This is a yoga nidra style body scan to sooth the nerves. This yog nidra includes a forest bath with a symphony of bird song to further enhance the state of deep relaxation in the central nervous system.
Yoga Nidra is a form of meditation that helps with insomnia, anxiety, stress, adrenal fatigue, ptsd and so much more. This 30 minute scan takes you through the whole body, systematically relaxing every part of your being. If you'd like to learn more about yoga nidra you can also lookup integrative restoration or iRest which is the life's work of one of my teachers, Richard Miller.
In this 30 Minute Yoga Nidra, Ally Boothroyd will guide you through a relaxation and visualization for the element of earth (prithvi), the muladhara (root/base chakra), and vata dosha elevation (wind/air element elevation). A gentle forest visualization will calm, ground and balance vata, sooth anxiety, nourish the anna maya kosha (physical body) and invigorate muladhara chakra.
Yoga Nidra translates as psychic sleep and is a systematic method of inducing physical, mental and emotional relaxation, while maintaining awareness at deeper levels.
As described by sparklingyoga: Yoga Nidra means Yogic Sleep, a state of deep sleep while you remain conscious. It brings an amazing clarity of mind, calmness and stillness. It is one of the deepest forms of meditation leading to supreme quietness and insight. The depth of Yoga Nidra is far beyond just relaxation. During a Yoga Nidra session, you leave your waking state, go through the dreaming state and into deep sleep state, yet remain fully awake.
The word Nidra translates to 'sleep' and is a systematic method of relaxation, inducing physical, mental and emotional relaxation, while maintaining awareness at deeper levels.
There is really no "wrong" way to practice, close your eyes and allow yourself to be guided into deep relaxation.
Yoga Nidra is a state of deep sleep while you remain conscious. During Yoga Nidra you can access many different states of consciousness. You might leave your waking state, go through the dreaming state and into deep sleep state, yet remain fully awake.
Scientific research has demonstrated that restorative power of just one hour of Yoga Nidra is equal to 4 hours of healthy sleep. This is why some people refer to yoga nidra as "bliss for your brain" or "divine sleep" and some translatations of yog nidra include "sleep of the yogi" and "yogic sleep" Tension and anxiety melt away with a profound experience of muscular, mental and emotional relaxation. Yoga Nidra is a state of receptivity and creativity, blissfully rejuvenating and restorative practice that will guide you into inner calm and a state of ease and relaxation.

I'm so happy to hear this River, this one is recorded birds! Often times I record outside so I can get the red winged blackbirds here or the howler monkeys in Costa Rica but with the new baby I've been having to record inside so I've been adding background tracks recently :)

Thank you so much dear Ally for making these videos. I am dealing with PTSD after almost loosing my life. My massage therapist recommended me yoga nidra to help me balancing my nervous system and find feeling of safety. I can't thank you enough for making these videos. It helped me to feel safe again, gently healing my body mind spirit. I appreciate your gentle approach, your beautiful gentle calming voice and slow tempo of the voice. It helps me to calm down from fight or flight mode. I feel it makes a big difference over time, it adds up the compound affects. I practice just over a week and I feel tremendous difference. This is perfect for a sleepy head like me who hates waking up in the morning. I wake up to my alarm, and instead of milling around attempting to wait for my brain to wake up and engage. I just head to my yoga mat, put in my headphones, get my yoga nidra blanket, booster, and eye pillow-and 30mins later I’m awake. Usually it takes me at least an hour and a half to feel like this. Thank you!

Dear Ally, thank you. I've only discovered you in the last week or two, and am so grateful I did! My energy has been feeling over stimulated as we're doing so much work on our new home before we can move in - a project I am absolutely Loving - but recognising the need to unwind, to ground myself and let go simply to sleep and remain well! Each yoga nidra offering a new found favourite. My two doggies and I went into the forest, laid down, took a nap while bathing in the symphony of sounds. Chai and Monty so enjoyed yoga nidra with Ally. I think I heard them snoring. Namaste 🙏☮️💜

I’m using these practices as part of recovery from long covid. I practice 3x a day. I found you as “suggestions” when doing progressive muscle relaxation videos on YT and, as soon as I found you I left PMR behind. I find your videos are the only thing that enable me to deeply relax and switch off. I’m so glad you’ve got such a large back catalogue as I’m working my way through all of the videos.

Hi I love your videos. I have been dealing with anxiety and post partum depression. My kids are 3 and 5. I have been on many herbs. I have been seeing a therapist, an osteopath and a herbalist/homeopath for insomnia and depression. Using your yoga nidra videos have been a hugs shift for me. I have been able to sleep better when I practice once during the day. Also if I wake up in the night and practice for even 30min I most of the time fall asleep but when I don't I am able to be peaceful in meditation. It really has made a big difference. I am able to stop and rest when I need to and I feel more grounded in general. I have been doing yoga for 15 years and I had no idea that this practice was around. I haven't explored other yoga nidra practitioners but I feel so lovely using yours I am going to stick with them for a while. Is it easy to download these from your website? Also thank you so much it seems like this is your true gift.

Hi Ally. I loved doing this yoga nidra today! I did it in my garden lying in the warm sun, with a breeze and the nature noises blended with the beautiful nature noises in the recording. I had a bit of a tension headache before I began, and now I feel much less pressure. Also during the practice today I had some involuntary muscle movement. Once with total awareness and it surprised me, and another time on the edge between conscious and unconscious states, which sort of brought me back to awareness. Refreshing and fascinating!

5pm couldn’t resist this one with the birds. I stayed aware for most of it and then drifted off. Now awake I feel great and relaxed! Thanks Ally.

2:20 Thank you for this. I enjoy learning how to bring this into my daytime routines. This was a lovely reset. I went deep in that I do not remember your voice towards the end but I was not asleep and " come back" feeling fully awake and hear your voice at the end. I look forward to diving into this further.
