Adding a million driver aids/assists so the car basically does all the work for you and they have absolutely no soul or character. It's a thing most new cars seem to do. I don't like it.
The thing I noticed the most when I had the car to test was that it just seemed to make everyone happy. I got compliments all week long, especially up in the mountains by people who knew cars. Didn't matter what their scenes were, they thought the Mach 1 was cool. It definitely strikes a chord with people. Enjoyed your take on it, man. You're a legend. 👍🏻
I call BS o n Ford's statement. Most car reviewers are youtubers these days and you definitely won't be taken seriously as a journalist on youtube if you can't even drive manual
@@aaronmcconkey1062 you are part of the problem. there's a reason that an active offensive is being mounted to keep manuals. it's not for you guys. its for the little guy, the few who still like and enjoy it. Why be a selfish asshole? You want a minority to suffer? that's exactly what you just said.
I'm a Mach 1 fan, I own a '71 and '04 Mach 1. I like the new Mach 1, it's kept a true mach by being a parts bin car, or "greatest hits" as you put it. I am mildly disappointed that Ford didn't go with some sort of ram air system though. Or at least some kind of obviously unique design that isn't just stickers.
“I think car guys like us sometimes like to change things just to change them like to right to feel like we’re improving but even though maybe we won’t “ such a good overall of us
The GT350 is that hot chick you meet at the club, and she's only good for a few dates. You can't really trust her, she's unreliable. The Mach 1 is the hot chick you meet at school, and you wife up to have a family. She's reliable.
Have to disagree with you. Mach 1 is a spiritual successor to all the previous Mach 1s… Lol. The Boss, Mach and Shelby lineups come and go in cycles rather than replace each other.
I think they did a great job on the Mach 1. I have an 18 PP2 and they added the few things I thought were missing. The Tremec transmission and diff/transmission coolers. I’m sure the chassis is tuned even better. I’m indifferent about the power plant. The voodoo is great in its own right for obvious reasons. On the other hand, the coyote is great too; it has lots of bottom end power for the street and it’s reliable. This is a mustang for enthusiasts that can appreciate how refined they were able to make the s550. Anyone else will say it just has new stickers. Maybe the next gen mustang will give everyone the “wow” factor they are looking for.
Probably a move to maintain the Mach 1 moniker. The last Mach 1 was in 2004 while the last Boss was in 2014. Ford lost the GT40 moniker because they never did anything with it and Sapphire Engineering scooped it up without having to pay a dime and when Ford rolled out the 2nd gen GT and wanted to use GT40 and Sapphire kindly asked Ford to cough up a big chunk of money to use the GT40 moniker.
All that's left is the Voodoo in front of the DCT and the supercharged 5.2 in front of the Tremec. We can call one of them the 2023 Cobra R. Maybe a Boss 429 label?
Very fair review - I've owned my Mach 1 now since late May. I have the manual transmission and Recaro seats (which isn't the easiest to get in and out of but comfortable). You are right about the head turning and comments. I have people on the road screaming 'nice car'. I'm enjoying the Mach 1 very much.
Not sure, my first time ordering a vehicle. With the way things have been for the last 18 months, who knows? If it's anytime before Christmas, I'll be happy, happy, happy!
I loved my 18 GT350 unfortunately the motor dropped at 9k miles so Ford bought it back under lemon law and I used the refund to pay down my mortgage. I’m taking delivery of a new 2022 Camaro 2SS with the 1LE track package next week though so I’m excited.
@@k-rod2453 don’t get me wrong I loved the car and it was amazing but damn I’ve never had that many issues with something that expensive, I owned it for a year and it was in the shop for 3 months of that year.
@@bombproofrazorSory to hear you had issues with your GT350, I avoided them for the sketchy engine reliability and chassis. Purchased a 2019 SS 1LE instead and couldn't be happier. SS 1LE is an amazing car and very underappreciated. The GM Alpha chassis is much better than any mustang, I noticed this on my test drive (drove 350 the same day and general area) and have never regretted going with 1LE. Congratulations and enjoy!
I kinda get this vibe that we're looking at an early version of what the s650 will be. Kinda like how the s550 took some engineering elements from the boss 302. The s650 will take a lot of elements from this car.
