I was showing my wife this video because I took some pics of the supra at barret jackson, and she said "are you watching the flying duck guy"? I had her leave the room.
While I don't always agree with Mark (especially about S2000's, that car is a total piece of shit, and the GT86 is phenominal), I at least appreciate that he knows more about performance driving than flooring it for a few seconds in 4th gear. So many car youtubers are glorified hype beasts that know nothing about driving.
@@mickwrinkles2318 Every Doug "drive" review: Finds straight section of road, some gear probably higher than it should be for the speed he's going, floors it, "surprised pikachu" face if it's decently fast, makes entire assessment on that one 5 second sprint.
I’d say Doug first and foremost is good at finding quirks and features of the car that other reviewers usually don’t talk about. Then most people would want to see Doug’s opinion on the driving, so Doug does it too. Nice to see his opinion but I’d take the opinions of other RU-vidrs like Engineering Explained or savagegeese more seriously.
Doug's Car Reviews Suck! Nobody gives a crap about a "Doug Score" what qualifies a spoiled rich white nerd who has never turned wrench or turned a lap in real race. I hate Doug DeMuro with every fiber of my being! Without Supra I wouldn't be a Master Driver...
Doug is more like Top Gear...the reviews are not that good, but the entertainment value is. The serious car reviews are just not that entertaining to the majority of society.
"why didn't Toyota just build this on their own, they're a big company" Because the sports car market is not profitable, enthusiasts are the worst customers
Then don't try to overwrite the name of a legend with a bad, saddening memory. That's the worst of corporate stench. (Done a lot in the movie business.)
When Savage uploads a new video I open a fresh bottle of the most expensive Crema Nera Extrema and get ready for 16 minutes of deep thrusting relaxation and firm stress release. My body is ready
Your filming is better than anyone else on youtube, it's incredible. The image quality, the contrast, the stability, the colors, the framing, the angles, it's all really good! And I love that you talk about cars with more track experience and mechanical knowledge than most youtubers. Could you film more old cars though, like old shcool miatas and BMWs? I would love to hear how these cars compare to modern day models. But really, thanks for the content you already produce, it's so special!
@@godofdestructiondiecast6756 Yeah, fuck this BMW inginuity, they make some of the worst sports cars ever made and have the worst racing pedigree of any car manufacturer. /s
Finally a review of the new Supra, I thought nobody cared about this car! Just kidding I’ve avoided all the other youtubers “reviews” and waited for savagegeese to do a real one. Thanks for putting in the effort to make a decent review sir.
Should check Matts from The Smoking Tire review..it says basically this but in his own lingo, and I really like that these 2 youtubers I respect the most have come to the same conclusion, it tells alot about the Supra
I watched some other reviews, but I believe them to be clouded with bias either for or against the Supra. What I love about your channel is that you are able to see cars for what they are and tell us truthfully in a respectful manner. If I were to buy a new car within the next few years, it will be this Supra. I believe they will hold their value extremely well and I believe that they will be a great car to have. In an age where cars are getting less aggressively styled etc. I like that the Supra has aggressive styling and the ability to add aftermarket parts. Keep up the good work.
Awesome review. Best car reviewer. So much thought and detail goes into the reviews, from research, to content to video shoot, to background music, humor. Etc... Always well put together.
Ultra DMX Doug is good. Who is better will depend on what you are looking for. For me I value detail and production quality. Geese is objectively best in both categories. For detail, he usually goes into way more depth than any other car reviewer. He puts vehicles on lifts and breaks down all the mechanicals. He also brings inside information from talking to car company reps and designers. In terms of production quality, he’s way better than Doug. Geese uses close up stabilizer shots, to cinematic drone footage. He knows about composing a shot, and proper lighting. Anyways, objectively Geese goes into the most detail while having very high production quality.
I do agreeThat there’s a lot talking about the car and Not enough real impressions. Engineering Explained Is a good channel that talked about his impressions while on the Track. I was so excited when the new supra came out but it will be a while before I step my yes or no answer on is it a real super
@Jonathan Bowen Ken Philpot omega lul, Jesus is just as real as me and you, Christianity is nothing to play with. I'm not here to tell you what to believe in, but I can assure you he is more real than you think.
I worked for a truck OEM out of college and have worked on cars as well. Your explanations of systems, drivability and their effects are both understandable and intelligent. Your video production is compelling and fun to view. Great work!
