The best awards discussion show out there! My current line up: 1. The Fabelmans 2. Everything Everywhere All At Once 3. Babylon 4. Women Talking 5. Tar 6. Banshees of Inisherin (sight unseen my most anticipated movie of the year) 7. The Whale 8. The Woman King 9. Avatar The Way of Water 10. Bardo (there's always a good chance an international film will squeeze in, if not this, then Decision to Leave) I feel about Top Gun like how Jeff feels about Women Talking. It's not that I didn't like it, it just isn't my kind of film and I can only really admire its merits in the craft categories. I'm sure I'll budge in a couple months and put it on the Best Picture list.

Everything Everywhere All at Once 2. Women Talking 1. The Fabelmans Other movies I think have a decent shot to get in: The Whale (just swapped it out for Elvis minutes before writing this), All Quiet on the Western Front, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Till. Unlikely movies I'm still not feeling comfortable to rule out entirely: Glass Onion (can't see a sequel to a movie that didn't get nominated be nominated itself, unless it got significantly better reception than the first like Maverick did), She Said, Triangle of Sadness, Decision to Leave, Bones and All. Out of the race completely in my eyes: Empire of Light, The Son, Bardo, Amsterdam, The Greatest Beer Run Ever, Whitr Noise, Nope, The Batman, Armageddon Time, virtually any other movie not yet mentioned.

Top Gun is probably getting in and I loved the movie, but I think putting at number 2 it’s a little too much… you gotta look at the nominations package, top gun will only get nominations for technical awards (editing, sound, visual effects etc) and picture so movies like Women Talking and Banshees have a way better package including probably director, screenplay and acting nominations! Top Gun is probably in the 7th spot for me: 1- The Fabelmans 2- Everything Everywhere All At Once 3- Women Talking 4- Banshees of Inisherin 5- TÁR 6- Babylon 7- Top Gun: Maverick 8 to 10 I’m not sure yet but definitely not Elvis, I would say something like She Said or Triangle of Sadness or All Quiet in the Western Front…

after the fabelmans won the TIFF people's choice for about 2 weeks i was sure it was a lcoked top 2 contender or so and predicted it as the best picture winner, but after the all Michelle Williams reverse category fraud thing, though i think she'll still get nominated, i can't see her winning. the last time someone won for screenplay after winning best director was way back in the 30s + the movie doesn't really seem like a screenplay movie (haven't watched it yet) though belfast won original so, who knows really? but i think this year it's a way more stacked category in original, i think EEAAO is the current frontrunner but, i don't know how the older voters reacted/ will react to it, another possibility for original is banshees in my opinion, which won the screenplay award at venice. is see the original race as 1. EEAAO 2. Fabelmans 3. Banshees the other picture contenders are (in my opinion) Babylon and Women Talking. after rewatching the trailer a couple of times, i've decided to predict damien chazelle for best director as the movie looks to be really over the top and with great performances (i predict robbie at either lead or supporting, brad pitt in supporting and calva in lead) + the movie is far more likely to win below the line than The Fabelmans. Women Talking already seems to be a lock for adapted and without Michelle Williams and as long as Robbie stays in lead it's also the favorite for supporting actress for either claire foy or jesse buckley. current picture predictions: 1. EEAAO 2. Fabelmans 3. Babylon 4. Women Talking 5. Banshees 6. TAR 7. Top Gun 2 8. The Whale 9. All Quiet 10. She Said

No X and Where the Crawdads sing in either of the 3 list. Those were two good movies. And deserve a shot. An Oscar winner has to be unique and precise and I think both those movies are in some ways genre bending and very well made. They tell their stories expertly. X puts a whole new spin on the Horror franchise with with its narrative and unique characters and it does not rely on jump scares to frighten you. Plus the narrative is very well done with the story progression and climax. Where the Crawdads Sing is another story that takes a fresh take on romantic movies and yes its a bit far fetched but it tells a poignant story and how you have to work to create the perfect ending after a very bad start. So another different approach. These 2 certainly seem better than some of the movies you mentioned here. Also the Good Nurse seems to have the Best Picture vibe. That has been left out. Certainly as Jeff said Knives Out is way too commercial and gimmicky to have a best picture chance. And Frankly it looks rather derivative and stylish over substance. The Good Nurse is probably Netflix's better chance.

This would be so much better with some graphics of sorts. Like display the titles or the posters of the movies being talked about. Also, jumping around with each film and the rankings for each person is confusing. Maybe average the ranking of each film for each person, and order them that way. Then each person can talk about where did they put it on their personal ranking.

I'm really upset right now because I can't get a screener or screening of Tar in my market. So I may not be able to nominate it in my guild awards. If you guys can help me get a screening in Orlando or a screener I would greatly appreciate it!!!

What about Corsage? No one is talking about it or Vicky Krieps for lead actress - and she won Cannes and is very reminiscent of a young Meryl Streep in the trailer.

I think that if the whale is as great as it's being reported to be I can see it winning a few awards like best actor and best director maybe even best picture. It seems very possible to me but I also haven't seen it yet but I know that Darren aronofskys bread and butter are movies that are dark character studies.
