In this video I discuss why women write to murderers who are in jail, trolling and why Chris Watts has a fan club.
I have a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, a post graduate diploma in Integrative Counselling and another in Counselling Psychology and I have done extensive research on narcissism and the effects of narcissistic abuse. I work as a coach specifically with people who have experienced narcissistic abuse. Let me know in the comments section below what video you would like me to make about an aspect of narcissism that interests you and please subscribe to my channel!

The explanation of the nature of "Trolls" and their need for narcissistic supply I found to be very helpful. What I take from that it is to not respond at all.

These days with the internet, it's too easy to throw opinions and views around without fear of repercussions. Some people dont care if what they say has a detrimental effect on someone else Look at the bigger picture going on here. how many news sites let you comment on a news story these days ? a lot less than 3 years ago. the way things are going, commenting on youtube will be banned at some point so that no one gets offended. the days of having a good balanced discussion / argument are dying.

Good video. Chris even said in his interview that it was a long simmering problem. when the police asked him why he was angry with Shanann, he said it was because his was alienated from his parents. the problem that he disregarded was that HIS parents didn't go to their wedding, didn't go to one of the kids birthday party and that his parents blocked Shanann on Facebook. Shanann didn't stop him going to see his parents but the kids from visiting them. but he sees the issue as Shanann and not his parents.... says it all really
@songbirdsinging1878

'and he also takes no responsibility. what if he had confronted his parents and told them that they crossed an unforgivable boundary and that they, he and shan, needed time to decide what kind of relationship they and the girls could have with them going forward. i had a mother in law like Cindy. when she viciously attacked me and sent a scathing letter to my mother to tell her i was a slut and that my mom was a terrible mother, my husband put his mother out of our lives and didn't speak to her for months until his dad came over to talk to us. even then my husband didn't go to see her for awhile. chris still never used the phrase "i killed them". he says "what happened " as if something happened to him! his mother does the same thing. your point is spot on excellent!!!!
@BillyNoMates1974

@@songbirdsinging1878 Shanann wanted him to grow some balls (but not at home). The problem is, Chris is not like that. His past shows that he was raised by a controlling mum which he exchanged for a controlling wife (that's not a problem per see - many blokes do this. doesn't mean these types of men turn into murders). But his upbringing is that of being the best at a narrow focused task and being liked for it. Best at being a car mechanic, best at being friends (helping people out), best at being a husband (looking after the kids and house work) ....... everything else outside of that falls by the wayside. Very narcissistic tendencies. Then a new feed of narcissistic pleasure comes along and what he has forged and worked for no longer matters. Now that he is in prison he will very likely be the best prisoner going. see my point here. A lot of people miss a small but important point. When Chris and shanann met, she was at her lowest point in life and he was a strong character but introverted. Over time, Shanann got stronger and grew as a person, developed a business, had kids (unlikely with Lupus) and got her health issues under control. Chris only got physically stronger but not emotionally stronger. Chris would have wanted for her to stay weak and dependant upon him. This presented a problem for him. I can't help but think their marriage should have ended a while ago as they were drifting in different directions

@@BillyNoMates1974 i agree. he found her in a weakened state, therefore didn't realize he'd actually found a srtong woman. he did the same with his mistress. if he had been with her as a husband, he would have discovered he'd done it again. the whole group is dysfunctional. both families and prob. nk's family is a mess too.

@@songbirdsinging1878 The only credit I would give the Watts family is that they were concerned about the expensive life style (big house, brand new car, expensive furniture etc). other than than that, controlling. The Rzuecks seemed more balanced. Good call from them not to push for the death penalty. Shanann's dad comes across as quite an empathic individual. Frank Juniour seems to have had some problems in the past. NK is a big unknown, not much factual information published.

BillyNoMates1974, everything you said is totally spot on. Such a good and interesting insight about his ability to only be narrowly focused. Makes total sense. People like him, who are so completely alienated from who they are at the core of their being, are terrifying. If he had a little bit of therapy, he may have realized (or at least gotten a hint of) the damage his controlling, narcissistic mother did to him and how it 100% informed who he is as a person. All that rage, all his rage, was directed at the wrong person.

