Another awesome video. I clicked on it expecting something very different as I have a few rules I follow to live a happier life. Yours were some great examples of practical rules. Here are some of my rules which are a little more spiritual and may come easy or naturally to other people, but I have learnt them through recovery from alcoholism and addiction: 1) Attitude of gratitude - Remind myself I have alot to be grateful for, this leaves me feeling secure and fulfilled and not empty and and wanting. 2) Live in the present - The past is history, the future is a mystery, but the present is a gift and I can use it wisely 3) Don't judge other - Judging others takes energy away from focusing on how I can improve myself. 4) Don't blame others - I must face consiquences for my actions (or inaction). If I don't have have an emergency fund and they decide to recall my car, its my fault I never saved an emergency fund, not the car manufacturer 5) Be openminded - I don't need to be rigid and stuck in my ways, it will make me bitter if things dont happen how I would like. I can be open to new ideas and ways to live. 6) Courage to change - Life doesn't need to be boring, I can get the six pack, if I have the courage to do some situps. I can have 20 000 dollars if I save on takeout each week, I have the courage to change myself and my reality. 7) Listen to my needs - you touched on this. HALT is the acronym, am I Hungry, Angry, Lonely, Tired? and a bonus one: 8) Do the next right thing - Take the next step. Life is about taking action, it is not a spectator sport. I remind myself to take the next step, put out my running shoes, wash the dishes, phone to enquire about that sky diving experience, find out about availible appointments to fix my aching tooth. Have a blessed day and thanks for the video!!!

Who else struggles a lot in their sleep routine? I completely agree with Muchelle on waking up early, getting up immediately and going straight to the kitchen is really helpful. Wondering though how you can do that when you're stuck in an anxiety and strong palpitations? I really have bad anxieties expecially in the morning.
@hattiea
@hattiea 3 года назад
I personally can’t get up out of bed straight away. Instead, I sit up in bed, drink some water and do a mini morning routine including writing three things I am grateful for, a thought for the day (from greatday.com), language learning via Duolingo and meditation via headspace. I find this reduces my anxiety and allows me to start the day in a positive frame of mind. This is a routine that works for me so may not work for you. But just experiment with different things and you’ll find something that works for you. Good luck! 😁

Yoga nidra (a guided relaxation technique reminiscent of meditation) first thing in the morning and again in the evening will chip away at your anxiety. I had heart palpitations due to anxiety last year that did not allow me to fall asleep for up to two hours, and yoga nidra vanquished that and more, thank God. The best part is that there are tons of free videos here on RU-vid: ru-vid.com/group/PLqEWXVGDmfKRdbYmnV4hz2GRaqTQ3VrNp

I don't mean this is a mean way, but seriously - talk to your doctor. I used to sturggle to fall asleep and get up, which made everything worse. Endless cycle. I got in with a therapist, and I got myself on a low dose medication - the combination has been *life changing* in resetting myself and resetting goals. Also, remember - everyone is struggling with the world being what it is right now, and those with preexisting conditions are of course doing even worse. You're not alone. Try to spend some time determining your triggers and try to get away from them. I've stopped watching the news, I have really limited my social media useage and I'm trying to get outside every day Small changes help long term. Best of luck

Hey I am a long time follower of your channel. I am a college student with adhd and major anxiety. Being with major anxiety causes me to fret and worry about little things that If they cause me anxiety I will find a way to avoid doing that task. while living alone it is a major problem when I have to do it. for example if I have to call on the phone but cant do it another way, I will end up not bothering unless it is a life or death situation or I get someone else to do it. While keeping that in mind sometimes I struggle if I am the one that the other person needs. Not sure for others, but even the tasks that average people do daily is a difficult chore.

I love the way you put it clearly that this is a video on how to have a happier life, not a happy life. I really enjoyed your recommendation of getting up in the morning without thinking about it and just going to the kitchen. Getting up earlier is one of the harder things for me to do. Going to bed earlier is easier for me. You mentioned courage and doing things that you are uncomfortable doing: to just do it. Any recommendations how to get started or build up that courage to do it? 😊

@bhsprinkle

Agreed. Except it's every year that's difficult. I never have anything to look forward to. My life mostly feels like a blah. I don't have money for anything, I'm dependent on people around me, and my job prospects are always getting blocked. It's very discouraging. That probably one of the reasons it's hard to feel fulfillment and get out of bed. Sometimes I oversleep because what is the point in waking up when you don't have anything to look forward to.

