They have to push these games out once a year and if there's anything I've learned about EA games in general, but the NHL games specifically, they are totally content with half-assing it due to the time constraints. I mean Christ, I can still recognize the same animation of a player going into the box to serve a penalty that they've had since, like, NHL 10. It's never changed. Acquiring these things at this current point in time, is definitely a bridge too far.

mxsmsmike hey, I'm on your side. Like I said "if ea wanted to create a good nhl game they wouldn't make as much money". I would personally love ea to make a fun/good nhl game but that's not what makes them money. What makes them money is HUT and new customers, not gm connected or better be a pro. More flashy customization makes entices new customers, and I don't even need to explain HUT
... So by your rationale, it doesn't have to be a fun game that's good... Just more customizable? They need to make a new game... There were some great ideas in this video. EA just wants to make a new game and release the same one for 5-7 years with tiny little changes. That's what truly makes them $$$. They don't have to inovate every single year with a real new game...They can just update last years cover art, and call it a new game.
I wanna see: more signature shots. Like how eichel shoots. Better be a pro! I want to see all star game, to see if you made it or not (all star in franchise too) and practices! Practicing would see what your additude would be. And therefore, the draft would be more accurate.. New overalls? Like snapshot accuracy, snapshot power ect. That is what I want!
I'd like another skating overhaul. The only thing realistic about the current skating mechanics are the crossovers. The forward north south skating with the puck looks nothing like how kane, McDavid, pasta, kuch, or how anybody good, skates with the puck. It looks clunky and robotic BC literally every player in the game skates that way. They need to get a couple superstar players and have them skate around while being motion tracked and then implement it into the game. Also annoying how players that are 5'10 and under have this weird style of skating that also looks really unrealistic. Idk maybe I'm just too picky because I love the sport and the game but I just want a good representation of the NHL in the video game itself.
Its funny how in Be a Pro, if you go to “Milestone Tracker”, you can see that there are “All- Star Game Selections” but when you get to the Actual All- Star weekend dates, there isn’t a single thing to do.
What I want in franchise mode: 1. add NTCs and NMCs 2. Option to set custom lines as "best lines" so injuries don't reset lines 3. Make the scouting and coaching elements about choosing strategies instead of just clicking shit

I believe that there should be a goalie overhaul in nhl 21. In nhl 20 there are too many good shots that are easily saved 90% of the time, but in real life have a good chance at going in. This would force players to be more creative with the puck rather than cross creasing only. For example: imagine being on a 2 on 1 odd man rush, in nhl 20 you have 2 options force a cross crease or try to pull off a deke without being stopped by the defencemen; in real life (at least with a good shooter) shooting the puck on a 2 on 1 is smart idea if the defender is stopping the pass. In conclusion, there are to many "glitch goals" in the game when there should honestly be none, after all there is no shot or deke in real hockey that goes in 100% of the time.
In addition to taking away goals that go in 100% of the time from the game. They should open up different chances to score on (I.e look at Jeff Petry's goal against the penguins in the play in round where he shot the puck from the side of the net and sniped short side over the shoulder/a shot that literally has a 0% chance at going in in nhl 20)
Marcus Henderson it would be cool to give players more unique specialties in eashl, like a deadly "ovi like" one timer, or a "Auston Matthews" like wristshot, or Patrick Kane hands. Basically a more impactful specialty and perk system than they have now
Josh And I completely agree with you for opting out of buying the game. For me it's not just that GM connected would absolutely improve my experience of the game, it's that EA through their actions have proven that they dont care about their hardcore fanbase that buy their game every year. When you look at games pre-2015 you had a sense that EA listened but since then it's different.
Josh NHL 14 is the only thing that goves me hope for NHL 21. That year was the last year on old gen similar to NHL21 and they really went all out and produced an amazing game. If they can do that it would really help carry the hardcore fans to the new gen.
