Argh not looking forward to alien isolation I'm just too tired alien games I saw the gameplay from ign looks like crap pretty sure it's you running away from 1 aliens that's going to stalk your life and you need to escaping the ship or killing the alien ugh so tired the alien dosent even have the graphic and textures on him the alien haves no slime on his mouth when you hide in lockers the alien don't even hear beeping sounds from your tracker really?
shinji nator they said you would fight more enemy more than the one alien I bet alien isolation will not be another overhype screw up its even being developed by hole new team it at least won't be bad as this game right here its just going to be a open world survival horror and you don't need jumpscares make a game scary
Alien isolation was already in the works when this was released, hence he referred to it near the end. He just did a good job predicting what would make for a good game which the designers of the isolation were thankfully good at too.
I have seen developers (Not publishers, developers) talk about reviewers that they like watching, and Joe is one of the more common ones (Also stuff like Yahtzee from Zero Punctuation and TotalBiscuit, etc), so it's pretty plausible that they took his words as inspiration. I remember reading somewhere the developers of Isolation were really unhappy with what Colonial Marines did to the franchise.
Neakal Alien Isolation came only about 4 months away from 2 full years before this review, that's a VERY significant amount of time for a game development. Whole games have been developed in less time, so I definitely think it's POSSIBLE that he influenced. However, I'm not saying that's what really happened, just saying that I think it's very plausible.
Marines came out in February 12, 2013, Isolation October 7, 2014. Bigger gap than I thought so, yes (I could swear it was only a few months). But a AAA game that was already in the making, I'm not sure. But then I don't know too well about game development so you could be right. If so, kudos to them for actually listening to criticisms.
it's fun how 5 years later people found out that the messed up alien AI was because of a typo on a single line of code. A single letter messed up most of the AI code.
@@Bobman-ml5qf Then apply the fan overhaul mod. Its actually fun now! (but then again Im huge Colonial Marines fan so Im willing to close my eyes a bit here and there)
Sacatuki, The game is pretty good. Marine campaign is scary at some points! It has 3 campaigns which are Alien,Marine and Predator. People say that Alien campaign is worst one. I haven't tried the multiplayer. I did have some fun playing that game. Shitted my pants, when i heard Predator sound when i was Marine. and of course, the motion tracker.
Mr. Awesome AvP 3 was pretty cool!! Have you played the original AvP games? Man those games were creepy, atmospheric, and awesome!! If you havent I suggest you try them!! :D
I remember that I saw your review and decided to ignore you... and bought Aliens: Colonia Marines. Worst mistake in my life. I'm sorry Joe. Should have listened to you.
M. Volgrand Ah, who am I kidding? I did the same, yes I did. I saw this review and said, "oh it can't be that bad". Oh I was wrong. I returned it the next day I got it. No joke.
I remember seeing a kill scene where you shotgun a xenomorph in the face. UP CLOSE.... Any alien fan can tell you how stupid it is to do that... Literally goes against one of the major logics of the series...
You can shoot alien the way Hicks did it in the movie .. straight in the mouth so the acid goes away from you .. shooting him in the chin like in the game is like going without umbrella outside only its acid raining .. suicide ..
And I payed full price for the collector edition and all, was there at its release day to pick it up at the store. Man.......5 years ago since one my most greatests disappointements in gaming history. It still hurts.
@@thatsreallyamoon I'm ok. Lockdown stopped me from getting a job I really wanted but they said they'd have a spot for me for when it ended. Waiting for it to end. For so long.
AvP 2010 was great. I love how you say it is a 6/10 but it had pretty much everything you wanted in an alien game in the human campaign. Aliens were smart, they stalked you, climbed on walls, attacked in unison etc. The atmosphere was scary, marines were consantly dying around you. It was a million times more authentic of an Aliens experience than this shit.
@@carlosandresgomezreyes9846 bruh the campaign lasted like 3 hrs for the marines and that was the best part .. rest of it was fine but it aint some masterpiece
Rc Cooper www.theguardian.com/technology/2015/jul/15/gearbox-ceo-randy-pitchford-gamer-criticism He said something again calling fans "sadists". The people calling him out for his bullshit would not be sadism, it seems like he doesn't understand the word lol.
Damn. The more I watch Joe, the more I think he's psychic. He wanted a full-fledged game made out of the Assassin's Creed 3 naval missions. We got Assassin's Creed 4. And NOW he says he wants a game like Amnesia mixed with aliens. We now have Alien: Isolation coming out soon. Holy shit dude.
