In this video I continue to discuss the latest interview with Chris Watts in which he gives detailed descriptions of how he says he murdered his family. What clues can we find in what he says about his childhood? Where does he contradict himself? Was it really premeditated? I give my opinion.
I have a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, a post graduate diploma in Integrative Counselling and another in Counselling Psychology and I have done extensive research on narcissism and the effects of narcissistic abuse. How sad/ironic that he points out that Celeste’s allergic reaction luckily didn’t affect her throat or breathing, and then he chooses to smother her to death.

Honestly the way that I saw the kids treat him in some of the videos, and how Shannan encouraged it, and Chris tolerated it, made me feel quite uncomfortable... like it was disrespectful, like Chris never had boundaries with them. Like let's objectify and belittle daddy and make some light hearted play time out of it. Of course the little girls are innocent, they will always push boundaries and its super important for fathers to enforce them, but yeah I just felt so uncomfortable with some of the interactions and I don't think Chris will ever admit the hatred/resentment he actually felt deep down for his girls, especially if once they were born, it was even less and less attention and priority to him from Shannan, who then in turn encourged this kind of jester role out of Chris (which he allowed!). Im not hating on Shanann btw! She and the babies did not deserve what happened to them. Im just making observations because there is no way in hell that man could have only love for his girls and do what he did. He had super stacked up anger and resentment towards them 100% (even though he should have just been mad at himself for not having boundaries or proper self respect... and well, being a f-ing covert narcissist).

@MsRiverdee

What parent never sees their only grandchild? Well mine. I have not seen or spoken to my mother for 11 years and throughout my entire adulthood she followed the same pattern. She didn't speak to me for 3 years because my uncle (her brother) came to live with me so she cut me off as well. Now I am in my 60s and she is in her 80s and we will never see each other again. Our last breakup was so bitter and twisted because I discovered that she had deliberately lied to me and called her out on it. She resorted to screaming abuse at me and then put the phone down. There is much more to this story but when I had my son I was so determined that he would never grow up in such an atmosphere of fear and dread of physical abuse, not feel any love and become stunted psychologically because of it. I think I have been successful, he is about to turn 18 and go off to university. He has the ability to give and receive love, and to question his and others behaviours and understand appropriate responses. I have had absolutely no help from outside agencies and I have survived it all (including sexual abuse by my stepfather that I was too terrified to tell her about because I felt if she had to choose between us she would have chosen him and I was only 12 at the time). Yes its been a long hard road, but you can survive abuse and come out the other side a better, more loving, more understanding person, not because of it but in spite of it. Insight is the key.

The Watts family was the perfect storm. So terribly sad, but we can now see how damaging narcissistic abuse can be. This is the worst it can get. RIP Shannan, Bella, Celeste & Nico.
@treasuretrovel3816

And, Cindy Watts was the NPD matriarch who set the tragedy in motion with her son as a child. Poor little Chris did not have a chance. Cindy probably had a horrendous childhood at the hands of one or more of her parents. The grandmother who came to Chris's wedding was not one of the narcissists in the family tree. If that grandmother is Cindy's mom then I would say that it was Cindy's father who was the abuser.
@kaia_b
@kaia_b 5 лет назад
@@treasuretrovel3816 I was guessing the wedding grandmother was his Dad's mother.I could totally be wrong here but for some reason I imagine Cindy's mother was an intense NPD like herself because in all the extreme cases I've heard it is always the mother's relationship with the child that is most damaging. Cindy is so emotionally stunted that she behaves like an angry little girl regarding her son's choices, she doesn't respond at all like a parent of an adult. There is also the interview with Shanann's parents where they say when Cindy came to Colorado she stayed upstairs with the girls and would not even let them say hi to the children when they arrived home from work for the days she was there, I think they stated she said something like "well why am I here then", just so bizarre like she can't share time as a whole family and the children's affections were to be coveted.
@RubyConn
@RubyConn 5 лет назад
Treasure Trovel I have wondered too, and I think you are on to something here. I think a domineering matriarch probably comes from origins where the men are not good or reliable, and quite possibly the mother figure was powerless against that bad male influence.
@spanglelime

Kaia B. Damn I haven’t seen that interview... it sounds in character for a maternal narcissist though. I wish I could I express surprise or disbelief but from what I’ve seen and heard of Cindy, those sentiments are beyond me. Those poor babies.

