I usually thread the hole and put a set screw with red locktight, they also make a pinless for the forward accumulator too.

What you are doing to retain the steel ball in the accumulator housing is called "staking" not "crosshatch".

Thanks for the video! Trying to help - correct me if I am wrong but more info might be needed at the end of this video. If you do not press the piston into the receiver further than you showed, the springs will be inside rattling around. I believe you need to soak/lube the crap out of the rings and then press the piston down until both rings of the piston pass the little bevel in the receiver. The piston will then be in contact with the springs and then it will move back and forth. Not sure the fluid in the tranny would get the rings set and the springs aligned if you left it to chance.

For that hard shift you also want to block that TCC regulator valve it could cause hard 1/2 shift also, I usually do all pinless in 4l60e along with TCC works great.

I wasn’t buying that “ball n swedge deal” I just drilled the hole with a 5/16 drill bit. Tapped a 3/8-24 thread. Screwed in 3/8-24 - 3/8” set screw with red loc-tight. Still a good share! Larry

I have a 2003 4l60e, wondering if replacing accumulator will fix my issue. Iam having a harsh shift from 1-2 but it’s not a hard thud shift, kind of like a soft but uneven smooth transition to 2nd. Is this about the same symptoms that would be considered to replacing the accumulator?????
@howtofrank502
@howtofrank502 4 года назад
Sounds like your accumulator to me! Mine wasn’t a “hard” shift, but it was uncomfortable to me (I’m very picky with transmissions lol)
@maxt3592
@maxt3592 Год назад
It’s called staking the check ball and there’s nothing wrong with your accumulator you probably want to check your accumulator valve in the valve body👈🏻😎

I get what ur saying but what about the second steel ball they also give u is it just for fitting purposes or ?
@howtofrank502
@howtofrank502 4 года назад
Sorry for the late reply! The second ball is for a 700R4 transmission. This kit is universal, so it will work on a 4L60E and 700R4!

Is it adequate to punch the ball down inside the pinhole or is the cross hatch required?
@howtofrank502
@howtofrank502 4 года назад
Sorry for the late reply. While you have it open, please cross hatch it! If the ball pops out, the accumulator will fail. Plus that ball will disappear inside of your transmission fluid, could cause some damage!

08 Tahoe 4l60E I did the upgrade today didn’t work for me . Do you know why my accumulator come with the inner spring only . Do I have to get another spring for this kit ?
@howtofrank502
@howtofrank502 4 года назад
Hey there! When removing your accumulator from the transmission, was there only one spring inside? It is okay to reuse them if necessary. The piston kit doesn’t come with replacement springs, but a entire accumulator will.
@raudelacanda7794
@raudelacanda7794 4 года назад
FrankiesFixit yes only one . I reused I put everything back but didn’t work for me . Now change from 1-2 higher rpm .
@raudelacanda7794
@raudelacanda7794 4 года назад
FrankiesFixit also replaces the tps sensor. It is not all the time the hard shift from 1-2 is only first drive after the car warms up shift Normally from 1-2. Any idea?
@howtofrank502
@howtofrank502 4 года назад
What’re the miles on your truck? It will be a firmer shift but nothing “hard.” I would check your A and B shift solenoids, one may be failing. Did you swap your filter?
@raudelacanda7794
@raudelacanda7794 4 года назад
FrankiesFixit 180k miles. Yes, new filter. Firm shifts not hard .no check engine light .
@johndeleon1462

It is only noticeable at low rpms around 3k, all other gears shift fine

john de leon hey there! Sorry for the late reply. This sounds like the accumulator May be your issue! Also replace your A and B solenoids, and filter while you’re in there.

Hey John. My 2005 Silverado z71 does the same. It hard shifts from 1st to 2nd gear at low RPMs only. Did you figure out the problem?
@johndeleon1462
@johndeleon1462 3 года назад
@@Miguelgarcia888 iam pretty confident that it is accumulator, and good idea to change solenoids whilepan is dropped just to make sure. I haven’t even done it yet and I still drive with transmission doing the exact same thing, and it has never been a major issue to me. I’ve prolly put 5k miles on it with this issue
