So... I've been a metal head for about 10 years by now. And a hip hop dude just made me discover one of the best bands I've ever heard. Thank you man, I guess what I'm trying to say is that not only have you built a great community, but have proven stereotypes about certain music genres to be wrong. Respect mate.
It's nice to discover new good band. I found Ne Obliviscaris on students off topic forum in my university 8 years ago when they had only demo. And lately I discovered Agalloch through youtube reccomendations. Welcome to the NeO club, I think you'll enjoy every song!
@@Alstadiwh Well the band isn't "new" in the sense that they've been around for quite some time, but they only started to release some albums since 2012.
i found them through become the knight. The contrast of tim charles and xenoyrs vocal styles and of course the violin guitar pairing make them one of the most unique progressive bands, ive got them up there with opeth and dream theater
You have now! 3 albums consistently of this quality to deep dive into too. Kinda jealous. They're a head trip first time. Excellent composition. Nothing is too in your face, so you can just enjoy that all of them are exceptional musicians. It's a death metal band where the bassist is truly amazing, the harsh vocals are the nearest thing to a weak point and the guitar riffs prove dave mustaine wrong about nobody soloing anymore. Yes they do dave, they just use em as riffs now and the actual solos are really ridiculous... Great band. Nice vinyl pressings if you can find one too: clean and crisp sound, no hiss, all the detail. I wish I could say the same for the wintersun lps I have. Even the fresh from nuclear blast brand new in cellophane live at tuska is crackly...
@@darkdeceptionkillsthelight9653 The Second album (Citadel) is an absolute masterwork. With 2 epic length masterpieces in Painters of the Tempest and Devour Me, Colossus. But the first album has some other great songs besides Plague Flowers. I always loved Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise, Forget Not (the bands name in english) and As Icicles Fall.
This song is also used in lectures at the Sydney Conservatory I believe! You should check out the track Painters of the Tempest, it’s a 23 minute track, and it’s made as 3 separate parts in one long song. It’s incredible! Tim Charles, the violinist/clean singer, is classically trained! So much talent in this band!
The band actually was not aware of that. On their NA tour with wintersun my friend who lives in toronto went to the show and met the band after the gig and none of them were aware their songs are being studied at the conservatory and they were super stoked to find out
This is the first time I've heard this band, and holy shit its so good, glad he did this reaction if not it could've been years before I found them, I'll definitely be looking at more, the violin makes it feel like a Symphonic/Folk/Viking Metal and the vocals remind me of Insomnium. I forget who else has that similar kind of growl but I want to say it was either Turisas or Ensiferum I forget but I think one of them is like that. Anyway love this song.
I'm jealous that you now get the chance to listen to Ne Obliviscaris's entire music catalogue for the 1st time. Literally every song they put out is a masterpiece.
What a ride huh? The violinist is also the clean vocalist. Drummer is Dan Pressland and has a channel with playthroughs on here. This song is studied at the Sydney Coservatorium of Music. edit Opeth for O
@TheKumitechamp Xenoyr (grunter) is only doing the grunts. Then you have Benji and Matt playing Guitar, Martino on Bass, Tim on violin and clean vocals, and Dan on drums ;) Epic lads.
Saaaaame! Been requesting that for so long! Now all I need to see is Devin Townsend, he could react to any DT song, as long as it's a live version it'll blow his mind and make him do a weekly Devin Twonsend react xD
For stuff that is much more recent I would have to agree. As for bands that are still releasing tho, I've got to say that nightwish has some inspired stuff in their backlogs even tho its a completely different feel to this. But nightwish is at least being recognised a lot more these days but Ne obliviscaris deserve so much more recognition
TheKarret yeah, they study it for music compostition, I found out about this song and band yesterday and in this song when the violin is being played over the metal makes me cry it’s so beautiful! People that say “Death Metal and Metal in general is a no talent, non musical thing” can kiss my ass.
People that are truly in to music get it, even when it isn't a genre they usually listen to. The problem is for the majority of people, music is just background noise. Few people critically listen anymore, and those that do, are usually making music.
