The New Volkswagen Polo for 2020 gets a new -litre turbo petrol engine. Power now goes up to 108.5bhp and that makes it significantly quicker than the old VW Polo GT TSI. With the manual gearbox the 0-100kmph time now drops to 9.9 seconds and fuel efficiency is up to 18.24kmpl. Together with the excellent ride and handling, the Polo delivers enthusiastic performance that continues to set the benchmark in this segment.
Editor Sirish Chandran, who has rallied the Polo since 2013 brings you this extensive test of the refreshed VW Polo. He says that despite no change to the interiors and exteriors, the enthusiastic engine together with the excellent chassis delivers on the fun to drive factor

I've made up my mind! EDIT: Bought Polo 1.0 TSI in Carbon steel color! Awaiting delivery, OTR : 8.9 Lakhs Chennai after discounts 😁 It's good value considering TSI engine, 6 Speed MT, touchscreen, cruise control, automatic wipers, climate control etc... Not to talk about amazing build quality and some nice Easter eggs Gonna get this pocket rocket in carbon steel color 🔥

@@nandlalagrawal8736 go for Figo diesel, is my opinion Much lower service costs ( lowest in the segment ), cheaper part costs, being a diesel obviously cheaper to run And 100bhp, 215 nm TDCi motor will leave a wide grin on your face without burning a hole in your pocket

Sai Oh really i20 will set benchmark over Polo in terms of quality?! VW doesn’t think we deserve old generation polo over global version..but the global model has got 4+ meters in length which is the only reason it didn’t make it yet .. and still Polo has got really timeless design which the reason why enthusiasts still choose Polo over other cars in its segment.. Now 1ltr TSI turbocharged engine quicker than 1.2ltr TSI motor so what else one can expect🔥

@@ram99101 I'll explain why I said that. 1. Interior quality and features, yes it will set the benchmark. 2020 elite i20 will have much more features like remote start/stop, geo-fencing and many other connected features, apart from the usual equipment list like passive entry/remote start, cruise control, auto headlamps etc. 2. Build quality wise, ofcourse Polo is the segment best ( along with Altroz ), but i20 will also be built decently. It will not be a tin can like baleno 3. New gen i20 will get venue's T-GDi motor with 120ps which is more than the Polo ( 110 ps ). Also, the old Polo had the awesome 7 speed DSG, which has now been replaced with a torque converter, while the 2020 i20 will most probably get the DCT from venue. So better transmission. 4. Yes, the Polo has a timeless design, but remember, we Indians are still getting a decade old car while Europe has got two more generations. You think a company like VW doesn't know how to repackage the new polo to be under 4 metres? They don't want to invest the money for that rn

Sirish Chandran Hi, like any other enthusiast, I’d also be glad to see a direct comparison video of the old 1.2 Polo GT TSI with the newly launched 1.0 Polo GT TSI to understand facts and figures better than what is written on paper. It would be great if you could consider doing one such video as there are lots of buyers who have this question whether to invest in the new Polo with a cylinder less and no DSG or to settle for a decent second hand Polo GT TSI with the 1.2 Ltr engine and the DSG. VW is going with the don't fix what ain't broke approach which can be a good and a bad thing at the same time. Good part being it's still as fantastic as ever (ever more so now with the 1 litre TSI) but the bad part is that the Polo is at a time of its life cycle now where a substantial face life would be much appreciated by the customers which would make their new car distinguishable from a 10 year old one!

Atleast ppl who are going to buy swift should consider this. Almost same dimensions but it weighs 190 kg more which simply suggest Maruti is a Tin can. Please don't come here to say that "maruti is best in class crumple zone 🙄"

If you are just considering just build quality then there is no argument. But don't you know we need to consider other aspects too as a buyer? Japanese cars are more reliable, refined and lower maintenance cost. You will have more and more electrical issues on European cars. And maintenance cost is very high. You will never find Maruti cars stopped on highway because of issues. Even Maruti 800 still runs as new now if you have maintained very well. If you compare top end models the price difference is almost 2 lacks. Finally rear legroom and boot space is more on new swift.