Funny story, I went to Gamestop and purchased Colonial Marines at full price for my brother. He was very excited for it and was looking forward to playing it. When I got home and checked RU-vid, I saw this video was uploaded! So, I click the video and as soon as Joe comes onscreen, I think, "Is Joe setting up for some kind of joke?" And then... "You fucked it up." At that moment, I asked myself, "What did we just waste 60 dollars on?"
@@frenchsoldier8485 You are dumb for trusting bethesda. They turned scummy when they introduced paid mods for skyrim. And u have a terrible taste for liking fallot series😂
Five years later, a spelling error was found to be responsible for the Xenomorph AI's failure in the game. It still doesn't explain the rest of the game's problems.
Overall bad writing, bad pacing choices, and a piss-poor ending. Oh yeah, the fact that Randy Pitchford praised it, and continues to defend it. Course, he wasn't known as much of an ass at the time; lol, it was THIS game that started that reputation. The fact that Jim Sterling continues to roast him at every opportunity doesn't help matters. I honestly don't blame the guy; he suffered a certain amount of professional disdain for the interview he did with Pitchford prior to the game's release.
That spelling error did mess up the AI, but apparently it was messed up beyond that. TemplarGFX fixed the typo, then went on to completely rework the AI, graphics, and sound to make a mediocre game actually decent. Can't fix the story but, damn, one guy fixing a game from a major studio is commendable.
DarkenedArc Not besides titles like The Fighter Within. I mean, Cawadoody isn't broken or anything, there's just nothing there. It's nothing but shooting, and shooting, and more shooting.
@Danny Morrissey Meh. Somehow THIS integration of Colonial Marines is Canon, as stated in Joe's review. And if you play to the certain when Winter finds a certain blindfolded guy, that's just cheap to be anyone but Hicks. In other words, this doesn't explain anything with his inclusion out of nowhere. Gearbox fck the whole game badly with weird storyline and clunky COD gamevibe that ain't fit. Throw in some chunks of Alien's references doesn't help either, as you have just pointed out.
If I remember correctly the Stasis Interrupted DLC shows that Hicks is pulled out of Cryo before being launched in the escape pod and is swapped with some generic random character you meet in the DLC and that’s who dies in Alien 3 not Hicks. But it’s all locked behind a PAID DLC
@@chaseyancey8824 It took me 2 seconds lol I never even bothered playing trough the campaign and I'm surprised it's Hicks and doesn't make sense at all lol.
Charlie Channel Maybe IGN outsourced to Seegson Corp., and have Working Joes doing their reviews. They're programmed to give anything that isn't Call of Duty a bad review. XD
Why isn't there a law making it illegal for gaming developers to lie like this about their game to their customers? Fucking sickening. Maybe if there was more work and actual care would go into the games but nope.
ConorChaos Because every dollar spent means more tax income for the mafia (government.) Advice - Stop buying new games unless that one-in-a-million game releases with no shady practices. Plenty of older games out there that are far superior to all the new cash grabs of this decade.
@@bowlining I purchased this (yes I'm a dick, but it was like five quid at Game) and thought I'd give it the benefit of the doubt. Then... I got to that particular part of the story; witnessed the hood being ripped off to reveal Hicks, and all I can remember was hearing the Windows 95 shutdown jingle reverberate through my mind before passing out riddled with cancer. I'm only alive to this day thanks to massive doses of retro gaming and MAME emulation...
To be fair, his (and Newt's) death in Alien 3 was a fucking cop-out and not emotional at all, just bizarre. I mean Ripley just happens to be the lucky sole survivor again? The pod is malfunctioning left and right, but hey Ripley you're ok, xenomorph incubation within you notwithstanding.
"Imagine like Amnesia mixed with Aliens. Holy shit that would be a game everyone would be talking about." And just like that Creative Assembly takes the burden to hopefully redeem the license and restore the Fans' faith.
CANNOT wait for Joe to review that and be EVEN MORE disappointed. It's shaping up to be a disaster already, more interviews with devs than gameplay in the trailers, lots of emphasis on Pre-Alpha in any gameplay that is shown, and worst of all Creative Assembly.
I'm pretty sure that when he is being derogatory then he censors it That way he's not just like "Fuck you and you" and offending people as much But when he just uses it regularly in a sentence, he doesn't feel the need to censor it
+Jared Lucus Not that it really matters, but I think you're right. In one video (can't remember which one) he starts a rant about a female character and it goes something like: "that stupid fucking.. [exploitives deleted]". And I don't blame Joe, just because you're ranting about a female character it doesn't mean that's how you feel about all females. Alas, that's what people instantly bitch about these days.
Lol at O'Neil, I think every gamer knows the frustration of AI and to just empty the clip into them, you know it wont do shit, but its the only recourse you got.
