Our good friend Al Badham was a GREAT scratch builder, often trees, often structures, buy most often rolling stock in "O" scale.
We had a plan to do a show (or two) on Als models when he finished his 100the car. But he died in his sleep shortly after building the 98th car.
The "O Scale Guys" were (and still are) a loose group of guys who came together to build an O scale modular railroad in the 1980's The last "hangers on" are Steve Strebel, Don Henriksen and myself with Mike Neiderhauser and Don "Boss Man" Shaefer still about and still dropping in.
Decades later and 3 modular and 2 club layouts later the O Scale Guys no longer share a railroad, but each has their own "thing". Steve now rebuilding the great O scale layout he started dismantling, Don working mostly at the bench building On3 and large scale locomotives and cabooses, "Boss Man" collecting O scale brass and Mike collecting O standard and dreaming of a layout. AND us, screwing around at garagemahal and working toward a Garden Railroad.

I am glad you were able to share Al's modeling skills to the world. I get the sense he was more about the structures and the overall scene rather than having an "operational" layout. It's like, he needed a place to put the buildings, so he built a layout for them! :) I love the pickle cars.

I'm still amazed when I see how many pines trees he made. I took a long time to do my 6 O scales trees (I bought the DVD several years ago, and Al even send me an hand written letter with more explanation). @ToyManTelevision
@ToyManTelevision 4 года назад
Hi! Well that’s a bit of a story. Steve wanted to go there and couldn’t. But his son did! And so Steve would buy all the RIT shirts and stuff and even give them out. Al was a music teacher and jazz man. Played about 18 to 20 gigs a year. But mostly taught. Which is why he was so good at showing stuff like his tree video. Karyn too was a school teacher. Grade school. Taught English as a second language. I taught at several colleges but ended up at Brooks Institute, arch rival to RIT! RIT is the real deal. Brooks is mostly gone. There is a group holding something together as a program at UCSB. But Brooks died and we all had to move on. So I started a RU-vid channel. And believe it or not, that’s the short answer!
@theragingdolphinsmaniac4696
@theragingdolphinsmaniac4696 4 года назад
@@ToyManTelevision Thanks for the reply. For some reason Al looked familiar to me so I wasn't sure if he taught there or not. When I was working on both of my undergrad degrees at RIT, the College of Imaging Arts was a mess, probably much like Brooks is now. When I returned for my MFA in 2012, the school was very different because many of the faculty had retired and they brought in more technology-minded professors, so things are much better now. It's on track to live up to its reputation again. I even teach adjunct courses there from time to time.
