I took hydrolyzed collagen for 4 weeks and by the end of it i had developed sleep problems and depression/anxiety. I then found out that collagen can cause tryptophan deficiency when taken every day because it has no tryptophan. I stopped taking it and eventually went back to normal after 6ish weeks. Please be careful to anyone who starts to develop mood/sleep problems after taking collagen supplements. Best to get it from food and remember, everything in moderation, not excess.
@@joesilkwood4958 Yup collagen has been used in tryptophan depletion studies to lower tryptophan levels. Because tryptophan is a major precursor to serotonin, you can really mess with your neurotransmitters which can lead to mental problems. Hopefully people who come to this video see these comments.
I have been consuming these things every day since I began watching your channel 4 months ago. Good to know that I've been doing it right. Thank you Thomas for changing the world for the better one video at a time and god bless you!
one again, THANK YOU TOM! What i love about this channel is the complete break down and science of how to be healthy it is one thing to go and buy such & such it is another to explain why we are buying these things and why we need it
I train in a fast state, after my work out I break my fast with a mix of the juice of one lemon (fresh squeeze), ACV, ginger powder, turmeric, and cayenne pepper, immediately after I drink my hydrolyzed collagen in water.
Hi Thomas! I would love to see a video in where you cover oil intake, timing and their individual pros/cons. Which fatty acid to consume when and why for optimal health benefits at different situations through the day. I really appreciate the content of your channel, Thanks in advance! Sincerely
Great info Thomas! Just started incorporating a grass fed organic collagen peptide supplement and excited for it. Funny aside-before my morning coffee, I find myself having to slow down these videos a tad for my own mental maximum absorption 😅
"hydrolyzed collagen means that it's the collagen aminos, the proteins, the aminos, right, broken down into a truly hydrolyzed form". So, hydrolyzed means hydrolyzed... and a s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d video. This guy has done some reading, obviously, but leaves me wondering if he talked that much when he was overweight. I could have done half a workout in the time he rambled on stating the obvious and marketing his "parnters"
11 videos in 7 days.. Thomas I am a loyal fan of you please know that YOU have changed my life !! I know one comment from one fan may not mean much.. especially if you are looking at RU-vid Analytics.. lol. But u do have 1.92 mill sub scribers and I watched u when only had 500k. Thanks so much for all your tremendous work! Especially when u know, got a hot wifi and kid in the background :P THANK YOU!
Video suggestion...part two of the collagen subject: different forms of collagen. The best of the best. E.g. pills vs powders vs liquid shots. Bovine vs marine etc
So cool, daily for 3 years I eat a raw garlic clove, I drink acv with fresh organic lemon and a scoop of bone broth in my organic morning coffee. It's a good feeling knowing that I've been doing it right. :)
You actully get the most collagen from Turkey,I made a 17 pounder, and I have a huge bowl of solid gelatin,it's amazing stuff,I'll be having a cup a day with a little salt and pepper for the foreseeable future.
In Armenian (and other ethnic cuisines of the world, I am sure) a heavy bone broth is eaten often with lots of garlic and lemon juice (and lavash bread but that's excluded in my diet version). This elixir is literally the fountain of youth and tastes amazing. Goes great with slow braised slices of beef tongue and other fixings like fresh herbs and radishes.
I was hoping you were going to cover not just the more popular Type 1 & 3 collagen peptides powder, but multi collagen powders as well and the different purposes/effects of each type in it (1,3,5,6).. Some insight for next time Thomas
Word of warning: If you have a sweet tooth that you thought you had under control, and try the Perfect Keto flavored varieties, your sweet tooth will come back with a vengeance. I bought three canisters on the black friday sale, and after using it for 3 days, I have such a craving. It's that good tasting. Next time I will get unflavored. If you're used to eating keto sweets you can disregard this message. Only talking to those who struggle.
I cannot find info on the types of collagen Perfect Keto provides in their powders. Most companies only put 1 type when there are at least 5 types that our bodies need.
Bone broth is some pretty amazing stuff! I make it twice a week in the crockpot. My back aches pretty bad sometimes and it 💯 helps with the inflammation
We use chicken, whole skeleton from roasts, & save the bones in the freezer from any wings or legs we eat. Once there's enough to cover the bottom of our pot, we cover with water, cut a lemon in half, sqeeze it in & add the skins (you can use 2Tblsp of apple cider vinegar instead). We then just simmer for ages & decant into containers whilst still liquid. We freeze some. It sets when cold into a gel. It's not pleasant by itself, but is nice mixed down by 1/2 with hot water, turmeric, pepper & salt as the morning broth drink. I add in some powdered bovine & marine collagen. You could add ginger, rosemary etc to taste. We use it plain in all sauces, & as a soup base. We add the plain broth to the cat's food also😅 (don't give to pets if containing any veges, especially onions or garlic)
Thomas what do you eat in a day? A video about that would be great. I seen a video when you said you don't consume very much Red Meat which butcher box is majority red meat. And if I'm correct I think you also stated you don't eat much chicken? I think your subscribers would love for you to do a what I eat in a day video. Lastly thanks for the info you share I have learned so much being a subscriber of your channel.
@@bazosmarek7981 at the time I was fasting a lot and in a deep calorie deficit, so I think it was just my body responding to the extra calories and protein. Now that I’m at maintenance calories and eating a more balanced diet, I don’t really notice a difference if I add collagen or not.
