Brown I use traditional grammar & meaning. I've rejected the bad = good, sick = wonderful jargon of today. The traditional meanings have been around for decades/centuries so today's here today, - gone tomorrow jargon isn't worth learning. IMHO.
Few corrections. Tanzania = Tunisia. Telescope = Periscope. Das Boat = Das Boot. Also, I remember seeing the original theatrical release when I was a kid and Indiana Jones riding the periscope was included in that release. I was confused when I finally got to watch it at home on VHS tape and saw that that scene was removed from the movie. I never understood why they removed that few seconds of footage for the VHS release.
Another masterpiece by John Williams. This guy never gets enough credit for his work. I swear without Williams alot of these movies wouldn't have had such an impact on the masses.
He played the German mechanic fighting Indy in the scene next to the airplane shown in the video. He also played one of the sherpas in the scene at Marion's bar, an (IIRC) a German soldier at the submarine base.
True, but Devito's character in "Romancing The Stone" was a lot more like Beloq than Salah He was more like Salah in the sequel "The Jewel Of The Nile"
Minty missed a GOLDEN opportunity he should've started with his sunglasses on, but then take them off. And when he did, looking into his eyes should've had the same effect of staring into the Ark of the Covenant
Thank You, Im laid off and depressed these videos cheer me up. Im in Los Angeles and fearmongering is whats doing it here. Glad to see something nonpolitical and cheerful.
@@1pcfred Im not a actor but was a extra in a few movies Escape From LA was one, but extra work pay is horrid. I make drill bits for high end industrial use.
I’m 45 years old now. When I was growing up in the 80’s and 90’s, Indiana Jones was my hero hands down. Much like some youngsters like the Avengers now. I played the Atari game over and over. I had the Marvel comics for TOD and LC. And I watched the young Indiana Jones series that came out around ‘89 or ‘90.
I was to young to be allowed into the theatre for this one. I could see it a few years later on a Video 2000 rental (machine+tape) for my birthday. I will never forget it! Raiders of the lost Ark was the first rental movie i ever saw! The last crusade i finally could see in the theatre.
Raiders of the Lost Ark is definitely one of the best movies ever made. It's a true masterpiece. This is also one of your best review videos. Well done! Please keep the outstanding videos coming and God bless you, my friend!
I absolutely love this movie! Raiders is truly astonishing! It is an amazing epic adventure! I’m so glad I finally saw it in 2015 after renting it from my local library. Wonderful to learn a lot of the movie’s hidden secrets!
It’s a great scene. Also great to here the story behind it where Ford and the other guy (swordsman) decided to do it as a joke. Worked out so well they kept it.
@@daveadams4402 wasn't it because cast and crew had dysentery and Ford had already shot several big brawls and was just like " can't we just shoot the son of a bitch "
7:10 - The guy holding the sword was also sick this day. He wasn't able to move the sword fast enough to make an action scene look believable so they wrote in the gun bit and moved on.
I think Tom Selleck could have pulled off the role of Indianna Jones, but let's face it, Harrison Ford OWNS that role. Which shouldn't be too surprising, since Harrison Ford always seems to bring that something extra to his roles that makes him really stand out.
Yeah Ford was the better choice, but Selleck wouldn't have been too bad in it either. He made several Indy-inspired movies in the 80s., that were .. well at least not completely horrible. The 2 Quatermain movies with Richard Chamberlain were of course rip offs too, but pretty decent and well scripted.
Interesting. Though I don’t know much about the Jaws deleted scenes as much as Raiders. What was the deleted scene from the early screening of Jaws that was cut from the final release?
@@hunterolaughlin There have been some parts of Chief Brody walking through town that aren't shown any more as they were edited out after the initial release. That's what I remember being missing the most. Others tell me that parts of the boat flotilla going to sea have been cut out as well.
This movie came out when I was 13 years old. It was the first movie I went to see by myself. It was an awesome film one it was over before you knew it. On the seat thrills with well timed laughs. A very iconic film that still holds up in todays filims. On a side note I watched the the remake Minty referred to. It is quite impressive considering that much of the movie was on a shoestring budget (If it even had a budget at all). The airfield scene was the last to be filmed for the remake. story has it that Spielberg was told of the project and was impressed enough with footage, he arranged to have the actual plane used in Raiders for the remake. I believe it is available on youtube to view.
That whole scene where Indy shoots the swordsman was actually impromptu. They were at an impasse, had been trying things for 2 weeks but nothing looked right, as stated he was sick and when rolling, he really did just pull his gun with an ‘f’ it attitude, and shot the dude.
@peachflovoured ah i see what you did flipped it around ! an historic moment in Minty reviews >>> Minty without the shades ; that 's how special INDIANA JONES is to him ! CHEERS!
