sorry that you had to deal with that ID thing, I used to work in a retailer and dropped out to become a full freelancer, the challenge 25 thing was/is serious because they had secret shoppers to test us with it, and we can lose our jobs for failing. it happened to me and gave me disciplinary action then cut my bonus for that year as a warning, after that it was easy to spot who they were because I worked there for 4 years lol. I'm so glad I left. But do take it as a compliment! looking young that age is good! :D

Like the idea of sitting in the bath looking out the window. You really need to insulate and Vapour barrier the floor tho

Run chimney out of the wall . Use 2 x 45 degree elbows and some straights. Works perfectly and you can demount easily for cleaning. Dont risk holes in your roof. Use rockwall around flue as it exits wall or buy bespoke fitting.

Double walled chimney flue. The outer edge won't get to hot when going through the roof.

The last time I was asked for ID going into a bar I was 42. I had to be 21 at the time.

Surely the floor will rot out without any insulation underneath… unless it’s a temporary building? Will it not be cold and damp, plus risk of vermin etc?

I vote shower tray and then get a hot tub

since you've already waterproofed your roof, the easiest thing might be to look for some sort of pre-manufactured solution. there are lots of different types roof vents that can be used in your situation, some of the nicer ones have what is basically a pipe inside of a pipe to isolate the hot exhaust from the roof materials

That's what we did: triple walled pipe through the roof. Roaring fire but when you go up in the attic, pipe is cool. This was following the advice of a builder friend, "don't cheap out on this"

With the bath/shower why don't you just pour your concrete tub and then build everything related to the tub independently off the concrete without attaching it to the main structure (I.e. shower walls and ceiling and all waterproofing as one). So you'll basically end up with no joint that could potentially become separated from the main structure as the whole shower/bath will be its own entity resting on the concrete tub as its base. The walls could be made from something more lightweight like 2x2 timber and just cover with 12mm ply and then a suitable tile backerboard or even Aqua panel type finish. As long as you glue and screw everything together the 2x2 frame with 12mm ply would likely be ridged enough and it can just sit in front of your actually wall and ceiling. If you do find it needs attaching just create some slip-joints using some elongated holes in the timber to allow vertical movement of say 50mm. I could draw this for you to explain it better. Also when you do pour your slab, make sure you remove any loose squishy soil and dig down until you are actually on solid ground. It might even be sensible to dig some 250mm wide piers in each corner down to say 700mm depth to really support all the weight of the water. Have a look at piled raft foundations, it's the same but smaller scale. If you ensure the slab will not settle then i doubt you will have a problem but it will require more effort to dig deeper. Poor sub-base/excavation prep and building of poor ground is the number 1 reason why most Patios, drives and concrete slabs fail. It is the same as when the grout cracks in a bathroom which is because the surface they tiled on could move as it was not supported adequately or done correctly i.e plasterboard. Hope this helps. Also how old are you then? I thought you were similar age to me but i guess you are much older.

Hey mate, been enjoying the build. I'd like to do something like this, but I have absolutely no construction or DIY experience. What do you suggest? Can I learn from workaway/volunteer projects for free?

I get the age thing.... When I was expecting my first son, I was heading home from work on a bus and got up from my seat to let someone into the seat next to me (we were at the back of the bus). No sooner did I do that, a guy whipped right into my seat so I just held on to the closest poll. Then a lady who saw this whole thing goes over to the guy and tells him that he really needed to get back up as... 'you took that seat from that pregnant little girl!'.... LOL. Ya. I know all about that. 😅

You will be glad of a young looking face when you're 70! Why do you need a chimney? Are you going to have a wood fire? Here in Canberra they are currently banning all wood fires because of the health aspect. They pollute the atmosphere and quite a lot of people die from the smoke inhalation.

Regarding your sunken tub.. Could you not just go to a recycle type store and find a used older fiberglass jetted tub and work with that? If u were in Virginia you could have mine, holds a 100 gallons but is bathrub shape.. Currently installed in a monstrously hideous framed decked which holds it (it jas a 4-6 lip around it. The baby blue tiles on the raised 'deck' I would also gladly pass on But really, it could just as easily have been sunk, were it not on the second floor.. Not as heavy as concrete n a way less hassle to put in. Or, a smaller hot tub liner. Just idea.. One question - you arent concerned you have no sheeting or gravel or silver bubble type insulation unfer thr subfloor? Not a buildet, just wondering.. Like yr channel/videos.