Some things that I would like to see: Goalie mask creator should be added, more options for created teams so the goalie gear is uniform. More team names and custom logos. They have a Deer head available as a logo but you can’t name the team Bucks or Deers... Why is there even a random mascot for my AHL affiliate, that I can’t even turn off? That’s so stupid, I don’t know if that has been patched but I abandoned my created team expansion when I saw that, that abomination was around the ice. Bring back so you can choose your own number when playi n Be A Pro, the system that’s been in place for the last 5 years is just dumb. Edit: You now get to choose your preferred number but if that is taken you get assigned something close to what you chose. With players that doesn’t have their photo available, just use the game model as a photo like in a be a pro More options to change appearance on players, sometimes they have hair that doesn’t really fit with how the player actually look. Why are the players and coaches talking to me like I am not their boss? I am the fucking GM, have some goddamn respect.
James Fitzpatrick Yes, a preferred number but if that number is taken you get the first closest available number. Some are not as picky as I am but for example; I like the number 13, but if it is taken you can get like 12 or 14, I don’t really like them and when I play I’m just going to be annoyed that I didn’t get to choose what number I wanted instead. I remember back when (I think nhl 13, it was definitely back in the PS3/360 days) you could go to jersey numbers and just choose whatever was available just like you can in GM mode.
I’d love to see the ECHL in Be a Pro and Franchise. I don’t want my 55 overall medium elite goalie to just sit in the stands in the AHL for two years of his ELC, and then demand, y’know, the sun and the moon because he’s a medium elite. No, lemme send a guy down a league if I don’t have room on my AHL team, so that he can play. The leagues are already in the game, why not use them? Also, add the AHL logos to Create a Team. Please.
FUN should always be the top priority of any video game. I think the little things (that were removed to my dismay) like Winter Classic mode, glass breaking hits and hits over the boards were super memorable and fun to experience.
Ikr, the simple things are the best. They over think game modes and they're never fun anymore. The 2k games were my favorite. Zamboni mode. The winter classic. Breaking the glass. The 4-4 pond hockey and 3-3 mini rink where it was so easy to check people out of the rink. Those were just fun game modes. EA has forgotten what it's like to make a game fun

The Stanley cup raise animation pisses me off cuz they have the same one for each win and with the candler trophy in the memorial cup of be a pro they don’t even kiss it they just bring it down to their face a little

In NHL Slapshot, you could play in it's be a pro mode from Peewee Midget leagues to the NHL. I loved that, because it gave me a positive view of a life that wasn't available in VA at the time. Example :Out of all of the kids in the school system during the Starter Jacket craze, 2, a whopping 2 kids has hockey starters. Out of a couple hundred. Speaking of that, what about something to help the jersey concept guys and girls out there? It would be a way to show off their creations in a more real and functional setting, and gain attention, maybe ( I'm not all that versed in it yet ). Anyway, the main reason I wanted to comment was on Corwin's hair. Can it get anymore awesome? I'm seriously jealous man. Good on you bro! 👍
Id like to see a few changes to the game 1. sharable rosters: there is so many people in the chel community that make some crazy teams and rosters, why not allow others to experience the same. 2.Improved trading: The trading system in NHL kind of suck, like Z says in the video the whole trade block bit doesnt really work a good portion of the time. 3. Franchise mode rework: he main thing that I play in all of the NHL games is franchise mode. It hasnt really changed since the earlier days of the NHL games. Some kind of upgrade or rework would be great. If not NHL 21 than hopefully in the future. 4. Be a pro: Be A Pro needs a rework as well, My character with 110 points in a season, shouldnt be on the 3rd or 4th line. I would also like some practice modes to gain chemistry with certain teammates, and improve the skills and OVR of my player.
I agree with 4, i was in the playoffs (conference final) leading the team in points and for some reason i was moved to the second line. I had a good point streak going as well.

I hate how inconsistent EA is with old teams and jerseys. Like there's legit old jerseys that are popular that teams are missing but then every team has their 2017 Reebok jerseys that look exactly the same. It's so dumb. It's not hard to keep old logos and jerseys like Atlanta. I think they have the Atlanta Flames but not the Thrashers?
I'd love to have a create-a-team as deep as NBA 2K's in NHL, where I can actually upload my own logos instead of using their lame generic logos and actually edit the ice beyond the center logo layout. Like maybe let me put the name of the arena around the center circle like every actual hockey team does? I just want my expansion franchise teams to look believable when compared to their NHL counterparts is all.
