So I think there's a way of solving Alpine's recent struggles, whilst also futureproofing the team, AND getting Andretti on the grid.
What do you think, this idea got legs?

Because it's a risk-free move for andretti Especially teams like Haas and williams. They stayed when the economy isn't good, when the top teams can just spend whatever they want. Also, they can just make new wind tunnel with software etc. (the thing WIlliams is asking for cost car exception). It's not going to happen. Still, Gene haas could just do a JV with Andretti/cadillac: 60 percent for Gene.

I've definitely read that Martin Brundle was told not to bother learning French when he drove for Ligier, just to stay out of the politics. Also pretty sure that when Alain Prost bought out Ligier, he expressly wished to avoid being labelled the 'all French F1 effort', then on one of the first press days the higher ups specifically went for that angle, it never worked. Historically if you have big corps or in this case, also a government meddling in decisions, it won't work. Renault big wigs need to be willing to be hands off.

As a die-hard Alpine fan (yeah, mock me all you want), I think this is a good idea to preserve the Frechness of the company, something which, despite not being French, has been one of my main vocal point of criticism for the team for quite some time. Also, all this could’ve been avoided if they didn’t suddenly replace Cyril with Rossi before he could even start his tenure. Cyril may have had some problems, but him, along with Budkowski made for a stable, reliable management, albeit controversial.

Alpine becoming the French Ferrari was the most misleading headline in the context of current events and results, which I found hilarious. Nevertheless, the French would definitely support the team if they had the prestige of Ferrari (at least closer to it) and competent drivers, like the ones they have right now. Imagine Monaco, or if France gets back on the calendar, the vibes! As for Andretti, I'm very skeptical, not so much of their apparent setbacks, but more because of the resistance and reluctance of other teams.

@@thawk6792 What if Aston decided that they want Andretti to be their indirect "junior" team, like the relationship between Ferrari and Sauber? Or maybe even an outright direct relationship like RB and Alpha Tauri. This would work for both parties: if Aston can vouch for Andretti to come in and give them a PU, then Andretti agrees (at least in the short term) to develop AMR juniors like Drugovich. Heck, I see Lawrence doing this so he can send Lance somewhere else while the 2nd Aston seat goes to someone actually competitive.

Yo Tommo, great video as always, but talking about an eventual selling, what do you think would happen to their academy? Yeah ok it’s probably the worst in terms of promotions (pure facts, they lost Lundgaard and Piastri, and promoted 0 drivers) because of the f1 team’s decisions, but they have the best drivers, and they also support a whole series (FRECA) how do you think they would manage that in case it gets sold? The only option would be shutting it down because I don’t think Andretti would be interested in keeping it going

At least when the current points system was introduced we had an influx of new teams which meant there were 24 drivers on the grid so you still had to finish in the top 45% (rough percentage estimate) to earn points which I think is better myself

McLaren used Renault engines from 2018 until the end of 2020... where they beat the Renault works team in 2 of those 3 seasons.

The French also need a better track that Paul Ricard. Imola and Monza both help fortify the Italian love of F1.

Tell you what though, if I had a choice to work in the factory in England or in France I know where I’d want to go

The only problem I see with this plan is the factory being obsolete once Andretti builds up operations in the US. He wants an American team with an American car built in America long term. The only way I see this going through is if they can leverage a deal with GM to use it as a joint base for Motorsport with GM taking using it for sports car and WEC and sharing the space with Andretti in the future

Last year I would have told you: Volkswagen already positions Audi and Porsche for F1, so Bugatti won't do. Today I will say: I don't know how their Croatian owner thinks of spending even more money on the name without having sold a single car.

Would Andretti joining in 2025 have an advantage of being able to just go straight down the Red Bull path with nothing old to adapt or other directions to consider? A difficulty Haas has is they’re reliant on how good Ferrari is and if Ferrari are having to change a lot then it’ll take them even longer to change.

It would still take years for alpine to build the facility in france so they couldn’t really sell Enstone until it’s finished if they still want to race. And on top of all that the budget cap and wind tunnel rules would likely cripple their ability to do that. I do like the concept though
@gandalf_thegrey
@gandalf_thegrey 10 месяцев назад
Easy workaround: Renault builts a huge ass facitily without any restrictions, perfectly in line with F1s needs and entirely modern and just rents out the building to the F1 team. Similar to what Ferrari and Haas were doing. Only downside is that it's makes the resell value of the F1 team very low since it has just personal, no facilities. You can't punish a subsidiary for what their mother company does, especially since said company isnt even working with FOM. If FOM tries to punish Alpine F1 for what Renault is doing with their spare cash they get sued the shit out of them, because you can't punish someone for rules you didn't write down or are "just meant that way" - they have to be actually written that way, otherwise not binding.

@callumlaird1195 10 месяцев назад
@@gandalf_thegrey I would think that is a great idea but didn’t F1 just outlaw Ferrari from using data from their WEC programme to influence their F1 programme?

The trouble with a French F1 team is the laws and tax's over there, Prost had this problem when he ran his team, the employees wages were equal to McLaran at the same time but only been a quarter of the size of McLaren. So having a bace in France wouldn't make sense for Renault, more money been spent for less.

Seen this on a few videos. The disrespect towards Alpine 0:01 s quite a disgrace. The Enstone people are fantastic and you can't just tell them to sell to Andretti. This is a team with deep history. I'd like to see Andretti as an 11th team or if they have to take away another team, then make it be AlphaTauri.