@@carminecaiazzo6770Sure, its very simple. Simmer about a pound of beef tendon under water with salt for several hours until soft. Season as you like with herbs and vegs. Simmering with other bones or meat adds to the flavor. Makes a great broth for beef stew and general use. I just drink as a soup befor a meal. In the refrigerator it becomes an very firm jello. If you reheat in the microwave be careful because bits of tendon can pop and spray stuff around, I normally reheat on the stove. I'll sometime place it all in a slow cooker and let it cook for 12-24 hours.
The day after my dermatologist informs me about a genetic condition which makes my skin and tendons loose by default and my mom tells me to start taking collagen as she does, Thomas uploads this. Absolutely amazing!
1 squeezed orange (Vit C) + 1 scoop of collagen. This is my mix. ...I also read the collagen ‘type’ isn’t as relevant as the marketing suggests. Taking any collagen with activate the natural collagen in the body.
Bio available silicon has worked wonders for me, got onto it due to chronic fatigue syndrome, energy sometimes goes through the roof and some people tell me I look 30 something, I'm 40. Through trial and error I found you need lots of bacon for the proteins (and maybe other things in bacon) and oysters for the copper content (I know this because I was litteraly craving copper pipes, I wanted to stick them in my mouth and suck on them, supplemental copper helped but oysters are by far the best, I also went anaemic which is really weird for a man, Ive read iron in its ferrious state is used to produce some types of collagen, so much for becoming iron toxic as we age, its probably more to do with the loss of collagen synthesis resulting in excess iron, from time to time I take a tiny amount of ferrous sulfate, b vitamins are likely involved also, essentially everything you become deficient in after taking large amounts of silicon are likely involved). If I eat to much silicon without the other co factors my kidneys start to hurt, I suspect its because without the other substrates the body has to dump the silicon. If I've eaten oysters and plenty of crispy bacon, I can take very large amounts of silicon and my energy goes through the roof, but I highly recommend organic bacon or you'll get depressed from the glyphosate contamination. That's my experience over 2 years of trial and error with bioavailable silicon.
Enjoying a bowl of manudo and checking off almost all the boxes. Tripe is loaded with collagen with a lemon and ovocato. I’m just missing the 5 berries
If I am already consuming whey protein as part of meals and post workouts, should I add collagen to a shake or should I take it "in place" of some of the whey?
Hi Thomas. I have a question for you. I am on the keto diet and have been since Oct 26. I tried a 24 hour fast which I started at 1:00 pm yesterday. This morning I woke up and as I usually do I checked my ketones at 11:02 which was 3.9. I decided to check my blood sugars and lucky I did because it was at 3.8! I had to break my fast and I ate a piece of chicken breast because I didn’t have fruit. I retested 2 hours later and I tested at 3.3 so I went to the store and bought some blackberries and raspberries which I ate. I went out for a bit and when I got back I tested again and this time I was at 3.4. I’m still low but now I have had dinner and just had some piggy puffs. I’m getting a little worried do you have any suggestions on what to eat to get my blood sugars up? Also, I would like to try fasting again but should I try an 18:6 instead?
Does it make much difference if a collagen protein powder supplement specifically states if it’s hydrolyzed or not? I love thrive markets brand specifically, tastes great, and the price is right, but doesn’t specifically say it’s hydrolyzed
Good stuff as usual! I still working on the traveling and the use of acv and turmeric. I’m having a little hard time falling in to a routine with that but I think is due to the holiday. I try toTravel light so the packets might be a nice option for me.
My mom is having issues with her scalp, itching mostly but not flaking. I've been thinking that there could be a collagen issue. Thought I might want to introduce a high quality collagen supplement. She already eats a fair amount of berries, could eat some more citrus and bone broth (I drink it almost every day). What do you think?
I'm a woman 54 years old. I'm currently trying keto with intermediate fasting. Please give me all your recommendations on everything I should be talking to get the best results for weight loss as well as staying healthy.
Hey Thomas I love your videos and you've helped me lose almost 80lbs over the last year. I have a question though regarding IF if I take Acetyl L Carnatine and Oxyshred will they break my fast? I'm trying to lose the last 20lbs and I'm struggling so thought adding these two supplements before my fasted cardio could help but dont want to be doing something detrimental like breaking my fast 4 hours early. Thank you for all your amazing knowledge and actually researching and showing research you are awesome
Collagen hydrolysate is a pretty handy supplement for sure BUT, you may be surprised to know that the hydroxyproline content 'can' be problematic for some folks as it can form oxalate crystals, (so watch your dosage intake) . just like Swiss chard, spinach etc. this is more for older or middle aged folks who may have accumulated calcium oxalate crystals over the years thus potentially harmful for stones in the kidneys, gall bladder, pancreas etc..
Just FYI you're part of our homeschool curriculum! Thanks a lot! We teach our girls that the human body is beautiful, complex, and needs to be respected. Idk what it is about your videos but they prefer you over Dr. Axe. I think it's mostly because you remind them of my husband 🤷♀️ anyway, thanks!!
I take 11grams of hydrolyzed collagen mixed with the juice of 1 entire lemon with water daily. But I've heard that you cannot mix hydrolyzed collagen with citric juices 🤔 is that true?
Am I mistaken to believe eggs are also a good source? I believe they also have a complete amino acid profile. Then again bone broth and bullet coffee w/ collagen is my go to since I religiously eat salads with lime/lemon, the occasional berries, and rare use of garlic. Speaking of which, would it be advised to use garlic moderately since it does inhibit genes that break down proteins? As always, great video and thank you for your diligence!
Anytime I can throw bones into a broth not only does it add flavour but collagen. Love it and it's an alternative to the anti-aging stuff you in the make-up sections. Any thoughts?