Franchise Mode Wishlist: - Smarter AI team roster and cap management. - Fix drafting and player development so there are more quality defensemen and fewer elite forwards. - Make stats more realistic. I play with sim scoring set to medium and almost half the teams in the league average 3.5+ goals per game and the Vezina winner is lucky to have a .910 save% - Ditch the line strategy preference feature. I'm tired of elite players who only fit on my fourth line because they have a dump and chase preference. - Winter Classic/Stadium Series and the All-Star Game. How is this not already a thing??
On the line chemistry thing, I’d love to be able to ask a coach or a player to try and change that specific thing. Like, if the only thing holding a player back from being a perfect fit is whether or not they like to dump the puck or not, I’d love to be able to ask them to try carrying it. If it doesn’t work out, then let me decide what to do.
Add player traits that determines how the players play on ice. Such as a “dirty” trait which makes a player more likely to do something dirty. an “enforcer” trait so whatever player has it is more likely to stick up for teammates. Among a ton of other potential traits that can be added

Three team trades custom goalie masks/gear(different strapping options (leather vs velcro, outside knee flap, no outside knee flap), different goalie masks (CCM, Bauer, etc) better be a pro (discussed) slightly less aggressive poke checking penalties (minor add) teams actual goal songs. Edit: add back the older Bauer pads (nxg, rector, supreme)
What you said about gm mode was spot on. Scouting in NHL 20 was an absolute pain in the ass. They need to add more stuff to make this mode a bit deeper. Give players more opportunities to change things. Playing gm right now feels like being in a frame that forces you to do the same things over and over in the same way. Also winning games, series or cups just feels random. I had powerhouse teams lose multiple seasons in the first round, while shitty teams won the cup for me.
Also would like to see No Trade Clauses add to Franchise mode. I mean it's a little too easy to save a franchise like Minnesota when you can just trade Suter and Parise and thats it
It’s a bit crazy that the 2K series for NBA has NTCs, bird rights, a luxury tax, and a moratorium period that are all realistic while NHL has basically nothing on the GM side that accurately portrays management decisions. EA has to step it up
Jordan Lacoste Excactly. They added in the expansion mode for franchise couple years ago and i feel i've never been more frustrated in the series. Like when i saw they had realistic NMCs next to players names when you need to choose who to protect , and then not to bring it further to the game mode

Have a real Nhl All-Stars Games with all the skills competition and a system that keeps the record that you do each year on the All-Stars Game on GM mode will be awesome
The whole series has been a huge letdown for the current gen. They basically stripped away eveything that made the games fun on PS3, and tried to add something back every year. NHL 21 is gonna be the same exact game as last year's version, everybody knows that.
The need to have an outdoor game mode like the winter classic or stadium series. Nothing crazy but if they can do ones and chel, they can do an outdoor game.
I like a lot of these ideas. (Except for HUT gambling) but I want a way to play the currently offline game modes cooperatively with a friend. Like instead of having to play couch coop or share play let me just play franchise mode online with my friends.
For Be a pro I need just these things. 1. Better before draft Maybe I just want to start in my hometown or just somewhere else in Europe 2. Better draft In GM mode, you can talk to players in draft. Why cant be on the other side. And I want to see more than scroling numbers. I want to see who is picking right now and some text about it. Like Oh, this team talked to me or This team wants to draft center, maybe I am the one or This team just traded to move 10 spots up, if they draft me, they really like me. 3. Better lines and leauge changes If our team loses, coach changes lines. If I am on cold streak, he can move me down to 4th line, or maybe to AHL. 4. Better free agency and trades In free agancy, I can argue with the team about money or lenght. I can get NMC and I want to somehow spend money I make. If there are rumours about trading me, I will know. 5. More information We live in age of internet and I cant look at other teams lines, what is going on in the leauge...
EA licenses a ton of music for Madden and FIFA, but barely any songs in the NHL games. I'd be fine if they kept it that way if they would actually get the real goal songs for every team. At least they have the goal horns, but I want it to feel more real. Or they could have an option similar to what MLB The Show does that allows you to upload files to customize your walk-up/homerun song.