@@treasuretrovel3816 The narcissist is almost always the woman/mother- from Cindy Watts, to Myka Stauffer, to virtually every abused serial killer, to many of our families. Society needs to recognize that toxic, selfish mothers are a cancer to modern families, and excusing their behavior is what causes these horrific tragedies. Chris was monster, but like Frankenstein, monsters are made, not born. I can't tell you the number of times I've spoken about both of my parents, and people/women immediately defend my mother, despite how horrible and manipulative she was.

Just thought about the fact that his family wasn't willing to accept his choices and show love by going to his wedding... Or Celestes birthday.... But they were willing to stand by him and show love for him through his murder trial. Awful, awful people. The lot of them.
@eurokay4755
@eurokay4755 2 месяца назад
It makes perfect sense if you think of it in terms of him demonstrating loyalty to them (and Cindy's superior pisition) by destroying all connection to Shan'ann. They were enthusiastically supportive of what he did but knew they couldn't openly express that. What they could say without seeming to be monsters was that they supported him unconditionally. The ironic, sick and very telling thing is that they absolutely couldn't unconditionally love and support him in his adult choice of spouse.

@Panda Power I'm very sick of seeing people pretending that Shanann was vindictive and controlling etc (all with no evidence or insight whatsoever) too. I guess it generates *so many clicks* and makes the person/or people, rather, pumping them out feel better about themselves. Another thing which aggravates me too is people just saying that the guy's "evil" - I mean, he may well turn out to be evil, IDK, I'm no theologian. I just agree that people aren't one-dimensional, no matter how vile they may be to others. I mean, his behaviour was ghastly and ultimately grotesque, obviously. Whether he just wanted "out" of his marriage or harboured fantasies of a new life altogether - I have no idea. Certainly, he behaved like a "family annihilator" with the glaring exception of a trigger leading to suicide. Perhaps time will tell, but, as has been pointed out, people like him (highly narcissistic murderers) tend to prefer to lie, even at the expense of a coherent narrative at trial & beyond. It is mind-boggling to most, I feel.

Excellent. I particularly loved how you described a narcissistic parent as being a bit like a cult leader. My late mother was a narcissist, and she was exactly like that. She told us how to feel and what to think. We weren't allowed to have any opinions that differed from hers, and she would not tolerate any criticism. She had no empathy for or sympathy toward her children. Like Cindy Watts, my mother did not attend my oldest brother's wedding because she got into a fight with his bride-to-be. Needless to say, none of her children or her husband went to the wedding either. My mother was unapologetic about this to the end of her life, and I don't think my brother has ever gotten over it. Of the 7 children she bore, I was the most sensitive and I think the most scarred by her behavior. I'm 58 years old, and to this DAY I don't really know who I am, what my core beliefs and personality really are. That's because I was never allowed to develop them as a child.

Then looked around me and unfortunately realized I was surrounded by those with many traits on the narc scale. But this one particular is just unbelievable sparking at every narc point and I would not put the possibility of physically harming others past her. Also she seemed to have had Munchausen by proxy and after that person passed now just Munchausen. It's ALWAYS something where her needs are dire and immediate, above all others, and manages to surround herself with loving, generous people always lending a hand. If she must she hires them but EVERYONE is a pawn or tool to serve her needs in some way. It's really disgusting. Every move, every word, is manipulation and self serving disguised as something else. Even when you discover this about someone, it's hard to believe and it can take time to unhitch yourself.

it hurts to have a realization like this one. i looked around me one day and realized the same thing. i was surrounded by sociopaths and narcs. my father being one. they do not know how to actually *love* and that hurts so much when you give them everything you have and they give nothing back but pain. the *only* way to get them to stop hurting you is to move them out of your life. get away from them and go completely silent and let them wonder where the hell you are, but never give them another chance to hurt you. kick them to the curb and now that you know the signs of these evil ppl, go out and meet new friends that are sincere and real. no one is worth the amount of pain a narcissist will put you through. my 'favorite' thing they do is called *gaslighting* where they make you think you're absolutely nuts and dreaming up things when you are actually just beginning to see their truth...kickin 'em to the curb!

@katherine harvey Good point, I think Shanann must have had many experiences of the dark side of Chris Watts in the 8 years she was with him. She knew he wore a false face to the world. But because she loved him and was loyal, she never unmasked him. I sense there was an unspoken agreement between them, that she protected the 'Mr Nice Guy' image he presented to the world. Had he left her for another woman and a divorce got underway, that agreement would have been null and void, Shanann's gloves would have come off, and he would have plummeted in the estimation of many people. He knew that, he feared it, and he wasn't going to allow it! Shanann and the children literally died to save his face. On the day Shanann and the children went 'missing', one of her friends was irritated to receive a text reply from Chris along the lines of "I don't know where they are... I don't want you to think badly of me". The friend responded "This isn't about you Chris, I'm worried about Shanann and the girls". He is such an extreme narcissist, he couldn''t even fake concern about his family when it was in his own interests to do so! A person of such extreme emotional deficiencies as CW would inevitably reveal that to someone they lived with for 8 years.

