It finally dawned on me how the speeds change, with no normal transmission. I did it from process of elimination. Once I found out there no sprocket switching in either the chain drive box or the differential box. there wasn't many possibilities left. So I learned the names of the engine pulley friction drive called (drive disk) & the driven disk riding on the clutch called the driven disk,( I originally called it a little hard rubber tire). And I knew from listening to Jim talk about the higher gears wearing out the yoke as the favorite gears were always used in the same spot. I took it that moving over the chain box changes the speeds. So like I said after finding out there was no sprocket switching going on new the spot the two drive wheels meet would be different RPM's if your on the outer portion or inner portion. AT first ruled that idea out because I though the driven clutch wheel would hit the center, but I guess they fit all the movement in just 1 side of the under side of the pulley, called the engine friction drive disk so the center doesn't bother anything. SO I know if moving it toward the differential side or if the lawn mower (if laying down in normal position) RHS........ LHS if upward working on it. So when it's on the outside of the engine friction drive disk it goes faster . As I know with bigger tires on a car it goes faster and makes the speedometer off. Now back to work on it. No more Mysteries about it , at least for now. lol

Hello Jim- my 3313 seems to be all fine In first gear it crawls along ok. In 2nd start to make noise. in fourth there is a lot of grinding scraping noises. In reverse it is even worse. It goes but is making a racket. Everything looks in order except there is maybe 1/2" of play where chaincase slides back and forth on the axle. this looks like just shift linkage play
@jimjackson9381
@jimjackson9381 2 года назад
Well I would have to guess if you have that much play in your drive train you have issues inside of your differential I would think the chain is gouging and grinding on the inside of the case Cover unfortunately you’re going to have to tear it down to see what’s wrong, let me know what you find. @jimjackson9381
@jimjackson9381 4 года назад
derrek ritchie Hi it’s Jim Sorry about the delay getting back with you To disassemble your drivetrain there is no procedure per say to do this the easiest way is to stand up your machine to take off both tires in both wheel flanges remove your fender from your right hand side that’s the one with the differential bolted to it and the entire drive train should slide out of the chain case of course you’ll have to loosen the clamps on the boots so the axles will slide out of them I do have a couple videos and taking the drivetrain apart the series I am doing right now on rebuilding my 2012 if you go back to the beginning you can watch me take this one apart, it is much easier to do this if you drop the mower deck before you stand the machine up and get it out of your way, Again if you need any help please get back with me and I’ll reply a little speedier than I did the first time. Hi jim. By any chance what year the best snappers raiding lawnmower were made? Thank you
@jimjackson9381
@jimjackson9381 2 года назад
Well they were all good machines except for the turtles they built in 2013 and 2019 they came back out with the old style but some say they weren’t built as good as the older ones I don’t know but I would say anything between 2012 and probably 2000 they should have the most up-to-date safety features and least amount of issues now in that Time frame you’re only going to have the classic machines with the round tube the SR machines I haven’t made for probably 25 years and of course the turtles they quit making in 2018. Jim Now that is strictly a guess The earlier machines before 2000 are great machines and you probably wouldn’t have any problems with them I would just definitely stay away from the turtles.

I need some help Jim, I have the square tube type lawnmower and after I rebuild the differential gear case I'm having 80/90 gear oil leaking out of the differential side axle. What would be the cause of this? Also how do I adjusted the clutch brake pedal so it want just vibrate and rattle when it's running? Rockmart, Ga 5/16/2020
@jimjackson9381
@jimjackson9381 4 года назад
Stan Wilson There are some things you have to do to your differential cover in your chain case cover when you have them tore apart to keep the 80/90 from leaking out I go over that in some videos if you’re just putting it back together original you’re gonna have to use snap or double hot lube. Jim
@jimjackson9381
@jimjackson9381 4 года назад
Stan Wilson On your pedal vibrating you can try moving some of the ferrules to the backside of the pedal to see if it stops that but that is just a typical issue with the snapper pedal system. Jim

Jim- I have a Snapper lawn tractor. There is a square clamp (black plastic with a bolt & a nut) that holds the clutch cable How does this mount to keep the cable secure.? When i push in the clutch the cable moves, it is not supposed to do that because it has a stop on it the cable ,when the cable reaches a certain point it moves the clutch arm when tension is applied to the cable. This is just below the carbuerator . Hope you understand? William Davis. Columbus Ohio
@jimjackson9381
@jimjackson9381 3 года назад
OK that is working exactly the way it supposed to the plastic clamp or bracket is around your clutch cable your brake cable is hooked to the plastic bracket when you depress your clutch/brake pedal halfway that is your clutch if you continue to push it the clutch cable has a feral crushed onto it that Farrell grabs the plastic bracket and pulls the cable to apply the brakes. If it still doesn’t make sense let me know. Jim

Why didn't Snapper just put in a regular transmission? This one sounds like a complicated mess.
@jimjackson9381
@jimjackson9381 4 года назад
oh yeah By a regular transmission I guess you mean a hydrostatic, some snappers do have a hydrostatic transmission/rear end in them but most of them are non-repairable if they go out you have to buy a new one complete and they’re around 400+ dollars. The transmissions that are in most of the rear engine rider snappers and most snowblowers and a lot of lawnmowers are so simple to repair and inexpensive parts wise I wouldn’t buy one with a hydrostatic transmission in it.