Car reviewers and journalists: I like this car. 17-year-old Tokyo Drift fanatics with vape pens and slammed Civics with 270,000 miles and Check Engine lights who also think the Acura and Honda Integra are two completely different cars: *It's just a BMW Z4. Fuck this car. I'm not buying it.*
Same. I can see a transmission cooler and oil cooler and removal of all those vents being "must" mods if you want this thing to actually last. I also see the stealerships slapping on a hefty markup for the first 6-18 months
@gilbert martinez - lol It's not that bad. It's kinda growing on me too but it doesn't matter I'll never own one, I'm more of a Honda guy. I know Honda will never be too scared to build their own car.
This guy is one of the few car journalists who doesn't talk shit. Really enjoy the reviews. BMW also benefited from this joint project. Z4 was a dying vehicle, so it was wise for two of the largest car manufactures to come together and do this project. Toyota rejected the engine and other components several times since they didn't meet Toyota's quality control standards. This car is growing on me for sure.
Yea, its not perfect but its good enough, aftermarket will take care of that lol. If you want a concept car you gotta pay for it, and they showed its possible with the LC500, it just costs alot to do it.
It's a tough one. On the one hand the FT-1 produced a lot of hype but it was never going to be reality. If people had only seen the new Supra as it is now perhaps there'd be less complaints.
Yeah I didn't even see what he means when he compared the looks of the FT-1 and Supra. They don't look radically different, and I don't think anyone expects Supra to look like a Supercar
Every time you open a hatch and have to remove the cargo cover in your own “special” violent way it absolutely cracks me the hell up🤣🤣 .....I wait on the edge of my seat for it to happen in every vehicle that might even possibly have one.......great vid as usual Love your work !!!!!!!!!
@@MasterMalrubius That's not even the worst part. The guy has a score for acceleration and handling. In acceleration he only takes 0-60 times which are pointless irl and on what premises he scores handling? He only takes cars to public roads, never done anything to test the cars limits and is a bad driver. Literally the opposite of Chris Harris and how people find that viewable is beyond me. Then again, Americans...
Wow, this is something I need to drive. The fact that you said it feels Japanese when you drive it and throttle oversteers easily... sold. I miss the way my 86 handled, it was great. Flingable and controllable, one of the best feelings behind the wheel.
You know a RU-vidr is truely awesome when the viewers are awesome too. There's no shitty "Zupra" jokes here. The people that dislike the new Supra actually convey their opinions like grown ups and the people defending the Supra are also well articulated
BMW reliability is in question here, my 2008 IS350 has 270k kms on it and still running strong, while my buddy's 2010 m3 could't even get to 150k kms on the original power plant
ya but everyone knows BMW struggled with V-8s, and nearly every V8 M3 had known rod bearing issues...their i6 is indisputably one of the best most reliable engines ever made. However, comparing Toyota engine reliability to any german is not a fair comparison. German engineering focus' more on performance and Toyota doesn't hence the bmw engine in the supra and lack of FI on any lexus F type.
I thought the same too before doing some research. I found out that the new engine used in the Supra was thoroughly tested and revised by Toyota to meet their quality and reliability standards. See this video at 8:00 for more details. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_jbyzmtgU_0.html
@Joseph C. Try not to be dishonest with what you're stating; the recalls were a) for literally just a few that had improper seatbelt welds and b) defective back-up cameras. I'll take a defective camera over major engine failures and other flaws BMW's are known for (that Toyota investigated themselves and has done what they can to mitigate these issues) over an actual BMW that had no input whatsoever from Toyota. I'd never in my entire life buy a BMW, but a 'BMW' that was top to bottom inspected as a joint venture with Toyota, being held to their standards, yeah, i'll go ahead and buy one.
I guess the best advise is, like with any product, don't be an early adopter, you usually pay the price for it. The second revision of anything is always better. Unless you are loaded with money
I've watched every single press review on the A90....and honestly, this is by far the best. Very partial and mature about the realities of a car like this, and avoids the easy trigger words that hype up teenagers in the comment section. These are the best types of reviews for individuals who are genuinely considering purchasing this car. Subscribed.
I really like the car. But to me it's a re-imagining of a Supra as a sports car. The original was much more of a GT car, and I don't think Toyota wanted to build a non-Lexus GT as the cost would have been astronomical 'for a Toyota' (probably north of $90k, the MKIV was relatively more expensive than this). Is it a perfect rose-tinted evolution of a 90's icon? No. Is it a tunable sports coupe? Yes and I think that's something to celebrate.