Been requesting that for so long as well! Now all I need to see is Devin Townsend, he could react to any DT song, as long as it's a live version it'll blow his mind and make him do a weekly Devin Twonsend react xD
Devin Townsend is my hero!@@FlipperWolf Stormbending for the amazing video and message kingdom live emgtv for the amazing voice and emotions deadhead for chils A song of the album ghost for meditation And my favorite deconstruction the song for a crazy ride :D
I got to see this band live supporting Wintersun and I have to say it was almost certainly the greatest concert that has ever/will ever happen. They can pull off this incredibly layered and complex music live, perfectly, it is quite the experience!
Yaaaaaaay!!!!! Awesome! My favourite band from my home. You should also check out Forget Not - this is the song before Kaleidoscope on the same album. Greetings from Melbourne, Australia!!
O: Omnium Gatherum. I reckon you haven't reacted to them before? PS: Guys, Alex has already reacted to Opeth, give some space to other bands as well, geez.
THIS was finally a very wise and good choice. Ne obliviscaris are very special artists, with a great sense of the beauty provided by our wonderful world. I guess, those are the best words to choose to describe them
So you messed up a little bit, you didn't watch the live version. Here's what you need to do, get your homie(forget his name) and show him the live video. Keep rockin bro!
Hey, Alex, I've just seen the video and I want to share a great experience you made me remember :) It was last summer. I had just finished my Degree and I had to travel to the University to take my diploma, since I lived in another city. I took this album, which I heard for the very first time in my first or second year of the University, like a company for the travel and I listened to it in the car. There was a dangerous moment, where I didn't know where I was: the road was going, and going, and going, no more cars where on the highway, only mine, the music like an atmosphere, it started to rain, the mountains came in front of me and I felt like unexisting, only living while the music was happening. It was absolutely what feeling music means to me. I arrived to the university just when the album ended. I took some time inside the car, in silence, without thinking. My brain was a kaleidoscope. Thank you for making me remember that beautiful moment :)
FUCKING FINALLY! been trying for over a year bruh. THANK YOU! When you said "this makes me wanna move my head like this" I lolled. I think I love you man.
To all of you who thought, like myself, this cannot be performed live by human beings... Well there is a live video on their RU-vid Page so go and see for yourself if you want, you will not regret it, I promise It's unbelievable (like all of their stuff tbh)
this song is an actual compositional masterpiece , always good to see new people experiencing the wonder that is NeO Also, i suggest Demon Of The Fall - Opeth ~~
These guys are special. I don't think any other group of musicians can bring it all together quite like these guys do. If I'm not mistaken, I think they've only recently been able to become full-time musicians, after releasing 3 god-tier albums in the past 7 years. I'd love to know where they are 10 years from now. They put on one hell of a show too! If they're ever in your area, it would be a crime to miss them.
I saw them live in Brisbane when they were touring their first album and have been a devout supporter ever since! I believe they just finished up a tour of Europe with Ihsahn
@@adamh6094 the first time u heard them was live?? Omfg! I can't explain in words how bad i want to see them live. They are never around me. Ive heard it's some of the best and cleanest sounding live performances. And from what ive seen from their live videos. Its seems definite. I am lucky enough to own all their albums on Cd and vinyl tho 😀😊.
@sybreeder gn yes! I’m an Aussie and as they are too, they do a lot of local tours. Saw them supporting between the buried and me 👌🏻. There’s not many big cities in this country so most bands will do at least Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. But we’re devout to our music because of this situation. A lot of the gigs I go to you run into people who’ve travelled hundreds, sometimes thousands of kms to show their support. For example, I’m travelling 550km this March to see anthrax, slayer and behemoth haha.