I flew to New Hampshire last weekend and bought a FJG handling package and drove it home down the east coast for 550 miles. I can confirm people lost their mind when they saw it. At gas stations and just going down the road.
Really good point about purchasing performance vehicles for a channel when in reality they come so well equipped it wouldn’t make sense replace OEM parts for video content. Hit the nail on the head.
i have this same mach 1 color and everything with the tremec traded my for 2018 gt for it. added the gurney flap and change the rims color to black and its now a beautiful monster 🔥
I love the Mach 1. It has the amazing, reliable, and tunable coyote engine paired with a durable tremec manual transmission. It looks great and comes with parts that were on the gt350. It was slightly less expensive and dealers weren’t charging mark ups I would’ve definitely bought one. But instead I decided to just order a 2022 GT to fit my budget. Can’t go wrong with any mustang gt. I was debating a used gen 1 voodoo gt350 but I did not want to deal with the oil consumption.
I love these special edition cars, especially Mustangs but I think id like this to be called Boss 302 more. I think its marketing strategy for Mach E to still be in eyes of people as Mustang. Also I miss GT350 a lot. I remember how excited and hyped I was when it came out, no car will do that anymore. I will never forget that huge Ford reveal of new Ford GT, Focus RS, Raptor, Fiesta ST and Shelby.
I loved your review, and if I could afford a new Mach 1, I'd have it as my daily. I purchased my 2019 GT-p as my first Mustang ever. I only feel feel the handling was lacking. That was resolved a bit with lowing springs and KONI Yellows. Would I purchase another? DUH!!! Keep up the great reviews, brother!
good review. i bought the Mach 1 with the Tremac and recarros, FJG, non HP. love it. the no lift shift and auto rev match is lots of fun. i don't feel as though i need to do any mods. it has such a great feel about it when you drive it. cheers
Tbh I'm glad you drive the auto. I would consider eventually getting one and wanted to know how it compared to the regular GT since they said the 10 speed in the mach 1 was tuned differently. I really like the Mach 1 truthfully.
@UCNMJh97D757akgqgLFC3tnQ i don’t see this as an attempt at at a second coming of the Terminator. The 03/04 Cobra is on a platform all on its own that no other Mustang in the modern area has come close to
I was just on another car review channel and it felt weird because I could tell the reviewer wasn't an enthusiast, and he disliked things I thought were great. It was nice to come here and feel like "ahh this is how a review should be done".
I wasn’t about this model at first glance but you said it best David. It takes all the best factory parts in a turn key package. I might get hated on but I’d have it redone to be in just the gray color without the graphics on the exterior. Tint the windows, duckbill spoiler and rock it all day long.
I’m incredibly sad that the GT350 is already gone. I LOVE the sound of that naturally aspirated 5.2, I hope it comes back somehow someday! Edit: I hope it comes back in something other than the GT500 ha.
half the news I'd read on the GT350 was engine problems or problems with warranty engine replacement. If the engine destroys itself it has to go. Not my call, but I understand why they don't hand out voodoo2 engines like candy when they break.
mach 1 with a hellion twin turbo kit and its a match made in heaven. Or a Whipple to get rid of the coyote lower end. Can keep it nice and reliable with 650whp or less or can go 900whp with support mods of course but capable. Making it the best coyote to modify while behind comfortable and great looking as well.
I think the Mach I is definitely an ultimate Mustang. One of the greatest, but I think the Shaker hood should have been an option if you wanted to check that box.
I was really considering the Mach 1.. but knew it was going to get a pretty big dealer mark up, at least for a while, and then saw the price and was like.. sheesh! Well, I would of had to have it in the handling package, appearance package, etc, so the price really began to shoot up... Ended up ordering a new 21 ZL1 instead which seems like a bargain compared to what some dealers are selling Mach 1s for in some areas! Really like those wheels and the fighter jet paint scheme.
This car really does feel like a love letter to what made mustangs great, a celebration of the last 2 decades of growth and innovation. And a send-off to the traditional mustang.
Awesome video as always 👍. I think Ford got a lot of things right on the new Mach1 and they got some things wrong. They definitely listened to the mustang owners and put together what we wanted in an awesome package. The killer is going to be the pricing point. At 53 grand you get a base Mach1 with cloth seats that looks more like a base eco interior. To get one like you had there with leather and nav with the auto your around 59 grand. Throw in the Recaro seats and now your over 60 grand. With the GT 350 it was a little easier to look at the car and swallow that kind of a price tag.