I can't imagine how anyone would see Chris Watts as manly for what he did. He drugged and murdered a chronically ill, pregnant woman who loved and trusted him and murdered his two tiny children. Nothing is more cowardly and monstrous. And it's mind boggling how his admirers don't seem to realize that they'd probably end up exactly like Shanann if they ever got into a relationship with him.

Thank you for touching on the covert narcissist and their partner's "bossiness". I spent 8 years living out this scenario with a narcissistic sociopath and it was extremely frustrating because people on the outside couldn't understand. He could, and did, pull the wool over everyone's eyes, including police, judges, family, friends... He wore the public mask of caring partner and father exhausting himself to care for us, but behind closed doors he created dynamics that placed me in a position of having to micromanage everything because he would either intentionally cause problems so I would have to take the reigns, and/or he didn't care if it all went to hell, he'd just walk out the door to someplace those concerns or responsibilities (expectations) weren't present and leave me to figure it all out on my own. It was like being in a relationship with a rebellious, selfish, bullying teenager. He was always working against me instead of the betterment of our relationship and family. No one could ever see that and I became so consumed trying to hold it all together... In his eyes I became the nag, the bitch, the lunatic. What was really happening is I was developing Complex PTSD from the instability, neglect, trauma, inconsistencies, and fear tactics he used to control me. I refer to it as being held psychologically hostage. I have a little over two years no contact now and several years of ongoing therapy yet it is still daily work to heal and keep moving forward. Your videos put everything that is so difficult to explain into context that is easily understood. You are such a gift. 💜 Would you consider making a video on CPTSD as a result of narcissistic abuse?

Someone came right out and told me that I seemed “too strong” to be a victim of emotional abuse. People just don’t get it. It can happen to anyone even a strong woman. These people have a life long practice of manipulation so that when they come into our lives and turn it upside down we never see it coming! I was always taught not to tolerate physical abuse but I didn’t know what hit me when I got involved with a narc. I didn’t even know what a narc was until I finally LEFT the relationship. Most people will never understand. I’m glad you left & getting stronger. God Bless 💜

Cara Freeman Bingo! And yes, the covert ones are really something to reckon with, because they have you play out their issues and their anger, while acting as if it is you when it is them. They are so sneaky. They will push and push you until you lash out while they are being SO quietly aggressive and under the radar. There is a palpable atmosphere when I find myself in the presence of a covert Narc. The passive aggressive person with that low lying hostility that most people don't notice but I can detect. Omg, the suffering they inflict and they are ruinous to your health both mentally & physically. I know from experience to not take on what they are attempting to falsely project onto me. I do end up resenting that this is their M.O. though, because I find it completely predatorial which is at best creepy & at worst literally dangerous. Your message comes as I just dealt with a covert passive aggressive Narc for the last 2 days who I have not seen for over a year & a half. I am glad the person departed from my property today and I feel more at ease and am starting to feel more at peace again.

One of the most troubling aspects of this case is the trolls. I Thank You for taking the time to talk about this because the Rzceks, in particular Shanann's brother Frankie Jr., are still dealing with the trolls online. @ladytea697
@ladytea697 5 лет назад
I can attest to the fact that narcissists and abusers will never accept blame for their behavior. If you tell them “you made me feel bad when you did this” they will turn it around on you, and ultimately leave you blaming yourself for feeling bad about their abuse. My ex used to tell me I was too sensitive, that I should know by now how he is and his personality, that I should know that he didn’t mean any harm. That basically I was the problem. They will never look at themselves, they are incapable of any kind of self reflection or taking responsibility for anything at all. So the fact that Shanann was looking at her self and blaming herself for the state of the marriage lets me know that she was in no way a narcissist or abuser. She was tortured by CW in her final weeks. I can keep going through this video and finding so many golden nuggets of wisdom 💜