Such a silent predator the covert narc . So many inconsistencies. Also he talked about talking Nk off a ledge yet NK described how even when they disagreed it was "always in a calm way" . The Watts family dysfuntion/toxicity is so typical of the narc family dynamic. Rejection, punishment, devaluing ,emotional abandonmment , humiliation,shame ....the list goes on and on . That's why i said his parents own a certain amount of responsibility for Shananns' and the babies murders. They may not have done it physically but they sure as hell played a big part in their demise. Thats not to take any responsibility away from him because he made the choice to do what he did however his pathology as well as the family pathology is evident even before the murders. Deadly!
@paulafigueroa1573
@paulafigueroa1573 5 лет назад
Toto G I agree with you about the Watts being in some twisted way responsible for the murders. There’s something I think: they wanted Shannan and the girls to disappear from their lives, perhaps they loudly wished for them to be death or to die. The fact that Chris would take it literally and kill them, perhaps in the bottom of their hearts was the tribute they most appreciate from their son. All this may be conscious or may be not, but the behavior of the family as sick as it may look, they are not only showing a pathology. I bet that one thing is to be a pathological narcissist and being evil inside. The Watts to me are pure evil. Thank for your insight.

NK was manipulating him. She lied to him and claimed she had gotten a couple of dates from eharmony ( she claims they never showed). She blew a gasket when he had to leave her place on July 4th after he paniced when shananne had called him ten times and he didn’t answer. When he finally spoke with shananne and she was pissed and told him to take a picture and prove he was home. Chris rushes home and NK got Seriously pissed. NK lied In her interviews just as much as Chris did. Ironically he didn’t see that he was allowing NK to Control the relationship just like Shananne did. Just like his mother did. NK was right about one thing. “ it could have been her” If shananne and Chris divorced and he and NK were together her playing games like she did with the eharmony lie, it could have gotten her killed. I wish waking up narcs to themselves was that easy but it isn't. They'll be like "What shame is that lady talking about? I don't feel that. My childhood was perfect (or others' fault), she's nuts." Even when explained to them very very clearly, it will hit their instinctive reflexive defenses or they immediately dissociate themselves and assume you are describing someone else (not themselves). My ex could listen to a full hour biblical church sermon on all commandments related to speaking kindly (not abusively) and IMMEDIATELY afterward continue abusing or talking about someone else who needed that sermon (not him). Not one word sunk in for himself to grow from. Not one word made him want to conform his own life to the commandments that he CLAIMED to live by. It is bizzare watching things just deflect off their defense system.

Another interesting aspect of this case is the two ways that Chris won over Shanann. First, he was Mr. Fix-it handyman for her. Second, he performed the role of being helpful and understanding in her illness, to the extent he was with her when she was taking a laxative treatment before a colonoscopy! Even Shanann and Nicole K said that they never had a boyfriend who would help fix things. It is so sad in this day and age that men willing to be helpful in that mannwr are so rare, that a malignant narcissist can win women over just by fixing the woman's car and household items! In addition, most men (especially early in a relationship) will not even fake being helpful and understanding about the woman's illness. At the beginning of a relationship, the man is thinking of the woman as this goddess that doesn't have normal "unsexy" bodily functions, such as pooping or passing gas, etc. The very fact that Chris remained with her during the pre-colonoscopy laxative treatment and the colonoscopy itself after only 2 months of dating is what sealed the deal with Shanann! That made up for all of the shortcomings of Chris that were probably apparent to Shanann already, such as not being an interesting conversationalist not being overly warm and expressive with emotions, being socially awkward, immaturity and having a narcissist mother from hell. After the marriage, the two ways that Shanann felt loved by Chris would have continued on those two factors: when he was being helpful in practical ways around the house and and with helping with the children and when he was being helpful with her in her illnesses. When Chris was not doing either one of those two things, Shanann probably didn't feel loved by Chris and understandably so.

I would love to get your thoughts about WHY his mom hated Shanaan so much. She was not a drug addict, a gold digger, or anything that awful for her to feel that way. And I don’t want the simplistic answer that it was another ploy to control her son. To not attend her son’s wedding, to block him on social media, and to not attend a grandchild’s birthday party suggests she is an extremely self centered passive-aggressive right fighter. And the fact that she convinced her weak husband and daughter to follow her lead is very telling. I cannot fathom how essentially evil to the core this woman is.