Little bit of trivia for ya…. Every 2015+ Mustang has line-lock. It’s just disabled. You need 3 Firmware Files and FORScan to to enable it. I did it on my 2017 Procharged V6 (3.7). 🙌🏼 Every model has Drive Modes as well. You have to upgrade to the Sync3 system to get the mode toggle. I enabled them as well.
Being a HONDA guy my whole life, now that im older, i have to say, and Ive never thought id say this ever, but, I want a Mustang now! Theyre such beautiful cars
I have the new Mach 1. It is my first American Car. I love it and don't have the shaker madness. It's a treat to drive as is and the Folks at Ford were the best to deal with as well.
I disagree on the successor of the Boss 302. The 2012/2013 had way more development, it's own forged "roadrunner" engine, unique quad exhaust, and TONS of Boss 302 specific parts. When it came out it was declared "best mustang ever made" by many reviewers to include motor trend, motor week and Ford itself. The Mach 1 is very cool, it didn't have the special development like the Boss 302 had. I'm hoping Ford brings out another Boss 302.
The Boss was an evolution of what the S197 could be. It had a unique engine, suspension, exhaust, and exterior pieces. The Mach 1, unfortunately, is more of a parts bin special with some styling tweaks. The transmission is from the GT350, tires and suspension are from the PP2 (with subtle tweaks), engine from the Bullitt, and aero components from the GT500. Styling was the only thing Ford changed from existing parts. If it cost as much as the Bullitt, that'd be one thing. Unfortunately, it's priced like a Shelby
But the manual transmission statement is true. That applies to many manual transmission owners hearing missed shifts when making a quarter-mile pass beside my daily driver, pure stock bracket racer. Considering just the suspension. Its a Faster Coyote powered GT350. The original 1969 Mach 1 which was my first new car before college. A new $3000 Red, underrated 351 Cleveland Mach 1 with a closed hood scoop setting on a black decal. 428 CJs and Boss Mustangs excluding the Boss 9 offered a vacuum shaker hood option on their carbureted engines. Not a throttle body engine. FYI. Average price including crappy cars is over $47000. This is a fantastic looking Mustang in a great package with the correct engine and if you can find one. Your starting around $53,000 but getting a Mustang on the extreme level of a GT350 that cost north of $65,000. You never mentioned it, but the 10R80 in the Mach 1 was modified by Ford for improved performance.
Crazy GM really changed the game when it comes to cars that handle well just about every manufacturer has their own iterations of GM's magnetic dampening suspension they most certainly do live up to that America's most Innovative car company statement
@ D.D. Henderson: Yeah, GM can be an amazing and innovative car company when they get it in gear and do something right. As your example shows. What gets me, is that they'll do something really smart and then follow it with something really stupid, maybe a whole bunch of really stupid things. I am a current 2013 Ford Mustang GT owner - but I was raised in a family that drove nothing but the 'General. I once owned a 1969 Pontiac Firebird convertible and a 1973 Olds Cutlass Sport with a "Rocket" 350 4v motor, and my older brother a 1967 Camaro 327 c.i. 4v hard-top. I want to like GM, I really do.... but I don't know which company I'm going to get - the smart and innovative one, or the dumb one which makes lots of unforced errors. Will the real GM please stand up? Oh, and as brilliantly as the current drive-train and suspension on the current Camaro is engineered, I still won't buy one until Dearborn changes that God-awful sheet metal and styling. Can't see out of 'em and it is as ugly as the back end of a horse.
@@GeorgiaBoy1961 I'm a GM guy too. Raised up on Ford's until the local dealership screwed me in the 70's. My 1967 Oldsmobile 442 changed everything. Finally joined a high performance Buick club in the eighties. GM made the Rivieras too big in the seventies when they were planning to go midsize with it. Then came the HHR and made it too small, trying to save money, I guess. If it was on a midsized truck platform it would have been successful. You're right, Camaro's ugly.
GM is overall cheap and lazy when it comes to their “ normal” cars. But the Camaro and Corvette C8 is very impressive, sad to see the Camaro is dying again too.
As a Japanese/German car owner, I actually really like the sound and styling of the newer Mustangs. Performance per dollar is impressive. I really wish these were 20% smaller and lighter, though.
