#KevinMitchell #Barehanded #1989WorldSeries #Earthquake #MVP
33 Years ago today, Kevin Mitchell made an unbelievable barehanded catch. He then proceeded to have a top 5 season in NL history, winning MVP and leading the San Francisco Giants to the 1989 World Series against the Oakland A's. This series was memorable for the earthquake a few minutes before the start of Game 3.

It took way too long to edit for the result, but I think it breaks up the video a little bit and shows off how good Kevin was. He homered against every NL team that year btw.

Thank you for this… I am subscribed. You do a nice job. This piece especially meant a lot to me… The earthquake, I’m glad you pointed out the odds of it happening with both bay area teams playing. Just a few minutes after the broadcast started. I know people who are apprehensive about California because of earthquake possibilities. Here it was broadcast to the whole world. We were calling it BAYSBALL. I split a season-ticket package with another guy so had first crack at World Series tickets. I wasn’t there for the earthquake… Game three. It was my turn to go for game four when the A’s clinched. I remember a lot of empty seats… And there was no vibe… We were still all pretty shaken. Kevin Mitchell meant a lot to us giant fans… 1989 was special!

I was 7 years old living in Chicago during that ‘89 series. Bc the games that were played in SF started around 9PM Central time, they were past my bedtime. I dragged my pillow and blanket to the top of the stairs, and listened to the games while my parents watched on TV downstairs. Apparently I had fallen asleep during one of them, bc I remember getting woken up by my dad (Senior Chief in the Navy) being pissed off that I wasn’t in bed. Then my mom said: “Babe, the Cubs are in the pennant”. Mom was such a bro at that moment. Also Fuck Will Clark.

Outside of Clark and Mitchell in '89, it feels like the three never aligned and were great all at once. Their pitching also really collapsed after Dravecky's cancer ended his career.

The fact that he made it back to the big league mound at all after the first surgery was incredible, even though that was short lived and he needed his arm amputated.

You’re putting some really nice videos together and hope you start seeing some growth and views. The videos are worth it, and I’m subscribing. I’m not a creator trying to get off the ground, so I don’t have to play the game. I know why you’re using them, but I hope you move away from the clickbait titles as soon as you can. Kevin Mitchell was not remotely considered a villain, let alone the biggest in baseball. The debauchery of that Mets team is the stuff legend, and your line about how much coke they used was classic, but most people forget Mitchell was on it. He’s entirely remembered for being a Giant. It’s also hard to think of few plays more well known than that catch. RU-vidrs try to recreate it and is a top searched highlight according to MLB to this day. Thing is, despite the misleading titles, I enjoyed both videos immensely. I hope the content is what ultimately gets you the views you deserve!

Yeah, it’s definitely heavy hyperbole. Still glad you liked the vids!

@@AndThatsBaseball You have a gift. You’ll look back at your early videos in a year or two and be embarrassed because of how much better you’ve become as a storyteller, but don’t judge yourself negatively then. I can tell you your videos are already more informative, and more in depth, (let alone the huge hours of edits visible) than guys much older, who have been doing it much longer. Sincerely. I look forward future videos, but remember the purest and most beautiful color on Earth is Dodger Blue. Just ask David Cone. Since you’re a Mets fan, he might write an article on Dodger Blue for you. 😜

There’s a few reasons. A.) It’s the celebration of the birth of the country and they’re playing in the neighboring country. B.) Canada didn’t really *gain* independence from Britain, Britain just gave it independence. I mean it’s still part of the Commonwealth. C.) Montreal is in Quebec, and Quebec is infamous for hating British rule and wanting independence, and using French as their main language in spite of Canada and Britain.
