Honestly surprised someone would say yes to a person who had to finance a $700 engagement ring. No way her parents would approve if they knew that.

1:45 True, but still today most entry level office jobs require a college degree. We interviewed recently at my job for an administrative type of position and they required a college degree, and automatically rejected those without one. Maybe that will change but the point is kids may be going to college just not out of route, but to get their foot in the door since not everyone wants to start a business and become an enterpunur or depend on feast or famin contract work.

@stevenporter863 yeah but as far as something like administrative, how likely do people feel they'll realistically feel they'll get a promotion without job hopping and are stuck with what I can guess low wage for administrative work, all which requires a college degree for which seems like a deterrent? In terms of administration, I wouldn't be surprised if the positions a rotating door mainly because of people quitting

I worked at a company as a machine operator for a few years. They hired me because I knew someone there and had similar experience with the exact machinery they used. All my coworkers had bachelor degrees because it was listed as preferred. This company also listed their security guards to have a degree related criminalistics degree or working towards it and it only paid $15 an hour. I just have a high school degree and was lucky to get my foot in the door since this position was $20 an hour.

I have been watching for a while, and normally do not comment. I wanted to point out something that I don't think gets enough consideration. While financially, it makes sense eating at home. For many, eating at home is emotionally painful. The eating out is possibly a way of "getting out", or avoiding something at home. Some it may be loneliness, in this case it may be the sense of inadequacy he may feel. Pure guess, but there is normally a compultion to making bad choices.

@ben3308
@ben3308 9 месяцев назад
Graham, although I'll agree that most jobs don't in practice require a Bachelors Degree, it is basically needed as a barrier-to-entry for most decent-paying positions these days. Do you need it to DO the job? No. But you need it to GET the job. How will the job know that you show up on time, have a good attitude, etc, if you never get the chance to DO the job? You need the Bachelors. In fact even then, most applicants have the degree, so it's hard even WITH it.