That's because they are GT cars you can live with. I can fit me a friend and all of our issued gear in mine easily. They aren't meant for just pure performance.
@@MylesKillis Interesting theory, but the Mustang has the same trunk space cubic ft as my Cayman's front and rear trunk combined (14). The Mustang also has a back seat, but my RSX also has a back seat with combined 25 cubic ft storage with the seats folded down. I suspect Ford gives the Mustang a wider wheelbase to be more stable given the extra power and that big engine also attributes to the weight and hood length too.
@@DC5Brandon It’s pretty dumb to compare two smaller trucks to one larger truck because you can’t fit certain things into smaller trunks that you can fit in one large chunk. You’re also comparing multiple vehicles to one vehicle and then acting as if those other two different vehicles have the same strength
@@MylesKillis If I can carry all my gear on the trip, what does it matter which trunk it's in? I already said the Mustang is great because of it's value/performance. I'm a fan just like you, I'm just saying I value size over performance, that's all.
They really need to put that voodoo engine in another mustang. High revving V8s are so rare and awesome. High revving engines are just going away in general with all the forced induction, and I get it, but when someone has a chance to keep it alive, they should.
@@stephenmoore1541 yeah, they unfortunately aren't the most reliable nor are they great as a daily driver, especially compared to the Coyote Mustangs. They're definitely nowhere near BMW V10 levels of unreliable, but the Voodoo just simply isn't as robust as the Coyote.
@@stephenmoore1541 hey listen don't just take my word for it. I'm not a Ford enthusiast I like mustangs and know alittle about a little but they may have fixed the issue or some performance shop might have. Ie 370z slave cylinders are trash ergo people complained about the issue and z1 motor sports made a solid bracket to hold slave in place and replace retaining pin no one complains after that fix. Focus rs got axed over wrong type of headgasket making head leak. Change headgasket no further issues. I encourage you to investigate if you really want the car.
I mean its a great looking, sounding, and running car it looks like... but id rather they didn't discontinue the gt350. Thats my dream car😞 the gt350 was so iconic and is such a badass car
On the “Off The Record” subject. If you have a traffic ticket in Chattanooga Tennessee or surrounding area, and you’re like me and got it on a vacant road while keeping up with the car beside you, then I recommend Cavet Abott & Weiss. Ask for Mr Joshua Weiss and he’ll handle it start to finish. Got my misdemeanor ticket down to a 10 over(not telling the actual speed I was clocked at lol) with 30 days unsupervised probation and 2 days community service. Not bad considering my history lol. Point is, Mr Weiss is awesome. He’ll work miracles.
8:27 I have one and a guy at the gas station went nuts. Standing there with his son swearing like crazy saying holy f*ck dude that thing is sweet, oh my god, he just kept going. You definitely lost out by not getting a 6 speed car to drive as it sounds totally different and the burbles and crackles on deceleration are pretty much what I love most. What really sets the Mach 1 apart is get it on a twisty road and it will leave a regular gt for dead.
Parts bin applies to the Dodge lineup. One thing about this fantastic Mustang. Ford used the correct parts. Here's what Motor Trend just wrote after testing both the GT350 and Mach 1 at VIR where the Mach 1 was faster. The new Ford Mustang Mach 1 is excellent, and it represents the tippy-top of the non-Shelby Mustangs-it essentially replaces the GT350. We've gone on record as saying it's "a GT350 with a lower redline"-high praise.
Just drove one today, and didn't even really get on it. Tremec 6 speed was like butter. Like this car better than gt350 I drove. Tbh they should have called this the boss 302. Because mach 1 reminds me more of a boulevard drag racer. And instead of a shaker..maybe a different hood. But since this is a parts bin "special", no complaints
The mach 1 I had at my dealer had the manual and the second you put it in first you knew it was different and special compared to a regular mustang (I own a 20 a10 pp1) the difference between the 2 cars is instant the second you start driving.
The shaker would have been nice to see incorporated, but seeing as it's not exactly practical for the modern Coyote motor, I can't be mad that it's missing. Aside from that, I think they did a great job with it. I'm glad the Voodoo 5.2 is reserved for the GT350 for the time being, as it retains that specific model's special factor. At the same time though, it's super dope that they gave the Mach 1 the tremac trans. I say kudos to Ford for another great limited edition run of a classic Mustang brought back to life. Also, I disagree that the revised Bullitt shouldn't have happened haha.