Yes when people say or do mean things I have a hard time wanting to confront them. I just feel they will automatically turn it around and say wow so sensitive. Or say something worse than the original mean comment OR tell you how you deserved it. I feel sometimes walking away is best
@ladytea697
@ladytea697 5 лет назад
Melissa Goldstein Definitely. Many times I just ignored him when he verbally abused me. But narcs need some sort of reaction, whether good or bad, because that’s how they get their narc supply. If you ignore them, they just keep on pushing you until they get a reaction. And their provocation is 💯 intentional. They WANT to hurt you and cause pain. Its hard to ignore when someone says things to intentionally hurt you to your core. It was never ending. Ultimately I did walk away completely from that person because he turned me into a shell of my former self. I was empty inside, broken, beat down, humiliated, shamed, no more self esteem from all the abuse. I had to rebuild myself from nothing after leaving. But leaving saved my life.
@missygoldstein12
@missygoldstein12 5 лет назад
I was always extremely sensitive (or so I'm told) but heres the thing. Those who accused me of this (I purposely used the word accused because it was always said negatively) were those who tended to say things that were hurtful. So the question was AM I really so sensitive OR were they just unkind
@eurokay4755
@eurokay4755 4 года назад
@@missygoldstein12 The answer is: Your sensitivity isn't the issue at all. They're cruel, and they expect you to be o.k. with that. When they accuse you of being too sensitive, their only objective is to change the subject from what they did that hurt your feelings. It's very effective, too, because they know you're much more comfortable examining your own conduct rather than theirs. And look what's happened: here you are trying to figure out if you're to blame for their bad conduct! You're being trolled. Next time, try acknowledging their attempt to deflect by saying, "Nevertheless, what you did was hurtful." They won't apologize, but they'll get the message that you aren't falling for their misdirection tactics, either. If you find you have to use the "nevertheless" method more than once or twice with a person over 8 years old, you should give serious thought to fully accepting they are this way, they will never change, and then decide whether it's worthwhile remaining in the relationship. My mother and older brother are the "light" version of Cindy and Chris Watts. He blames anybody/everybody else for every problem he has, which includes being unemployed, divorced with no friends and a giant anti-government chip on his shoulder. Mom applauds his every move, no matter how predictably disastrous it is. She also, I finally figured out, loves to stir the pot by asking me what I think about something without telling me it's related to him in some way. She goes and reports to him whatever I said, as though I was criticizing him directly. He then texts, calls or emails me with aggressive, crazy-sounding attacks from out of nowhere. I finally got into therapy after trying multiple times to explain why this dynamic (Mom's pot-stirring is just a tiny, minor part of it) was hurtful to me. They both told me I was actually the problem because I was too sensitive, should have known he was "like that", and other tactics. Basically, once you get over believing you can fix it by explaining your perspective to them, doing joint therapy with them, trying harder to walk on eggshells around the., etc, you will see that this really is actually how they are, it's permanent, and all you can do is decide what to do with that knowledge. Whatever you do will not change or affect them one bit, but it can help immensely with how their conduct affects you. You can change how you respond to them. You can dump the relationship entirely or establish boundaries that you will abide by. They'll laugh at and ridicule and malign your boundaries (that was my Thanksgiving experience, btw), but the boundaries aren't for them; they're for you. So, for example, when Mom tries to get me to mention anything about my personal thoughts, opinions, beliefs experiences, etc., I re-direct her: "I hadn't thought about (controversial Christmas travel plan floated by narc brother). Did we have turkey or ham for Christmas last year?" Now, instead of participating in her critique of my brother's ideas for celebrating Christmas, we're talking about recipes, and she'll have nothing from me to report to him. This is just how I've chosen to stay in some form of relationship with my family once I realized it wasn't at all the mutually caring, supportive relationship I had been telling myself it was. I don't mean to make this sound like a simple, painless process - I grieved the loss of my fantasized family for a long time. Instead of cutting off all contact, I now limit our interactions to superficial, impersonal conversations. I don't expect to be included in a lot of their activities, like family vacations, but Mom was already "forgetting" to mention those to me, anyway, unless there was some reason they needed me there. I don't expose any personal joys, worries, disappointments, accomplishments, etc to them for the same reason churches have nurseries for toddlers: they don't understand, appreciate or care about the service, they hardly notice you've left them there because they're focusing on their own entertainment, and nobody is harmed in the slightest by leaving them to their own games. Toddlers in the church nursery is the mental image I carry in my head when dealing with them, and it helps me a lot. Best of luck to you.