DEVLAD A good point. I think Toyota had to ultimately stick to the reputation that the Mk4 set later on in its life, since few think of the Mk4 as it was originally intended anyway.
@@dawnpoint That's it. The MK4 didn't sell well at all compared to the MK3, until it hit the used market after the 'cultural appreciation'. I used to own an MK4 and it was a great car, but it was no sports car. They were soft and comfortable compared even to other cars of the era (R32/R33 GTR for example). Even the default 2JZ tune for the MK4 was smooth, comfortable power. Another thing to consider is because of it's later reputation as a 'sports car' (and the fact that cars like the Cayman didn't exist during the MK4's inception) Toyota had to change the focus from a GT to compete.
EVERY time I watch one of your videos I am always as impressed with the production quality as I was the first time I saw one. You are a master of your craft PLEASE keep it up. You are so far ahead of every other car channel in terms of detail and cinematography.
Great video Mr. Geese. I'd like to point out one thing - I appreciate your use of slow shutter speeds in the outdoor daytime shots. So many productions, even huge professional ones, overlook this little detail. They use super fast shutter speeds which makes the footage look choppy, amateur, and unpleasant, cause they didn't want to just slap a simple ND filter on there. It makes the footage look so much more pleasant and cinematic.
I just leased a BMW m140i Finale edition for 3 years and I'm enjoying the hell out of it. I'll be interested to see how the Z4 and the Supra evolve, definitely will be walking into one of two after my lease is up. I'm not sure I agree about the M cars feeling retrofitted, it feels like a whole bunch of regulations and corporate engineering is holding them back. (m140i will be bought and sold to my father after the lease)
Savagegeese, this was thee best Supra review to date !! You articulated the co-development with BMW and the driving dynamics against the Z4, M cars and the 86 so well. Excellent work man 👌🏽
The Vibe The Z4 will actually hold its value. This Supra is a bastard child that shouldn’t have existed. Toyota would have been much better off using their V6 and making the Supra extremely lightweight.
@@markm0000 It's impossible considering that a V6 will make it heavier and won't feel up to the standards of an Inline 6 (hence its heritage). And hence that Toyota revised every part of the engine, stress tested it to meet their reliability stabdards, coded it, programmed it, and fully custommed it. = Toyota heart, feel, and soul. Collaboration is sometimes best for both parties involved. The new Supra would've never happened otherwise.
I'mJustFarhan I don’t trust Toyota did a thing to that engine until someone cracks open the Supr4 and the z4 side by side. Toyota cared so much about the interior they slapped a badge on the steering wheel and called it a day. This car is not what people want to believe it is. It’s literally a z4 with different lights.
@@markm0000 Albeit that Toyota designed, built, and layed out the whole interior. The parts come from both BMW and Toyota (such as the screen, subwoofers, steering wheel, materials, vents, gauges, just to name a few are all Toyota parts inside) And other than Toyota and BMW co-developing the platform and engine then spent years alone creating their own cars, there was no inspiration taken
i cant wait for this in-depth final review, i was taking everything everyone else said with a grain of salt, but after watching your review it brings it this car to a whole another level. Thank you
After seeing all the reviews of the Supra. And seeing journalists rush to get their video published 1st... I like the fact that SavageGeese waited and dropped his review when he was ready. That’s why I value his opinion more than the other journalists except for maybe Chris Harris and Top Gear... 😉 That’s how you know his material is all about quality. Not just the first to get their cookie cutter review uploaded. Don’t hate the player hate the game
I've seen majority of the 2020 Supra reviews and I really appreciate the comparison against the "M" or "Z" cars. That really gives a benchmark of how this car functions as a whole. Thanks SavageG
I have to say a solid car. Glad to see Toyota bringing something out in this day and age of SUVs and Trucks. I agree with the 8 speed (have it in my scatpack). Keep up the great work. FYI....got a manual hellcat and manual Chevy SS if you ever want to do review on them. Thanks!
@@johnrickard8512 The SUV has turned into an oversized hatchback and pick up trucks well, yeah there isn't really an excuse for that one unless it's your only car.
