When men were men, women were women, cars were cars, and America was America... Pontiac did so many cool things, like the Eight Lugs and that Lucite steering wheel. My Dad had a '70 LTD, and the first time I saw the high beam indicator, I said "look at the king's hat."
I can remember going to a Pontiac dealership with my Uncle in 1962 and seeing a car exactly like this one sitting on the showroom floor. The American Dream on four gorgeous 8-lug wheels!
Could be the finest example of this car anywhere. My dad sold Pontiacs and had a '62 Bonney. This car pushed all the right buttons for me. Gr8 post - thank you!
Great car! We had a '62 Grand Prix 2 door hardtop for many years. My Dad got one in '81 and restored it during my highschool years. Had 389 Tri-Power, Borg-Warner T-10 4-speed, 8-lug aluminum wheels, power windows. For a big car it was pretty quick too. Loved Pontiac's ever since. Thanks for showing the Grand Prix some well deserved love my friend, Semper Fidelis!
Nice car....Pontiac was dying in the 50s. It was called and old man's car. In the late 50s when I was still a tyke, neighbors up the street had a gray and white 55' Pontiac. They were an old couple. My father at the time a WW2 vet and still a young man had a 55' Olds Rocket 88 2 door H/T. Now that was a 50's bad ass classic. Please do a review on one.
Mike is one of my car buddies. I can vouch for the fact that this is one awesome GP. It’s as perfect underneath as it is on top. As nice as it is Mike does suffer from GTO envy.
i bought a 62 grand prix in 1967 for $1200.00 and had it till 1978, how stupid i was to sell it, 389 348 hp wide ratio 4 speed 3.23 rear gears, my all time favorite car. areal sleeper.
A friend had a baby blue on blue '62 GP, 389 tri-power, 4 spd with 8 lugs. I had the pleasure of driving it. Would have traded my '72 GTO in a heartbeat.
Stunningly pretty car. That Tri Power / 4-speed setup was 'set you back in the seat' power in the '64 GTO. I kept waiting for this guy to get in its ass even a little, but oh well, ... I guess the Chief Pontiac high-beam indicator was pretty breath-taking, 👀 ...
My dad bought a 62 Catalina new in January 1962. He had dealer (or factory) installed seatbelts (front only) and always insisted everyone wear them. Formed a good habit for me ever since. Our car was all brown, inside and out. It went to the junkyard in 1970, and I've missed it ever since.
WOW, This has about everything a 1966 GTO 4-speed has 4 years earlier! It doesn't look all that much larger than 1966 GTO or heavier! Thanks for restoring and showing it!
@@musclecarcampy9922 That's big! I don't understand why this trim of car didn't remain popular. It seems like it did a lot of performance characteristics very well for its day with a large interior to hold your friends or family.
I think this car is beatiful. Duringt the 90s, In my mid twenties, I remember seeing one of these, of course at the time I did not know what it was, and did not catch up with it to find out. All I remember is the unique tail-light treatmemt.
This 62 is beautiful! Have you ever done a 69 Grand Prix ? When i was a kid in 69 a girl i went to school with brother had a 69 with a 455 with 3 duces, and a 4 speed. It was maroon with a black vinyl top, and black interior. Would really be cool if you did an episode on one of those absolutely WICKED Pontiacs. Really like you're RU-vid channel! PEACE ✌️
Around 40 years ago I had a 62 GP faded red paint with white or maybe it was called parchment interior it had been repowered with a Pontiac 400 and the latter model tri power it also had a 4 speed and a rusted frame if you shifted aggressively the lower control arm for the rear end would poke through the rear floor board
Yeah, it was a SAD day when GM deleted the Pontiac Motor Division. My wife and I bought a brand new 2004 Grand Am GT 2 door coupe with the ram air - drop it down a gear on the highway and punch it and it will FLY!! We still have it and it runs GREAT!!
I had a 63 GP. .I liked the front end horizontal headlights better of the 62. But the 63 almost hidden tail lights were much sportier. Mine was like a GM midnight blue with blue interior. The sport lux interior on these were state of the art in their time. Mine was a 389 automatic. It could really burn a lot of rubber because it was so darn heavy. It was simply too heavy to be considered fast. The 421 Bonnies were fairly fast for their time.
My friend's father had one back then and he would let us take it out for a ride and it was hot hot hot I really had a great time riding in that car as a kid and it had Wheels smoking power that's one of the first cars I ever got to drive that had wheel power
I almost bought this car, before I went into the military, only 500 bucks! Since I was inlisting in the military I thought it would be better to keep the car I already had.
Pontiac had not yet stacked the headlights and I like this look very much - not stacked - and the '64 GTO would also adopt this look for one year only. Overall, this car is truly special and Pontiac leaders in the new muscle car market. Thanks for video 👍
Where is this pontiac club located in Florida I visit Florida for 6 months out of the year and would love to come to there car meets I have a 64 Gto. Thanks so much
Thanks.. interestingly, the 62 CATALINA SD 421=, had Automatics ( Four speed in Drags??,& Lake pipes, we heard)…? The CATALINA SD421 , was what really piqued my interest in Summer 1962 , at my local Service Station hang OUT…….supposedly coming from US30 DRAG Strip INDIANA, ETC. DEFINITELY HAD DRAG PIPES,ETC.