When he got out of prison her very Christian family took him in and gave him a home and a job in the fathers business. He wanted their daughter......when she spurned him as he was too obsessive, he raped and killed her. There was a case in NZ too where a man had been in prison multiple times for rape and other violence, and a nun who had been visiting him in prison took him in when he was released as she believed he had changed and become a Christian.......he repaid her by raping and beating her to death. This is why I do not believe in Watts religious conversion. They all become Christians in prison, it's a ploy for sympathy and might be useful one day to get them parole.

Former flying monkey here, that is definitely true. Though I never spread gossip about anyone or helped her attack people, I was always making excuses for her and fighting her battles for her. I have my own issues with depression and codependency that brought me to this role. The best way to get out of it is to take care of your mental health. I really wish there was like a basic psychology/mental health course added to the curriculum in public schools. Obviously this is a long shot, but if there was a way to make that happen, I think things would be better for the public in general. We have to take biology, chemistry and all these other sciences, but rarely if ever is psychology taught to students. Maybe more kids would feel comfortable getting help if they were just taught some basic mental hygiene skills.

You either buy the mask or you don’t is THE defining line and is an excellent point to use as the starting base to the most mind shredding question. You went there and it still blows my mind that people can still hold doubt even after this man admits what he has done. Maybe though the only reason they can question it is because they can not understand why he would lie through a supposed confession. He clearly is not honest with himself and he has zero ability to be forthcoming in any event which is why he took the most cowardice of actions a human can possibly take. The worst part though is the fact that if this guy can get fan mail then there really is never justice, but only a shadow of an illusion of justice in each of our minds.

The issue with the trolls had really been getting under my skin. The fact that she had lupus and all of these other physical struggles while holding it all down just never cease to amaze me. Thank you for putting these things into perspective. Part of the reason for our focus on the Watts case is that it’s an incredibly rare type of incident, and I think it’s important to keep that in mind. Narcissistic abuse is quite common, but family annihilation is not. And sometimes people murder their spouse when that spouse has an affair, but it’s very rare to murder when one is having an affair oneself.

I'm old enough to have experienced a lot of my life PRIOR to the advent of social media, and I have come to recognize the power this medium has over people. A person can hide behind a false name and literally rip into other people they have never even met, without having to face any consequences. This makes the coward feel assertive and brave, but they are really hiding behind an anonymous mask, saying things to people that they would never dream of saying face-to-face. I have pretty much quit following Facebook because I find this phenomena very disturbing. (Same with the President's "tweets.")

Another brilliant insight into this dynamic of narcissist and victim. I never thought it would or even could happen to me and it did!! I still look back and wonder how the hell.... but when I take my emotions out of it and look at the facts of what was going on in my life at the time, how he presented himself to me and and now really seeing in hindsight the signs and red flags... it makes sense. We are all only human. We all want to feel safe and loved and this can cloud us in our choices. I don't blame myself and it is simply a set of perfect circumstances plus intuition, education in human behaviour and knowing your self well enough to trust your boundaries, what you deserve, self respect, listening and following all of this. Being a victim of a crime does not erase mistakes made or negative attributes of the victim. That should never be because he will always be extremely dangerous. He is ok if he does not 'snap'. But how would we know if he will not snap again. I'd feel much safer if he had his own reason for killing his family. He did not! Having a girlfriend is not good enough. He is just a horror.