@@CassieWinter Not much to say. I've tried to become a nurse aid and my instructor screwed me over. She was bias and wouldn't let me take the test for my license. I tried a few work programs. The first one was a youth program at 19. It went well. 3 months of answering the phone and taking down information for a public transportation place. Then at 20 I was in another work program. Only lasted 3 days instead of 8 days. Was picking through molded items and things in a Goodwill basement. Then I recently decided to attend college and they weren't what they claimed to be. The deadlines were so close together that I had trouble keeping up. When I expressed concern about it, some didn't care and others at the college only had the solution of dropping classes. I went from 5 classes, to 4, and then 3. But then I was so far behind and failing. They only told me to withdraw from the final classes so my GPA went unaffected. They weren't understanding or helpful or anything.

I adore you but I really wish "we" (productivity/wellness RU-vid) could stop talking about sleep the way we do. So many "how to wake up at 6am every day" and "get into a steady sleeping pattern" videos that are cute for RU-vidrs, self-employed people and college students... but completely unrealistic for the vast majority of the workforce. Many of us work shifts, even night shifts, we don't have the luxury to see sleeping and wakeup times as upgrades in our lives, and I don't think that lessens our chances at being productive or happy at all, actually.
@letsdomath1750
@letsdomath1750 3 года назад
Sleep is a vital foundation for everything else in your life. When you have a large sleep debt, life begins to unravel at the seams. And when you are getting optimal sleep, everything else is cake. If your current work schedule does not allow you to optimize your sleep-wake cycles with your natural circadian rhythm, that is fine for the time being, but don' let that be a permanent feature of your life. Your health and vitality are more important, and if a career change is needed, as drastic as that sounds, that may be something to look into sooner rather than later. For now, know that you can get plenty of restorative rest on command. You do this by practicing yoga nidra regularly. Think of it as a guided relaxation technique that is related to meditation. Here's a free playlist from the RU-vid videos that I found most helpful during a period where my sleep was elusive (thank God, it's full back): ru-vid.com/group/PLqEWXVGDmfKRdbYmnV4hz2GRaqTQ3VrNp.

Agree. I think there's a subset of people who find it fairly easy to wake up early or to change their sleep window, and there are others who end up with sleep debt, exhausted, or try as they might are completely unable to function properly in the morning. Waking up at 6am, if even achievable, doesn't mean everyone is going to have a productive morning. There are plenty of people who function much better at night and might benefit from a rich nighttime routine and sleeping in later instead, or who, as you say, might work shifts and have to fit things into their day at different times depending on their working hours. If you start work at 6, is life better if you wake up at 3? How much time with your partner, family, friends will you be missing out on if you need to go to bed at 8pm?

Throughout school I tried to organise, write and take notes in my mind rather than on pads of paper, but if we don’t tell any of our relatives, teachers or other “powerful” authorities or prove to them that we are capable of working at a more advanced level than other students, then if we do not do the oversimplified tasks we are ordered to do then we are sabotaged almost completely, made out to be criminal, insane or retarded because we the people are to believe and act like we are owned by the state and those that control the state. School is indoctrination in order to make us useful slaves with a future of abusively long work hours, no permissions to be activists unless we will be ineffective at it, and no hope for emancipation or true enlightenment. We are sabotaged because authorities are brainwashed to protect the system which must be sure that the student is useful on some level to the rich and powerful but useless to their families and those in the community who would liberate humankind. It is called “the republic” and Plato thought of it 2000 years ago, a corrupt political system to deny people self-determination as they are “too stupid and unwise” to decide their own fate. A very good solution to the above is the following (obviously not lead by me or other men) Women should study ethics, organisation, virtue, sociology and every utopian idea there is, they should refuse to be employed (or they will not have time or energy) and they can create very social Women’s groups that very virtuously yet powerfully work to rule the World in myriad of enlightened nurturing ways. Women have thrown off many of the chains of their slavers the patriarchy, they must now learn to rule and rule the World far better than our bloated, greedy, inappropriately lustful, warlike, corrupt men have for thousands of years. Not to rule like tyrants, but to educate the World about the ideal utopian Mothering of Nations.