I would like them to add more mascot bodys and heads. more logos. mabe a thing we're you can upload your own logo but it gets reviewed by someone first. NBA 2K20. and if they added chl goal horns or made chl arenas not default arenas. and maybe they could add a build an arena mode we're they give you different styles to choose from kind of like in fortnite build an umbrella but they have that with like boxes. outside building shapes like they take a skyline and of every nhl create a team city they have and take a skyline and then add the building shape and people walking into it. that would be so cool. and maybe they could make making a player like they do in nba 2k20 because i love in nba 2k20 how you can make the shape of your players head and they could also do that with madden 22. also make a my build so we can make our players potenial like we could make a fast player build like connor mcdavid and Quinn Hughes. a sniper build like Brock Boeser and nathan mackinnon. A dangler build like Elias Pettersson and johnny gaudreu. A Defensive build like Tyler Motte (and by defensive build i don't mean like a defense position like it can be but like i mean the player is good at defending) and Chris Tanev and victor hedman and Alex Edler. a Phyiscal player that everyone hates like brad marchand and milan lucic and matthew tkachuk and zack kassian. a playmaker build like connor mcdavid and Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson. for goalie builds you could do them around attributes like good reflex. good pads. good blocker. good gloves. etc. and maybe with the image upload thing you could add a make a mask mode kind of like the shoe creator or how you can put images all over your nba jersey but do that with masks so we can finally have cool masks that don't look the same as other goalies masks. and for the image thing we could finally add custom logos that show the name of the arena on the ice. PLS DO THAT EA FOR NHL 21 OR NHL 22 (Edit) and add all star games like NHL Legacy Edition has and to make it even better add a skills competion. I have NHL Legacy edition and they have the story mode of life as a pro. bring some fetures that we're in nhl legacy edition and put them in the game but keep everything in nhl 20 but just add to it.
100% agree the outdoor rinks should be in way more cooler settings. Like Lake Louise. Or tops of random mountains. Even objects or hazards in the ice. Like a rock structure or large logs/trees you have to avoid. No point in having a shinny rink that is a perfect NHL rink.
I'd love to see a change in the AI especially playing in Be A Pro and Franchise. When it comes to penalties (I know you can change the degree of frequency) it seems that attempting to do anything besides body check will result in a stick infraction until you hit higher levels in the NHL. I'd as well would love to see Be A Pro return to the "Live the Life" style of play. It wasn't so in depth, but it added just that little bit more to the game mode. As well, maybe a bit more character customization would be a nice add to it. And for creating a team, expand your name list! Goodness, you try to give a team a name to match a logo, and then it doesn't exist for your sportcastor to call. Plus release more logos, and allow for better arena customisation. Change the scoreboard and sportcastor as well. I still expect to hear the original castor from a few games ago, and I look in the corner for the score.
I think something cool for gameplay would be an intensity bar. Each game would start at 50 and meaningless games would go below 40 and a game like game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final would be at 100. The higher the intensity, the less penalties, more and bigger hits and a lot of scrums.
One thing I want added to career mode is going further back in your career. Kinda like Wayne's hockey game where you were a kid playing on the pond. It could add to the story mode I feel.
Realistic contracts in Franchise Mode such as No Move/Trade Clauses, performance bonuses. The NHL All-Star weekend. The actual Seattle Kraken draft in the second year of Franchise mode. Being able to upload our own logos (at least in Single Player modes).