Toyota could have made it on their own, however, it would have been a massive financial risk; a new platform could also have spawned a Toyota made next gen 86, as well Lexus models, and could have used the I-6 and I-6 turbo in other models (Tacoma, SUV's etc.) but Toyota being Toyota, they took the more financially safe approach by partnering with BMW. I know the styling is polarizing, but I'm in the camp of "like it". The car looks great in yellow and red, I don't know why anyone would want a sedate color on this type of car. The Supra looks way better than the Honda Civic type fast and furious. I still think a car like this needs a manual transmission option, maybe it will come later. It's going to have to go toe-to-toe with modern Mustangs & Camaros which are amazing cars for the money, and with the PP2/ILE models amazing handlers, as well as lower end Porsches, of course the Z4, and to a significantly lesser extent, the 370z. Maybe this will prompt Renault/Nissan to revive the Z, give it a fresh chassis and the VR30DDTT from the Infinity line. I'm interested to see parts pricing though, being it's a BMW under the skin, with Toyota offer replacement parts with a lower profit margin built in, or are they going to cost BMW money?
"A massive financial risk"? Congrats for the understatement of the week. For Toyota to have undertaken the new Supra on its own it would have more like a fiduciary crime. The word is that mid-level bean counters tried to stop the shared project with BMW based on analysis that the Supra will never make its investment back. Had Mr. Toyoda not stepped in to green light the Supra it would never have been built, at all. The Supra is pure and simple a gift to those who love sports cars. It deserves to be appreciated on that basis alone.
@Nathan unknown "...Cost to the company means fuck all, considering how much the market share Toy has in the global markets." This comment reminds me of an old I Love Lucy episode. Lucy and Ethel purchased a dress shop. They found they couldn't move their inventory. So Lucy suggested they drop the price of their dresses. But Ethel objected that they would lose money on every dress they sold if they did so. Lucy's response was that they would make up the deficit in volume. I assume you're not a financial analyst for a major automotive manufacturer.
@Nathan unknown Well, you'll have to wait at least a couple of years to find out whether Toyota fans sour on the Supra because every single unit planned for the current and next model year have already been pre-ordered. And if you think that there are serious competitors at the $50K MSRP, you should definitely name one so those already on waiting lists for the Supra can go out and buy one. As for claiming that "Toyota could stand to loose (sic) on the full in-house production and be alright," I'm afraid you really don't understand how capitalism works.
@Nathan unknown uh huh says someone who has posted no facts, whatsoever. Simply claims unsupported by evidence and financial advice to Toyota to lose money to fulfill his fantasies. Not surprising that you've now resorted to insults in the absence of substance. I see you've run out of anything but insults. Not surprising.
@Nathan unknown So your comeback consists of an article reporting that Toyota makes a profit, a list of vehicles under $50K virtually none of which is a true two seat sports car except for vehicles like the MX-5, the Fiata, and the BRZ/86, none of which is a Supra competitor and a number of vehicles that are no longer even for sale, a list of automobiles priced thousands of dollars more than the Supra, several of which have MSRP's twice that of the Supra, and a list of used cars. Lame doesn't come close describing your response.
Thanks for cooling your head and collecting your thoughts before talking about this in a review. That is what journalism should be like. Great visuals and sound go nicely with the train of thought you follow here. Is this one of the cars you could see yourself buying and owning to support the idea behind it, like your old FRS? Would love to see you and Turbowski tune this. Or are you "getting to old" for messing around with these things?
I dont have the time right now to early adopt this car. And as good as it is I'd want a manual car regardless of loss of performance. But hopefully people get out there and test the limits. I have some track videos etc. Planned with it however.
A true car review unlike other youtubers and journalists who seems to just agree with everything Toyota tells them because they were spoiled and pampered.
It may get the newer 2.4L boxer, but I sort of doubt it's going to get a turbo. Just like the new MX-5 got a 26 hp bump, I doubt the 86 will have a substantially higher power than it's current 205.
For the last couple of weeks, I have watched the reviews of the new Toyota Supra in youtube. Two things confused me because I did not find any pattern among the reviews: 1) Steering ratio 2) Transmission. Some said the steering is slow; you have to work more. Some said it's fine. Some said the transmission is great. Some said it's a disappointment. However, I trust you, Mr. Geese. Waiting for the detailed review.
Not having ever sat in or driven a Supra of any kind, I can honestly say I'm excited by this car. Probably wouldn't ever be able to afford it, but it's at least good to see auto manufacturers trying to make something fun.
The best thing about Savage Goose reviews is he doesn't put down every Toyota as being inferior to Hondas just because his boyfriend works for Honda. If you catch my drift
My goodness I could only imagine what this will be like when they release a manual w/targa top version in 2021. Put a tune on it and this will be auto heaven.
