#KevinMitchell #1986Mets #1986WorldSeries #BillBuckner #Game6
Kevin Mitchell and the 1986 Mets were a perfect match. As a rookie, Mitchell helped the '86 Mets win a World Series as a part of one of the most clutch innings ever during Game 6. But after the World Series, he never played for the Mets again. Kevin Mitchell was the perfect baseball villain, but not because he was a bad guy.

I was 14 years old at Shea Stadium for Game 6 (and 7) in 1986. When Stanley threw the wild pitch, the stadium was shaking so much I thought it might collapse. And everyone in the park KNEW the Mets would win as soon as the ball got past Gedman
@AndThatsBaseball
@AndThatsBaseball Год назад
It really is unfair what Buckner had to go through after that game. They already choked before that play, his misplay just sealed the deal.
@LiveFromThePorcelainPalace
@LiveFromThePorcelainPalace Год назад
@@AndThatsBaseball I agree. Buckner was a really good player. Not a Hall of Famer, but firmly in the "Hall of the Very Good" And once that Mets team tied the game, there was no way they were going to lose it. Even if Mookie struck out to end the inning. The Mets were winning that game. That Met team had a killer instinct. If you gave them the opportunity they'd go straight for the jugular.

@bradhorowitz2765
@bradhorowitz2765 2 года назад
you know popular opinions i think are often very wrong. Mitchell, from your video, had a rough upbringing, a rags to riches life, sure he was aggressive but it could have been worse and he seems to be a nice guy. but nope, everyone exaggerated his life. we NEED a villain, and mitchell unfairly got that role. and it begs the question, how much was it due to racism. doc and darryl mention some of the stuff they faced in interviews, and then lenny Dykstra has been allowed to stay in baseball depsite his worse character.
@AndThatsBaseball
@AndThatsBaseball 2 года назад
1000%, that’s kind of why I wanted to make this series. Mitchell was a scapegoat on more than one of his teams. Sometimes he wasn’t the best teammate or the hardest worker, but based on all the research I’ve done, he’s a good guy who found a way to be great even tho he originated in an incredibly difficult spot. Sports writers need villains, and he ended up being one, probably because of racism and assumptions, and I’ll dig into that more in part 2.