@@adamh6094 thats fucking awesome. Musta been a crazy experience having that immaculate musicianship catch you off guard that night and blow You away right in front of your face.lmao I'm from Michigan in the u.s. so I'm a ways away.lol I might of seen the video of sydney you were at lol. I will def travel a ways to see them if they come around Michigan. And if i have the money at the time ill go further.lol This is America tho. It's not easy to have expendable money here to do alot. Lol
AWESOME DUDE! You are now one of us. Once you hop on the NeO train there is no getting off; I've seen them 5 times already and the 6th gig is in May. I knew you'd have that reaction. Now try Be' Lakor, also Australian, best song to try first would be Abeyance or The smoke of many fires. Peace out!
Glad you checked out this band. They are the kind of band you could just put on and relax too even though it’s heavy. I first heard of them through Vins channel. We were all blown away too. Check out more of their music in your free time.
Hi Alex, I hope after doing this reaction, you realize why people like me hound you to death about certain bands. It's because we know the bands, we know how amazing they are and we know based on what we've seen of you, that you'll love it. And we get a lot of joy from watching you enjoy the music we've recommended. Also, if you ever get a chance to see these guys live, don't miss it. They sound just as amazing in concert.
Painters in the Tempest is one several people have already mentioned and I agree with that one. But I also recommend Devour Me, Colossus and Of Petrichor Weaves Black Noise. Vin and Sori have done several NeO songs and went to see them in concert. Amazing band!
Finally you reacted to this masterpiece!!! You should also check some of their other songs, they are at least as mind blowing as this! Love your reaction in this, hilarious to see, because my reaction was exactly the same, the first time I heard them. And they play just as tight live btw!
Great reaction, I have also been asking Alex for so long to do this song and he finally did it. Where have you seen NeO? Saw them 2 times, once in Belgium (Graspop) and once in Holland (before Enslaved) Sounds soo close to the album versions.
@@tforal2 I saw them the first time when they were touring with their own album Citadel, and the 2nd time was when they were supporting Ihsahn on tour. Mind blowing concerts
So hyped I'll see them here in Belgium this summer ! This song feels like a classical masterpiece to me, so many nuances and details, every time I listen to it I feel like I'm discovering something new!
YEEES! FINALLY I CAN HAVE SOME PEACE 🙏 Edit: Awesome reaction Alex, NeO really does just overwhelm you, but in the best way possible. Only metal band that's brought me close to tears lol
Popularity contest says Opeth, who are great, but give a dark horse a chance bruh: Obscura - Diluvium Obituary - Chopped in Half Overkill - I Hate Onslaught - Welcome to Dying
That's quite a good selection of bands there, hopefully they will all get their turn eventually. I'd also ad Orphaned Land to the suggestions, their pretty interesting.
I did watch through the end :) haha. I do have the "Metal Friends" shirt and its a nice conversation starter (and it's pretty comfortable as well). Nice work!
Hi Alex, you never disappoint me with the latest video. I always love watching your latest videos. And I like the way you present to the public in a spontaneous way. Keep it up alex. My men bruhh!
OVERKILL for O Alex!!!!! Thanx for Nothin, Horrorscope, Bitter Pill, Infectious, anything off of the Horrorscope record would be great! Don’t skip over them my friend! They really should be part of the Big 4!!
I second that! They are one of the oldest thrash metal bands and release a new f***ing record every 2 years. Wings of War arrives in less than a month!
Hey Zeus one shouldn’t change their vocabulary just because they’re talking about a particular type of music. How about people speak the way they want and pretentious would-be snobs not insert themselves for the sake of attempting to make strangers on the internet think they’re smart? Cool.
@Hey Zeus lol I said it because he's a hip hop guy at heart so it makes more sense. Second many of them are actually from. My home town so I thought it was appropriate. Also thanks I didn't notice the mistake and I kind of feel ashamed by it. Fixed it up now😊
Well, I didn't know this band, and since you mentioned them , I decided to check them out and they are indeed a pretty damn good band! So thanks for giving me another band to listen to! I guess that now there are three of us suggesting this.
Omnium gatherum - be the Sky Ozzy osbourne - crazy train Our mirage - Lost Our mirage - the unknown Oh hiroshima - mirage One ok rock - never let this go
