I know this is an older video, but incase you were still wondering about valve seats on VP heads, the hardened seats were only on the HO motors. The intake floor hump was there to clear P-pumps in other applications, from what I understand.
@@CUTTERUPROB You bet, I’ve heard there’s a different turbo and maybe injectors. I’m weighing getting a 3500 HO vs 4500, coupled to the Aisin. Thank you for your expertise.
Hi Rob, do you ever do any port & polishing on these heads? If so when you do a video would be great. Keep up the awesome content. Loving the channel. Thanks
You mentioned in a different video 03-04 spray pattern matches the 6.7. So could I throw a long block into my 03 shorty and just swap over the injectors an valve harness or is there more too it?
Great video and lot knowledge ,congrats my brother ,just and question ,I have a 2008 isb 6.7 and I want swap the manifold and turbocharger from my engine and put the 5.9 one. This will work ?
Hay Rob, great info. I need a new head for my 2007.5 pickup and dodge lists it as having its own part number, then 2008-12, and 2013-18 being different as well. Can I put a 2013-18 head on my 2007.5? Do you know what the difference is between them?
Hey rob, I have a 05 5.9 block, and a 6.7L head. Late 5.9 injectors/late pistons. Would I run into any issues running this head??? Concerned about the steam ports....Would I want to go with a 5.9 or 6.7 head gasket? The injectors fit in the 6.7....but do the feed tubes as well? Is there any other port differences? Thanks for the help!
Have you dealt with any aftermarket blocks, heads, or cranks? When I do my 6.7 build I want to buy new so I can stay standard bore easily and minimize how much the block and head are surfaced, but the aftermarkets are much less expensive, mainly the blocks. My local machine shop that deals with a lot of commercial and industrial stuff has sold a few with no issues. He said they are usually heavier because they build up problem areas mainly in the heads.
Great video bud was wondering I have a 04 common rail wanting to 6.7 swap it was told I could use my 5.9 head what would be best my 5.9 head or the 6.7 head with 5.9 injectors also what all would I need to accomplish the swap
if you buy a 6.7 you can just put your 5.9 injectors right in the 6.7, so basically just use the 5.9 fuel system , wiring and ecm from he 5.9 on the 6.7 long block
Are the steam port holes drilled straight through to where the valves are? Or are they connected through some sort of channel? Or possibly to a coolant port?
Doing a vp44 6.7 will be the same as doing the 6.7 ppump with a couple less steps. I will do a over view. And maybe build one after I get the ones I have planned to do done
@@CUTTERUPROB That may be handy for me. May buy a rebuilt, or used 6.7 short block. Then reuse all my 5.9 stuff in and around the head. Get displacement and save money. Sounds do-able.
hey can you visually see the difference between a 5.9 common rail head or a 6.7 head from the outside? Im having trouble identifying a head in a cummins swapped ford. Also can you tell the difference between a 5.9 block and 6.7 block?
@@CUTTERUPROBthnks for the reply. I bought a ford f350 swapped with a 6.7 cummins. The guy said it was a 6.7, but im having doubts since it has a 2005 5.9 ecu. But i know guys run the 5.9 ecus for better tuning. I just need to be sure for buying parts and tuning, but i dont want to remove the head to know for sure. the block can also be either a 5.9 or 6.7, i just dont know
Hello Rob, I have a 24v 1998 that has low compression and I was thinking instead of rebuilding this engine, swap it with a 2007-2010 6.7. Can i use the 6.7 head with my VP44 and injectors or do I need to use my 5.9 head?
@@CUTTERUPROB I should be able to use the front timing cover from my 5.9 and the same 46re transmission correct? The questions is if the VP will fit with that head since the VP head has a notch in it.
If you want the 6.7 ppump build the button end will be the same. Idea and then put the 12v head on. Basically the engine in my race truck. But i can some videos on it
What RMS should a Cummins cylinder head be? If theres a specific one.. this new cylinder head i got is really imo very rough.. supposed to be “bolt on” Id send u a picture if i could.
@@CUTTERUPROB 12 valve. Its a Hamilton cams cylinder head company. Its brand new but never saw a surface thats this rough for a bolt on head. I worked on mostly gas jobs in the machine shop many years so it looks strange to me
@@CUTTERUPROB yeah ok I’ve got one coming from power driven diesel that’s an Indian head and at first was a bit worried but they assured me they are a good head so I’ll take there word on it.
The 5.9 isbe rear gear drive whish were only built in Darlington UK had the steam holes in the block and head as well as a360deg crank thrust all the same specs as later 6.7.and the 5.9isbe uses 2 sizes of head bolt unlike the USA qsb5.9.usa only got 5.9isbe as industrial engines and the data plate of all Darlington UK engines is silver unlike USA built black data plates
@@andreasseibel4413 you have too as the 6.7 bore. 5.9 gasket hole is to small. But if you use the 5.9 head you have to make the oil hole line up better for the head oiling
@@truckon247 if your running in the 2014 truck. I wouldn’t screw around with it. If you want to run the 6.7 short block in a 5.9 truck it worth the work.
@@CUTTERUPROB right on. Thanks for the reply. I'm wanting to build an aftermarket manifold for my truck, but I only have a 5.9 manifold with a T4 flange. Building a t4i flange isn't an issue, im just hoping to verify port layout lol
@@CUTTERUPROB do you know the part number for 5.9? Do you use sbi seats? My machine shop say they put the oversized seats from propane applications. Drove an hour to this guy that’s supposed to be the best around only for him to tell me the seats on my common rail head isn’t stock. He said all 5.9 and 6.7 have integral seats he’s never seen seats on stock heads. 🤦♂️ he mostly does 12v and older 24v stuff as far as pickup engines it looks like. Sending him some of your videos thanks for your videos explaining things
Only thing I have to say that’s backwards, is that 6.7 injectors will work just fine in a 5.9 and need to be tuned out. 5.9 injectors will not work however in a 6.7
I have been trying to find someone that can tune them, I believe firepunk can do the tunes for it but I’m not 100% sure. I’ve been wanting to do the 6.7 injector swap though, I believe it would be a nice benefit on my 04.5.
I'm just asking again about this head so those steam holes won't affect anything and the oiling hole will line up so I won't have any oiling issues I'm only asking cause I already have had my block fire ringed just the block I still gotta send the head off to get surfaced its brand new
Have you ever seen any issues with the steam ports from the 6.7 head on a 5.9 block? Would there be an issue with fire ringing and running a 6.7 fire ringed gasket?
