I was given the opportunity to get several oak logs the only problem is they are much larger than I ever intended on getting.

I paused this to go and make myself a drink. I thought this is going to be entertaining and I was correct. I could also see your heart coming out of your chest. But hey, you learn what you can and can't. Kudos my friend. Stay safe....

Like everyone else, when that log slammed down my heart was beating fast. Those two logs looked amazing and going to give you some real nice lumber. I'm getting more excited about you getting that sawmill.

You do great work. One bit.. you want to make some stabilizers for that dump trailer rear. You were making me awful nervous leaning over the front of that trailer with all the unsupported weight on the back end. The trailer popping off the ball is an intense event. Think telescopic arm at each corner to the ground for the stabilizer. Keep it up though. You have great disposition for these style of videos

I don’t think you can buy them that way, I built my log arch.
@landstormer4884

The average log you’ll grab with that trailer should handle it just fine seeing how it handled the 37” log. Nice work.

You had me a little nervous with that one but your winch system worked great. Please be careful and check your cable before each lift. God Bless, Daryl

I was a little nervous too. It was a LOT more intense in person! I will make sure to keep checking the cable, mostly because I’m looking for an excuse to buy synthetic, lol

Is there a way to lower the log before the arch reaches the apex of its arc and falls? Check out Matt Cremona's you tube channel. He has a similar self built rig and I haven't seen his logs fall so violently. A jolt like that will break the suspension and put a lot of stress on the truck's transmission when it pushes it forward, if you're not careful
@shaweehillsworkshop4226
@shaweehillsworkshop4226 3 года назад
There is definitely a learning curve. If you watch Matt’s earlier videos he had similar drops. He has gotten better at know how much length leave in the chain and how many times to rebook the arch. So far I have loaded 5 more since the first on on the video and the last two went a lot easier and less violent. Matt has the advantage of having a lower trailer too, having the higher bed makes it harder for me, to combat that I have since been raising the dump portion about 20 degrees which has made a huge difference.

How did you even estimate what that log weighed? Did you go by a weigh station?

I have log weight charts, you measure the diameter at both ends and the length and species

Like your videos. Music is unnecessary in my opinion mostly because music is subjective. I like the length. Most content providers aim for 10 minutes or longer even if it's not justified

You need to get yourself some braces for the rear of your trailer
@disenfranchisedcitizen1432
@disenfranchisedcitizen1432 Год назад
A log that large you really should chock your truck and trailer tires as well as apply the emergency brake or you’re gonna thrash your transmission. 😳. Also maybe look into getting rear jackstands for the trailer if it has the pockets.