I loved playing be a pro but now it’s just plain and bad for me I would like and story mode and to be abale to negotiate a contract and as the offseason goes on get more offers
I’d really love them to update the uniforms. They add whatever mandatory updates and then just leave stuff from past games. An over hull of what jerseys you can choose from would be great. Also, I wish they could do the legendary/retro teams like in NBA2K. I know there’s rights and licensing that goes into that, but imagine how cool it’d be, instead of having random legends to have the 70, bruins, 85 oilers, all the amazing 90s teams (pens, wings, avs, stars etc), and so on... NBA2K has so many features that I’d love in a hockey game. I’m not a huge basketball fan but their game seems to get a lot right
I could copy and paste my lists from every game since NHL 16. But going on DZ's first point about something similar to 2K, a street hockey and a roller hockey mode online would be so sick
my personal list: - be a pro - an actual story - let us play in the KHL, SHL or liiga, not just the CHL - make the draft a cutscene, not a glorified loading screen - a record book available to the player, and when we break a record make it a big deal - if we have a HHOF-worthy career, give us a short cutscene that shows our picture in the hall of fame and give us a banner raising ceremony - winter classic, stadium series, and all-star game events (on top of that, please give us all-star game jerseys to use in HUT) - make rivalries between teams more heated, involving bigger hits and line-brawls - contract negotiations, allow us to take team friendly contracts so we can save cap space, sign more players and go for a cup - if we are traded to another team, give us some sort of standing ovation when we return to play against the team that drafted us - let us train 1 on 1 with our goalie - some sort of fight practice so we can improve our physicality (i don’t play franchise mode enough to give any real feedback) - HUT: - remove DDA ffs - better odds in packs (pretty obvious but it’s never gonna happen) - world of chel: - literally everything you mentioned - draft champions: - don’t force us to select from a certain type of player (young guns, veterans, snipers, etc.) - in general: - give us realistic hits, i don’t want to be hit by some 185 pound 19 year old and skid across the ice like ive been hit by a truck - go back to the normal broadcast graphics, having the score on the bottom of the screen looks awful - do something about the hideous player models for christs sake
I agree with you definitely on Be a Pro a 90 overall Center should not be only getting 2 contracts and i want to be able to experience of being drafted
1. Outdoor game stadiums 2. Full all star weekend 3. Love the idea of a hub. Add a roller hockey mode in the hub 4. Allow fans of each team to vote on which throwback unis they want. A throwback sweater from last year is kind of pointless
Been wanting to be able to play in the world juniors in be a pro mode for a long time it makes grinding it out in the CHL more worth it and it’s a exciting time in junior hockey or makeup a Europe league or Canadian college/university league so that you get to choose between playing in Europe, college/university or CHL
I’d like more leagues in the game like SPHL, USHL, KHL ect, but also be able to play in those leagues in be a pro. I’d like to be able to negotiate a contract, reject the draft contract go back to junior. I’d like to have control of my ECHL team in franchise mode. Maybe at the end of a season we get a list of free agents that want to be on the team. Maybe the ability to retire numbers.
OMG YES! Especially the SPHL. However unfortunately, that's a whole mess in it's self. Granted those leagues don't have unions so it'd probably be easy to put them in. (maybe the KHL does) But TBH I think if you added just the SPHL and maybe the USHL it'd be fine considering the SPHL is Single A. And the USHL is the top tier United States Junior Hockey league. Now I could go on and on with this but EA should definitely add one minor league and maybe another junior league and make it more like MLB The Show.
Imagine having drop ins and ones in a neighborhood that’d be awesome and if it’s connected to be a pro so you have one guy throughout the game that’d be so cool
Add an actual use in Be a pro for your contract, like madden 04 you could purchase a subscription to a private gym to get better more efficiently. In NHL 04 GM mode, you had to unlock improvements to your team facilities (like you start at a used AHL bus for road games and work your way up to getting a private team jet) each facility, the more you upgrade them, would give you better boosts to your team. In NHL 04 GM mode you could even unlock little things to just make your office look cool, sure there wasn't much point, but it was something else to do and strive for to flex your GM abilities. In MLB for years, it shows players who are hot/cold streaks which was ALSO IN NHL04, like if they're on a hot/cold streak, make it effect their attributes by 1or2 or something.
Some sort of "bonus" system for you and a some one on your line in Be a Pro. As in if you get enough assist on goals by a some one on your line you get a slight bonus to your attributes when you play on same line in future game you play.
They need to make a more advanced auction for hut like maybe you want a certain player but you don’t know why overall you can afford for them so you type in there last name and it shows all of there cards that are on the auction house so you are no stuck trying to edit all of the search options that are already there just to find a player
Taking a page from NBA 2K20, before the game starts in MyCareer you could do a "Shootaround". It'd be cool to skate around maybe interact with team members or casually shoot the puck for about 20-30 seconds before puck drop. Bring back practice mode for hockey league like from NHL 14, your created player in your team's arena just working on your craft on a CPU or player goalie (for those people learning the next big glitch goal 😒). Once more, customizable goalie helmets.