Great vid again! I do believe it was premeditated. There's too much evidence pointing in that direction: The credit card payment for the dinner with NK was him saying "screw it. I'm not hiding anymore." Arranging to be at Cervi 319 alone, early in the morning. And just the overall timing. He had 5 weeks alone, with no chance of being caught. Now it was late summer, school was about to start, he would have to be the attentive dad and husband and he knew he wasn't savvy enough to pull that off while sneaking around. And, as you say, he valued his "nice guy" reputation. He didn't want to lose that if he were caught and Shan'ann spread the word. In his mind this perfect world he had the whole summer was coming to an end, and he couldn't handle it. After the murders when NK texted him and said she didn't want to see him again until his family was found he said, "that's it we're through?", I felt he wanted to say, "But I did this for you! For us!" In her first media interviews when Cindy went on her Shan'ann bashing campaign she described her feeling when CW told her that he and Shan'aan were getting a separation, she said "he's seen the light!" So yes, in the brief hours after the murders where CW thought he was getting away with it he felt that getting rid of the family would make him free for NK, and it would make his parents happy. He was seeking the approval of those two parties.
@glamdolly30

Great post! I had wondered what the last communication was between NK and CW. If you believe as I do that she did not know of his plans to kill his wife and children, it is hard to fathom how he thought the future would unfold. Did he honestly assume his family could just vanish off the face of the earth and NK wouldn't suspect him of involvement? That he could shrug and go on with his life, proposing to her, maybe moving her into the marital home - and eventually, collecting three life insurance pay outs with no pressure from Shanann's loved ones, the police and news reporters??? His mind is warped beyond the comprehension of any non narcissist!

I was surprised when I heard he moved out at age 18 - did CW say that? Because it is well documented he was living in his parents' basement when he first messaged Shanann through Facebook, and persuaded her to date him. He moved out of his parents' house aged 25 to move into the house Shanann owned hundreds of miles away. I suspect he fears a 'Mommy's boy' label, and wants people to think he was independent when young. I absolutely love listening to you. This case is so horrific and somehow I stumbled across your channel just recently. I only learned about narcissistic personality disorder after googling ' abusive mom'. After my dad's funeral 10 years ago. So I've read up a lot and watched stuff on RU-vid. However, I absolutely love the way that you put it together, it makes so much sense. The way you have picked out tiny fragments of this interview with Chris Watts which was 5 hours long to illustrate the point is just genius!

While so many other RU-vid personalities have exploited the Chris Watts murders simply to build their viewership, you are using this story to provide useful information so that people can apply the lessons learned to genuinely improve their lives. Thanks for doing so. Cheers.

This is unrelated to this case. But do you want to do a video about why covert narcissists are never able to keep a job? A narc I know keeps losing his job because of underperformance although at interviews he appeared so confident and capable.

I'd guess selfishness. If they dont want to show up, they dont. They dont see it as letting other people down because they dont think of other people. Selfish.

Mine is the opposite. He’s the perfect employee, doing countless hours of overtime and neglected me and the children for over 20 years. I’m sure it helps that he’s the foreman and therefore has complete control over everything that’s going on at work.

You explain things so well, and I often find myself in awe of what you're describing and how I have seen others behave that way!

This is the best analyst of Chris Watts and this horrific case that I’ve seen online and I’ve watched almost all of them. I think what your take on the case and your ability to break it down into language and explanations we can then piece together makes the most sense. You are gifted and extremely knowledgeable with identifying human behaviour and personality disorders . You can read between the lines in a way that is perfectly executed. I agree fully with absolutely everything you say and all the significant things you pull apart is just brilliant. I think Chris Watts mother is completely narcissistic and highly toxic and she is the fuel that lead to fire and Chris is very much a malignant narcissist as a result of growing up with a toxic mother . Unfortunately his innocent wife and children paid the ultimate price . I pray for them and their family often ..xoxo Thank you for the great videos and your brilliant ability to explain things properly!!

These guys are doing a fantastic job of interviewing him, I believe. They know Chris's defense mechanisms. He wants to be percieved well, which will alter the honesty of his answers. The interviewers ask a question, sense the lie, then ask again in a jovial, laid-back accepting way, their responses making him comfortable to give an honest answer.

Thank you so much for a well through evaluation of his confessions. I appreciate your insight and balance. So many of us are struggling with the heinousness of this crime, your evaluation really helps to add color without drama.