There should have been an asymmetrical mode like Evolve where one person plays as a xenomorph and everyone else hunts him down. When the xeno player starts out, he's somewhat weak, but the more marines he kills, the more health he gets and the faster and stronger he gets. That creates a dynamic where players have to stick close to survive and hunt the alien down before it gets too dangerous.
+TheGrayMysterious good idea, but then all players would camp near each other and there would be no point unless if they were spawned in different parts of the map and the map was decently sized.
The developers and studios that made Ride to Hell Retribution, Aliens Colonial Marines, and No Mans Sky should all band together and purposely make a game as shitty as possible almost like a parody. Include ridiculous microtransactions, bugs (make them funny though) boring as shit gameplay, just a combination of everything we hate that makes a game bad. I'd pay 10 bucks for that. Mainly just to (force) erm I mean see Angry Joe review it.Then again they would probably fuck it up and make a great game instead just to piss us off....
It's hilarious how Joe not only predicted Alien Isolation, but also Aliens: Fireteam Elite. He talks about wanting survival horror, and also how the co op is just tacked on here. He wishes that there were classes so you don't feel the exact same as your teammates. He got everything he wanted lmao
I'm playing through Aliens VS Predators The Game (2010) right now and I'm amazed at how much better that game is compared to this. The aliens have actual AI, are better animated and the atmosphere of the game when youre playing as the marine is so much scarier. It even looks better in certain areas. It baffles me as to how badly they fucked this up >.
KingKongCompilation no idea why joe said it was a 6/10. The multiplayer is one of the best multiplayer games I’ve ever played and I never even played it with my friends, just randoms.
KingKongCompilation the campaign had 3 different storylines which was cool. I didn’t feel like multiplayer was unbalanced. The modes like the infection one were amazingly fun. Species tdm, mixed species tdm, etc.
KingKongCompilation The Predators were OP but I feel like people diss the marine faction. They can be a force to be reckoned with. Teamplay is essential. I smeared the floor with them in a big Species TDM.
this brings back so many good memories, the days before the quarantine, life was so simple,no constant crying or stress, life was good. im still happy to see that joe still makes reviews,it brings a smile to my face..
Hipsters are 90% the reason why things that people discover to be trendy turn to shit when they touch it. They are cancer to trends. Anime, pool, Archery, darts, dancing, and now video games.
+Eurasian Writer I almost bought that game, almost XD. The true definition of hipster quality of product and services. Sean, can you see your character? Sean Murray: No, the only way you can see yourself is through another players vision. Can you run into other players? Sean Murray: No you can't. *my eyes roll*
One of the lines in code told the program to attach the alien to "teather" instead of "tether." With that fix the game as whole was, of course, still below expectations. However after modders removed that single letter, the alien AI got significantly better.
@@Xazamas there are more typos in the code, fixing a good chunk of the game and making it better by a good margin. there is two more "teather" in the code, and one capital A in "PecanGame", fucking even more the code. after that, suddenly the game becomes way better.
Modder jamesdickinson963 was able to fix the game’s terrible AI behavior by simply correcting the typo “teather” to “tether” from the .ini file. This misspelling in the .ini file significantly hampers the capacity of enemy AI because it prevents important AI parameters from being loaded. My Document\My Games\Aliens Colonial Marines\PecanGame\Config\PecanEngine.ini correct by changing teather to tether, use ctrl+f to find it. Also same thing in DefaultEngine.ini in Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Aliens Colonial Marines\PecanGame\Config

+NeoVinyl is right, and BL2 was shit too. Why can't Gearbox make a good game? Everything they've made 7th gen was shovelware. Hell, their only actually good games are the HL expansions (or one of them anyways) and the Halo PC port (and their original maps were shit)
lets look at their 7th gen games (that i can even remember) -borderlands (a shit FPS/RPG) -duke nukem forever (a shit FPS) -aliens colonial marines (a shit FPS that was falsely advertised) -borderlands 2 (a shit FPS/RPG) and now they've made battleborn, which is a shit hero fps that's basically overwatch but worse
1:53 you have a point joe, I really would love to see an alien FPS Survival Horror game where the Xenomorphs showed intelligence. I meant, they did it with the Xenomorph in Alien:Isolation!
As for the alien AI being so bad, how would you react if you learned that it was because a one letter typo in the code that wasn't even discovered until July of 2018?
"HELLO MY BABY HELLO MY HONEY" I'm fucking dying XD that just was too perfect. 16:30 Joe perfectly describes a good chunk of Alien Isolation years before the game is revealed.
Why is it when you get bit from a zombie and nothing happens to you, but everyone around you dies from a scratch from a zombie, and there is no carriers?
@@willgold3324 Well for example in Resident evil series its canon that the T- virus only had 90% lethality. The other 10% of the human population was naturally immune.
