Ernie's so cool. Respectful, honest, keeps the boys on their toes, keeps the train moving and most importantly, listens. He has traits that we all should take from. I don't think anyone could speak negatively about him.
I love this show. Baseball should definitely have something like this. Now those guys must have a TON of stories to tell with all the sitting and standing around they do. I miss Isaiah Thomas whenever he's not on the show. Articulate and analytical, with a comedian's timing. He knows how to tell a funny story and get big laughs.
I felt like John Starks was a bit nervous at the beginning but he got cooler as time passed by, I think it's great that they talk about New York and the Knicks on Open Court because usually they make fun of them since they haven't won rings in such a long time but Patrick Ewing, John Starks and the 90's Knicks deserve a lot more respect than they get I just wish they could get Patrick Ewing or Kobe on the show too.
Shaq is by far the laziest nna player ever. You can literally look up him talking about how he would foul shave so he wouldnt have to play certain games, broke his toe near the end of a season and instead of going to the doctor in the offseason in order to PLAY THE NEXT SEASON, he waited until the season started because "i got hurt on company time, im gonna heal on company time" so he missed like 1/3 of the season. Shaq was a fucking clown for like 90% of his career and wouldnt have a single ring without kobe and Dwade, and Dwade basically proved he didnt need shaq in the finals
And the Mark Jackson and the many others (especially on those Knicks late 90s Playoffs runs, there was always a NY guy, and playing in NY before the NBA etc on the opposing team wanting payback/revenge lol), especially because of the Mullin-Jackson Pacers connection also.
Mark Jackson up there with KenNY wouldve been great because they were a part of the Holy Trinity of the 1983 HS PG class along with Pearl Washington. They have stories.
When Kenny brought up Riverside Church AAU it took my memories way back. I remember when they came out west to play a tournament in Scottsdale. That was the team that had Malik Sealy and Twin Campbell. I also was taken way back when Grant talked about watching Georgetown and St John's play at the Garden in 84. I followed east coast high school basketball closely back then and remember how many great teams there were, especially the incredibly talented early 80s Dunbar teams with Mugsy, David Wingate, Reggie Williams and Reggie Lewis. Wingate and Williams went on to play at Georgetown. The Big East was loaded back in those days with Georgetown, St. John's, Syracuse, Villanova and more. I know I was just one of many people who would tune in to ESPN for Big Monday with a Big East game. There were so many great players in the conference then with Patrick Ewing, Pearl Washington, Chris Mullin, Walter Berry being just a few. Even the coaches were big personalities with John Thompson, Lou Carnesecca and Jim Boeheim running teams. St. John's was my favorite team because I really liked what a great shooter Chris Mullin was and what an impressive player Walter Berry was. The conference saw quite a few epic battles in those days and reached the peak in 85 when three teams reached the final four with Villanova pulling a historical upset over Georgetown.
I haven't watched even a second of an NBA game in at least, probably, 15 years. But I do enjoy these Open Court shows, and I was wondering if they're still doing them. All the ones that I've seen are from a couple years ago.
Yeah, I watch these shows but rule changes have ruined the game in my opinion. I stopped watching the NBA when the centers and other integral parts of the game were eliminated.
@@sw5401 The NBA has become soft. To be real it is an example of the PUSSIFICATION OF SOCIETY. YES, EACH GENERATION TENDS TO BLAME THE ONE B4...BUT MILLENNIALS AND THE ME2 MOVEMENT AND WHATEVER THE HECK THIS GENERATION IS CALLED TODAY IS INCREDIBLY DISRESPECTFULLY.
Mark Jackson didn’t do anything physically great, but a ton of things good! And his bball IQ was/is incredibly high!! I feel like Kenny rattled off too many things. Lol
I know right Kenny trying to downplay him. Mark Jackson was a bad dude his basketball IQ is up there and could get everyone scoring the guy is like 4th all time in assists
New York, New York! Yo KNY didn't mentioned the competitive IS8 summer Pro Am League in Queens! It was good to see the ultra competitive John Starks, who grew up n' Oklahoma, but embodies that raw emotions of NYCity 🏀...
Kenny Smith. Goes to show you how much timing has to do with life. Dude was in the right situation, at the right time. Decent guard for a great NorthCarolina team, then a decent shooter, if he was open, for a good Houston squad. If it wasn't for Hakeem and Horry, dude would've been out the league in 5 years. Now the dude's makin' lots of cash on TV. I ain't hatin' tho. I'm just sayin'...DAMN, that's alright.
@@CRedd9830 yea to say he woulda been out of the league is a stretch. He was your regular run of the mill PG in that era. If he doesn't play with Hakeem and win those rings he just has a normal career and we forget about him and he's probably doing local nba coverage instead of national on TNT
@@Ch3zzy Been there a bunch of times - don't like the place at all, though it has a couple OK spots, and the Museum of Science and Industry was nice to visit in my youth. It got DATED though when I went back to see it in the last 1990s or early 2000s though. 8-(
Shaq got it right with New York City players getting all that hype and media coverage in the biggest media market in the country. Pearl Washington was a magician at Syracuse but he did nothing in the NBA. Tiny Archibald and Marbury are the only New York City point guards to be perennial all stars
15:24 "Every third block there's a basketball court". In Indiana, there's commonly a half dozen hoops PER block, depending on the type of area - and some blocks it's a hoop on EVERY garage. And for Indiana style basketball in the NBA, there is no better example than Larry Bird.
lol that Starks dunk wasnt over MJ xD, Jordan was quite far away from the play and just jumped along as he got closer but he was 2 players away from Stark and the rim.
@@jamesvickers2026 horace got dunked on. MJ was help defense trying to rotate but wasn't there in time. Nice try tho, you just gotta look at it to know. Nice dunk tho!
How could you be the Mecca if your own team literally has sucked the life out of a basketball city. Literally 50 year losers. The Miami Heat has achieved way more in it's almost 30 years in the league than the Knicks ever could in their whole time of existence. If there's a Mecca it should be LA or Boston.
Say to ANY Knick fan: " 2 for 18" and they INSTANTLY know what you're talking about. Also where is Bernard King, Chris Mullin, Mark Jackson or even Rod Strickland to sit in on this panel?
Please don't give us that crap. He played basketball at North Carolina from younger years, up until college. It is like saying "Oh, Steph Curry is from Akron, Ohio"
I know he was born in NY, specifically Brooklyn. But it counts where you grew up, not where you were born. That is why I said, if you count like that Steph Curry is born in Akron, Ohio the same place as Lebron.
I don't know why Shaq is there lol It's like not fair to have him talk about New York guys, because you know in the back of his mind, he's like, these guys ain't as good as ME lol And lo and behold, that's what it turned into lol Well, coming back from Germany, I was making a name for myself in high school, but the New York guys got all the hype. And I seen them play, and they were alright, but not really that good lol They wouldn't even let me in Rucker Park, you too good lol
Starks got 15 minutes of infamy for a excellent dunk when Jordan was helping on defense. So, he has bragging rights for a very nice play. But, dude! STARKS(and the knicks) LOST THE GAME.
@@johnmayberry7933 I stand corrected. But, my point was, Starks' glory was for a brief moment in a lost series. I'll have to also say, that was a great dunk in traffic.