Minty, you missed a GOLDEN opportunity you should've started with your sunglasses, but then take them off. And when you did, looking into your eyes should've had the same effect of staring into the Ark of the Covenant
lifeless eyes, black eyes, like a doll's eyes. When he comes at ya, doesn't seem to be livin'... until he bites ya. And those black eyes roll over white
Bonus fact: John Williams came up with two themes for Indiana Jones and when Spielberg heard them, he asked Williams to combine them into one longer theme. So basically there's part A theme and part B theme that we all know now.
Wow, the Indy outfit really works for you! One of my favorite movies of all time, love Indy, love Harrison, love these videos. Keep up the great work you do, Minty!
Lucas' husky inspired two awesome characters didn't it? Indiana Jones and also Chewbacca. The dog made Lucas want to have a huge fluffy character in star wars. And that character ended up becoming Chewie. Or so I heard.
DL Lambert: Could not agree more. I always thought Last Crusade was the perfect ending. Revisiting the series after so much time had passed, using so much CGI, and changing many of the basic storytelling elements made the fourth film feel so disconnected. Wrong. Saw it once and I wish I hadn’t. Don’t plan on seeing the next one if they make it.
This video is the reason why I've seen Raiders of the Lost Ark: The Adaptation. Thank you Minty for mentioning it. Without it, well, I've probably would've been too obscure to me.
A timeless movie! It never feels dated whenever I watch it. Heck, I used to dress up as Indy frequently when I was a kid! Lol. And, if that theme song doesn't inspire you to get off your ass and seek adventure in your life you need serious help.
Around mid 60's when I was a kid, I used to wear a suit, tie, and well polished dress shoes and pretend I was an International Spy and pretended I was in Europe in my neighborhood on a secret mission. (In which case there are lot of old homes that were built by Italian Stone Masons back in the 20's, 30's and 40's. An old working class family neighborhood. Now these old homes are in the million dollar range.)
@@jcbvortex22 jaws was the very first blockbuster even then Star Wars. Lucas wanted Spielberg to direct the original trilogy. But shit happens so he has Spielberg do the Indy movies
Minty ,you forgot to say that Raiders was the first film to be released on VHS to go straight to sell through . Remember going to wh Smith's in England and paying £40 for a copy
@@tempestfury8324 I remember when shows started coming out on dvd they were costly too. Star Trek TNG costed $100 a season, now I can buy the whole series for less than $100.
Another great and interesting bid. Also thank you for giving the correct title. So tired of seeing Indians Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, NOO!!
Shen Loony - It was retitled with the ‘Indiana Jones’ prefix on subsequent rereleases after the successes of the sequels, which both had the ‘Indiana Jones’ prefix in their titles.
The actor that Indiana fights with the German plane mechanic is a British actor Pat Roach who plays a British bricklayer in Germany in the British TV series auf, wiedersehen in the 80s and 90s.
No Glasses ? show em off ya star ! What a classic movie ! I remember my mum taking me to see it at Hamilton Odeon, sadly long gone, got replaced by a big box VUE in a retail park.
Minty, you missed a GOLDEN opportunity you should've started with your sunglasses, but then take them off. And when you did, looking into your eyes should've had the same effect of staring into the Ark of the Covenant
It's also worth noting that the actor that Harrison Ford was fighting when he tore his acl, is English actor and wrestler Pat Roach, who also appeared as a different character earlier in the film (one of the thugs who fights Indy in Marion's Bar in Tibet). He also appeared in "Temple of doom" as the...well...thug who fights Indy and is dragged into the rock crusher, as well as a member of the Gestapo in "The last crusade" (the scene where he gets knocked out by Indy was deleted from last crusade).
I still remember seeing this classic in the theatre when I was a kid. I used to have several issues of the Indiana Jones comic books. Great stuff I even played the Atari game as well. Graphics weren't great but it was a challenging adventure
Anyone who DID purchase those Indy toys got themselves quite an investment, though. Of course, they'd have to be in good shape. A friend of mine had a few them--plus, some Tron action figures. I always assumed his parents were rich.
Steranko's 60s Nick Fury Agent of Shield was an incredible stroke of genius. Unfortunately we'll never see something like that again. (Same with the incredible art of Neal Adams).
I still remember the summer of 1981 as a kid, it'll always be one of my fondest memories with films like; Raiders of The Lost Ark, Superman II, Cannonball Run, Clash Of The Titans, Excalibur and the Robin Williams Popeye film all coming out that year! Back when families and large groups of people went to the cinemas on Saturdays, long ago when people still smoked cigarettes and cigars in theaters. The fun times when we had massive lines outside cinemas, before the big multiplexes killed that off etc's.