The Mach 1 reminds me of a good movie that had bad marketing. Ford released this at the end of a generation, so there really wasn’t a point in spending money like they did to market the Shelbies. That being said, I think this is the best S550 Mustang money can buy. You get the best parts from every model AND the reliability of the Coyote and Tremec. I’m so glad I was able to buy one of these at the very end of availability.
Off the record really worked bro. I was doing 80 in a 40. The lawyer went to court and got my ticket deferred and all I had to do was not get another ticket for 3 months and I was clean. The ticket was $300 and I just paid that to the lawyer at the end 🙏
There's a fair bit of 'performance' that can't be proven just by test results (how a car handles on a track/road is different than how fast it can accelerate and how much cornering grip it generates in a static test), but in testing by Motortrend, the 2012 Boss 302 Laguna Seca performed more or less on par with the results of the 2022 Mach 1, and even beat it in several key categories. (Handling testing methodology changed, so cannot be directly compared) 2022 Mach 1: 0-60 in 4.2 s 1/4 mile in 12.7 @ 114mph 60-0 in 96 feet. 2012 Boss 302 Laguna Seca: 0-60 in 4.0 s 1/4 mile in 12.4 @ 114mph 60-0 in 112 feet. Car and driver has nearly the same results; the newer car is slightly slower from a launch, and stops a LOT better. It also has nearly 1/10th G more grip on a 300foot skidpad test. For a car that is $4k more base price, but quickly rises to $10k+ more with options, vs a car that is a decade old, that's not much improvement.
Ford has said that the shaker hood actually reduces aerodynamics on the car. I'd be willing to bet that those reductions are negligible and it should have been an option. Still, the very first offerings of the Mach 1, back in the day, didn't have shaker hoods either. Coilovers would probably last longer than the Magnarides. What would it cost to replace the Magnarides? If they stop making Magnarides, you're going to have to get coilovers anyway.
I love the new mach 1. I like to compare it to the new edge mach 1 rather than the originals and I think it does what it needs extraordinarily well. No, the 350 was a better car and I do not think this new mach 1 replaces it perfectly, but the car is perfect regarding the mach 1 name
i wish they would’ve gone with the pp2 wheels those are my favorite stock mustang wheels ever and i feel like this car would’ve benefited from those wheels greatly
I hope you get to make a video of one thats manual in the future. I know its the same car but the experience is totally different. I've seen a few videos of the mach 1 with the tremec and holy shit it just makes you wanna drive it.
They should have kept the functional Gt350 fender vents. That shit is just damn sexy, how they follow the lines of the car. I’m it a fan of the Mach1’s weight. 3900lbs!?? And only 480? Eeeeeeek.
The ONLY thing I'd want to change is gearing closer (better 3-4 spacing though) to the mt82d4. I know I'm in the minority on this but I like those ratios better than the 3160. Still getting one next year though. That is unless the s650 is stunning...and they actually make a 4 door. Fast sedans and wagons, I don't need the space, I just like em.
It didn't need a shaker. The shaker was a option on the 69-70 cars. Not available on the 76-78 cars. And the 03-04 cars are the only mach 1s to have a shaker as standard. I don't see that this one doesn't have it as that big of a issue.
Appreciate you bringing this to us. I wish ford would’ve brought a manual for you. I liked the GT350 and the Voodoo engine, just not it’s problems. I like this car too. (They don’t get a capital “F” in their name. They get it for FAILING to bring a stick car).
The hood can be fixed by after market if you want a different one. I believe they decided not to do it cause would have probably created more drag and the car doesn't need the extra air.
since prices dropped on the mach 1 i'll totally buy it if i had the money, modify the exhaust and drive it around corners in the mountains or canyons around idaho, oregon or arizona...but with a truck i plan on selling soon i plan on getting a 5th gen camaro ss if the guy still has it or i might save up for a '11-14 or 15 mustang gt as my own personal goal
I live in the UK I have a limited 55 edition GT which I have had a lot of fun in, But coming November it will being replaced by a fighter jet gray mach 1 Don't get the PP2 mods but have already got all of them to fit to it love the review thank's made me happy I picked it. BTW it's the 6 speed :)
