Hello, one and all! We are happy to show the first installment of our Infiniti Q50 front bumper conversion from a regular model to a sports model. Why do you ask? Because it's cool! Also, our customer paid us to paint him a Q50 sport model instead of the regular base model. The difference is subtle but very noticeable. The "sport" bumper is a bit more aggressive on the lower lip and has different fog lights. That is pretty much it, it just looks like it can go faster, hah! In all honesty, the last video of this series is the "REAL" bumper swap video. But you have to take off your old one first, so let's get started.
TOOLS NEEDED:
Socket wrench with 10mm socket, flat head screwdriver and, or panel clip removal tool.
REMOVAL PROCESS:
Say what you will about Japanese cars but they really stay consistent with the different size bolts. Let's get started!
It is always the best idea to start on the bottom of the bumper. Removing the bolts and clips from the bottom engine guard or splash shield. You can always remove them last but if your car is super janky, the bumper could fall on you. While the bumper is not heavy, you don't want the fog light wires to tear or break. From there we have to detach the fender liner from the bumper itself. Once you do so, there is a 10mm bolt that secures the bumper to the fender. Remove that bolt on both sides. Now you can move to the top of the bumper. The fancier the car, the more it tends to have. Once you pop the hood, there are metal brackets holding the fender and bumper together. Very easy and simple to do, most cars don't have this bracket and it can be a bit annoying. Those pesky designers tried to make it hard to find. Once both brackets are removed, move onto the radiator cover. There are bolts underneath that hold the top of the bumper to the frame. Now you can remove your bumper starting with the corners first. Work your way around to the middle but do not let the bumper come crashing down. You still have to unplug the fog lights and daytime running lights. You really do not want those plastic plugs to break or the wire harness to be damaged. That is some serious trouble there. Once those are unplugged, you are all done. See, we told you it was easy.