I will never be able to buy this car (mom with kiddos here), but I love Savagegeese videos! I trust the car reviews from this channel, and the quality in the videos is outstanding.
fake vents were indeed fake unless the "vents" are actually covering holes in that hood. from what i saw from other articles those hood vents are covering nothing, you still need to cut the hood to give it real vents.
Toyota's own 8-speed is garbage, just read owner reviews of the new Camry and RAV4, lots of transmission issues. They made the right decision to go with the ZF.
Right off the bat, the panel gaps and panel alignment are atrocious. I'm hoping this is just pre-production issues. @1:27 the hood to front bumper @1:50 trunk line from windshield to quarter
I was surprised when you said “unlike the 86”. I figured there were more than a couple of quirks and loose ends pre built into that car to accommodate future upgrades. Great video though, glad to see someone do an honest take on this car. It deserves it.
Finally, someone who talks about the actual car, and doesn't constantly re-complain about "people complaining that it's a bmw z4." "I mean it's still a good car. The BMW complainers are BMW complainers, and I need to address them, but the BMW complainers complain that it's not an MK4 Supra. I just need to clarify that they're right but they're wrong. Jeez, BMW complainers, they get on everyone's nerves. We should all ignore them."
There is also the BMW snobs that prefer zee Germans way or nothing. This car seems to be very controversial. Who knew people would be so critical of a company trying to put out a reasonable priced truly trackable car....SAD!
Outstanding job! You hit the apex at angles no one does. I'm not talking about the drive, I'm talking about the content of your review. I'll never be able to drive this car, but in my own way, I felt like I did, thanks to you!
It is going to hold up even with small to medium mods if you don't look to maximize horsepower with it. But if the owner is looking at 500HP or more then it is going to break. Another youtuber that owns an MK4 Supra covered the engine details Between the 2JZ-GTR & B58 and what both are capable of.
netmatrix75 its gunna hold up??? seriously what mechanical and or engineering perspective are you stating that ridiculous fact from? The problem with it being a colab is the same as every other one, when real problems happen, bmw wont admit it and toyota wont either, you get caught in between both manufacturers who dont know how to fix problems. I should knoe ive been there before.
@@netmatrix75 BMW products don't hold up well, give it a little aggressive driving and a few years you'll soon see oil and fluid leakage all over the engine bay.
I think most of your viewers appreciate the wait on this video. When everyone raves alll at once it is a little hard to believe that everything is so amazing. Glad to hear that after reflecting on your experience, the Supra still meets your expectations.
Love the quality of this video Really talks about the good things and bad things of the new Supra and I like that this is an honest review not a biased video The new Supra is a great sports car
After watching savagegeese videos I seriously don't take other reviewers videos serious like I do his, because he knows his facts and he does so much research. I have a lot of respect for him, plus he seems like a pretty cool guy.
What you said at the end of the video about how it feels and your honest opinion just sold me on one... Once the manual comes out of course. I have a TT MKIV 6 speed and its a classic now which makes it hard to drive/fix/maintain, so looking for a new modern ride to join it in the stables and ive been on the fence (even though Im a huge supra fanatic). Thanks for the video! Keep up the honest good reviews!
The best and most honest reviews of any car reviewer and tells all the details and the suspension etc! Unlike many who just read paper stats..... and gives their opinion and not much substance. Savage geese gives amazing and detailed reviews! Been watching you since you honestly criticized the FRS
Yeah when I was getting my car a check up at the Toyota dealer. Saw a nice mid dark green one in the dealer ship. It looked sooo nice. The inside was comfy aswell. I'm 5'9 and fit just perfectly. View wasn't to low
This guy proves you don't have to be an amateur comedian to do car reviews. The TG trio made the car+comedy thing popular, but not everyone can pull that off.
With all those fake vents and other aftermarket prepared slots, maybe Toyota can pump out limited editions where TRD themselves will fill in those slots. Sure, make it more expensive, but it will definitely be cool to see. Toyota Supra Track Edition, like the RC F.
In the kitty-litter box that is RU-vid, its nice to have a review that's not cat-shit. This is the review I've been waiting for. Cogent, Concise, Intellectually Honest, Informative by someone who actually understands cars. Well Done, Dr. Goose. Score - 9.4
You need to drive the Z4M, or even the Z3m, i wager you’d love it. That feeling of sitting on the rear wheels and having the car rotate at your hips...hard to beat I say “even the Z3m” but some would argue it’s superior, depends on what you’re after. They both have the e46 m3 engine but the Z3m uses e36 m3 suspension. I’m not crazy am I? Those were both dedicated platforms yes?