A well sought out review. It's true that you feel the torsional rigidity when driving these cars around the corners, in comparison Swift is not a slacker either in the handling department, it just gobbles up those corners while oversteering like a fanatic. I just wish swift was as safe as POLO with a better engine package.

Please make a detailed review on the new BS6 TSI Volkswagen Vento Highline 1.0(P) & probably a comparison with the Ciaz Alpha. Its on-road price is somewhere between 11.2-3 lakhs in India, almost same as the Ciaz Alpha.

I'm a proud owner of a 1.2 GT TSI with the DSG. No doubt the TSI manual will be great to drive, but I made the decision to go ahead with the GT TSI not just for its performance but also keeping in mind the traffic on our roads. I'm interested to see how the 1.0 TSI with the 6 speed Torque converter fares. Will it match the brilliance of the DSG? @sirish @evoindia

Hello Sirish, I'm upgrading from a 1st Gen Figo Diesel. In search of a pure driver's car and want to keep it for atleast 10years. A few questions; 1. Is Rapid better in dynamics than Polo? 2. Any chance of i20 "N"/ Swift Sport 1.4 launching under 15L? by 2021 atleast? 3. Will VW consider a go-faster version of Polo 1.0? Please answer so that I can make a decision. Thanks.

1. Rapid / Vento rear suspension has a better geometry than the Polo. But with the Polo's more compact footprint you'd get similar handling on both 2. i20 N might come. Swift Sport nope 3. Nope. But there are plenty of go-faster parts available for that engine internationally which will all be available in India very soon

It is old. But no cars are matching it's character. Enthusiats look for character majorly, not design. For ex. One cutest car with 100 hp and old car with 180 hp. Which one enthusiasts would take. Obviously high powered one. Isnt it. Polo is already a unmatchable performer at this price.

Great review ..i love polo...its great car no doubt about..but.still even without a change in next gen.. polo needs an feature upgrade..my question.. 1. Is any kind of facelift expected in 2020.. may be a touch screen bigger with proper ports below..and a bigger analog dials..like in european MK5 polo. 2.is this 1.0 tsi locally manufactured.? In ur previous polo u said it will be manufactured locally..implying price reduction?. 3.i really like this car but the car being old..i had a feeling it will get discontinued when taigun will be launched.. For me still the grand i10 nios 1.0 litre turbo is a better pick than this 10 year old car with some stickering around , and to me still the engine in the grand i10 nios is better and Is more refined and at the end the nios is a new car, rather than a 10 year old one.

I find it amusing, he and every other polo fan boy bragged about being the safest, "no other car in the segment feel safer than polo?? really? this car with 4/5 star?? well, i hate to break it to you, but altroz is the only definition of safe in this class, feels solid build and strong and yes, altroz turbo revotron is coming, not long ago, we remember a 114 hp turbo revotron, this new turbo revotron wont be any different.

Yes DSG is gone , and so does its issues .. btw .. What a Gearbox it was , the best shifter !

Hi Sir, Sir I am planning to Buy VW polo Mpi trendline petrol 1.0 ltr varient,I am from Hyderabad this varient has onroad price around 7 lakhs,I contacted some of the VW dealers they are giving price discounts around 70k to 80k rupees on onroad price,I am getting it in 6.2 lakh only,sir I am very much confused that is this varient is under power, this is will be my first family car,I drive below 500 kms in a month most of my driving will be in city and sometimes in highway,my height is 5 feet 9 inch ,I drive with family of 2 elder members,please help in picking right choice.

This engine will rock on the Taigun. It has more punch than the Hyundai engine but refinement isn't on par

@@sirishch I am of the opinion that small 3 cyclinder engines are the future. Will fill in the gap between the electrification and ic engines.especially with the hybrids.
